Final Fantasy V Advance

I don't believe we have a thread on this just yet.

Anyone get it yet, first impressions? I've been busy with work & school but I will get this soon.

I really hope there is no battle lag or battle glitches. I should go buy this today. Final Fantasy V in my opinion is the most underrated of the series.

Battle lag and battle glitches? Do you mean loading times? Because, unless you can play this online in an active network, then I don't think such things exist..... Not on a DS.

Forsety Nov 8, 2006 12:31 PM

No, FFIV advanced had lag and "double turns" glitches in battles. Well, the American/Japanese versions did anyway. Surprisingly, they really did fix it for the European version.

Anyway, As far as I can tell, FFV does not have any of these problems. The worst thing I've noticed so far is that if you skip through menus too quickly the sound might pop. Everything else seems to be just as it should be.

Borg1982 Nov 8, 2006 01:23 PM

What do you mean by double turns?

Yeah i hated the lag though... FF1 GBA was a perfect remake, at least.

Definitely. I hated that.
I didn't even realize V was out already.

Xaekid Nov 8, 2006 02:17 PM

Gonna buy it next week along with III. Hopefully.

Lost_solitude Nov 8, 2006 02:20 PM

meh VI is better worth waiting for.

Borg1982 Nov 8, 2006 05:33 PM

So what is the double turn glitch then?

ALSO: Does anyone have the Europe release ROM for this? I'd love to load up a quest and see how much better it is.

Forsety Nov 8, 2006 05:58 PM

Sometimes after getting a turn, the same character will immediately get another turn. It's uh, awkward.

Just go to the site Dgemu and search for the game, you can get the European version there. It isn't as though it's tremendously better, just that it's the experience I assume they were shooting for to begin with. Aka, less glitchy. They also fixed Yangs hp growth so it doesn't just stop around 6000. =P

I've played the first hour of FFV Advance. Like the original, it's a lot of fun and the translation is the best I've seen so far. Finally, an FF where I look forward to talking to every townsperson.

Like FFIV Advance, the difficulty has been dumbed down (at least in the beginning) and the characters gain levels like crazy. All the glitches in FFIV Advance are non-existant.

TheKnightOfNee Nov 9, 2006 01:18 AM

I played the Playstation/Final Fantasy Anthologies version of FF5, and I must say, it has been my favorite in the series since then. I 'm glad to hear those dumb FF4 Advance glitches are gone. And jb1234, what do you mean by the difficulty being dumbed down? Which version is this compared to?

That's disappointing. I would have liked to experience the original difficulty again. It took me quite a while to gain levels in FFV.

Andrew Evenstar Nov 9, 2006 02:00 AM

Yeah what the heck. why is it less difficult? FFV is by far the hardest and most challenging of the series!

That's good they fixed glitches though.

I went to target today, they didn't have it in stock :/

I'm comparing it to the original SNES release. Basically, I gained five levels in ten minutes, beat the first boss with utterly no problems and I haven't come close to being defeated in any of the battles I've had so far (just past the ship graveyard).

That's not the FFV I remember.

However, just to make sure that nostalgia isn't clouding my judgement, I'm going to stick in the Anthology version and see if it's any different.

Conan-the-3rd Nov 9, 2006 03:14 AM

If my memory serves right, the levels wern't all that important, it was the job levels that served more of a issue

jb1234 Nov 9, 2006 03:25 AM

Huh. Color me wrong. The PSX version of FFV (which should be identical to the SNES) version is quite easy in the beginning as well. Of course, remembering FFV, it gets much harder midway through. I was never able to beat it.

Forsety Nov 9, 2006 12:24 PM

FFV is always easy at the start. I never bother to start leveling at all until I get some job classes, and it's never difficult to manage.

Soldier Nov 9, 2006 04:07 PM

I need confirmation on this.

And this.

Spoiler:
Quote:

Gilgamesh: "Enough expository banter!
Now we fight like men! And ladies!
And ladies who dress like men!
For Gilgamesh...it is morphing time!"

I was saving to buy this at a later time, but this is almost enough to make me purchase it right now.

jb1234 Nov 9, 2006 04:38 PM

I can't confirm either of those two but I honestly wouldn't be surprised. The translation so far is filled with witty dialog and cultural references.

CuteChocobo Nov 10, 2006 09:07 AM

As jb1234 said, I was suprised at this translation of FFV. I find the dialogues more 'bad-assed' and 'cool'... I would believe that the quote by Soldier actually exists. Haven't got that far yet, but let see how I go~ I will post it if I find them ^ ^

Just a question for those who had played PSX version and this GBA version. Is there any dialogue difference? Is the original this witty?

^-^ Nov 10, 2006 09:32 AM

Well, going from SOLDIER's comment, yeah. Some of the dialogue is different, but not vastly different.

And this.

Well, I remember there being some write up for FFIII DS' fighter class that has a simmialr text.
4chan was haveing a gafaww about it.

benuneko Nov 12, 2006 06:31 PM

I'm probably going to go out and grab V and III this week. Hooray! =]

Spatula Nov 12, 2006 07:57 PM

Ya know, I had no intention of getting this FFV anytime soon, but thanks to "Mr Mucknugget the snack eating by Moogles", he pointed out a misprint in a Walmart ad, showing the game was for $16.88. Hell yes. It turns out they were sold out. So needless to say, I got it the flyers and got Best Buy to match the price. Win. I like how this is a great way to get more FF action whilst not near my PS2. When's III coming out? Hope for another misprint!

^__^ Cheap Bastard.

Mucknuggle Nov 12, 2006 08:00 PM

I think that FFIII comes out this month. I saw some GameFAQs losers orgasming over it while I was there this morning. I too hope for WalMart to continue with the misprints (or any store really).
