Good news folks...

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...top_world_news

Quote:
The company, creator of the Super Mario character, is counting on the release of the Wii console to win market share in home gaming from Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. The player won't cost more than 25,000 yen, said Yoshihiro Mori, Nintendo's senior managing director, at a news conference in Osaka. The company expects to ship 6 million Wii consoles this fiscal year, and about 17 million software games for the device.
By the way 25,000yen is roughly $225 US, $295 AUS, and $174 EURO.

I am happy cause now I'm sure I will own a Wii this holiday season. And I think we are all happy!!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah, just heard about that. 174 € converted from the japanese price could mean about 199 €/199 USD on launch. Like a lot of people already predicted.
Note how Mori implied that the price could be even lower.
I would be very willing to pay 199

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Wouldn't we all!!!!

I am so excited for this news. This puts the cherry on top. We obviously know it will be out in Japan, Australia, & the Americas by Christmas (Cassamassina - Perrin interview), so this just finishes Nintendo's brilliance and brings the Wii to be the hottest item this coming holiday season.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yoshihiro Mori said Wii will cost no more than 25.000 Yen/222 USD/174 € in Japan. He also stated it wouldn't cost more than 250 USD in the US. The European price is still undetermined but it should cost around 200 €.

Infos were posted on GameFront.

I can't tell you how glad I am about this news. Nintendo will make Wii affordable for any consumer. I just hope they'll have the success I wish them to.

He did state that it wouldn't be more than 25000 yen. We have to assume he means in Japan, but this should also translate to the US (please, please, please). BTW, the article I linked said nothing of a specific US price comment. Either way, I just hope they don't get cocky and try to sell this thing for $249 US. That is a big difference from $199. More in the head than in reality. $199 or less can potentially be an impulse buy in America, but 249 isn't for most.

This news is going to hit the game community like a nuke.

As said, just copied it from GameFront. Here's the original message:

"Nintendo: 'Wii soll höchstens Yen 25.000 (Euro 174) kosten'

Babelfished:
Nintendo: ' Wii is to cost at the most Yen 25,000 (euro 174) ' 25.05.06 - The Famitsu communicates that Wii will cost at the most Yen 25,000 (euro 174/USD 222) in Japan. The confirmed Yoshihiro Mori, NINT DOS senior Managing Director, on a press conference, on which the year's result was submitted. Wii would therefore cost about 1/3 as much as the PlayStation3, which is offered to 62,790 (euro 437/USD 558) in Japan as 20 GB model for Yen. The Xbox 360 - in Japan only as Premium model available - costs at present Yen 39,795 (euro 353/USD 277) and thus approx.. 40 per cent more than Wii. Already the last three hardware generations of Nintendo came for Yen 25,000 into Japan on the market: Super Famicom (super NES), Nintendo 64 and Gamecube. In the USA Wii is not to cost no more than USD 250 (euro 195/Yen 27,968) according to data of Nintendo. Where the price will lie in Europe, Nintendo did not say yet: If one proceeds from the quotations of Japan and the USA, a price would be possible around the euro 200.

My bet is on 199.

There is really no reason why they´d sell it for 249 as the Yen price shows how cheap they can sell it and still make a profit (that´s what I assume as the hardware doesn´t seem to be very expensive) of it. Also all their other consoles were 199 on launch date as well - why should they interrupt this "chain" with the console that is meant to be bought by new and non-gaming costumers? I´d be surprised if it´ll cost more than 199 €/USD.

Yeah especially cause the 360 will have some sort of a price-cut around that time to compete with Sony (and Nintendo even). We know this, they know this, everyone knows this.

I hope that the price is at $199US as well, but if you don't know yet, I don't think a single console gets a profit from the system itself, but from the games most of the time. Consoles need to sell for much lower prices to have people buy them. After that initial loss, they make it all back in their games.

Unfortunately I'd have to completely disagree. There's not mention of one PC title, all SUPERB game: Supreme Commander, Neverwinter Nights 2, UT2K7, BioShock, and Spore.

EDIT: I hope this poll was only in regards to consoles.

We're talking Famitsu here, Lukage. The Japanese are interested in four things for the PC: Pangya Golf, MMORPGs, dating sims, and hentai games (the last two boil down to the same thing most of the time). And most likely it was just a poll for just consoles and handhelds.

Japanese retailer PC-Success listed Nintendo's Wii for just 18000 Yen (160 USD/125 €). They have removed the price but it's still viewable in some price search engines.
Source: GameFront.de

Please save your "OMG!!!!!!!1 he believe a online shopp!!" for someone else. I know these are not reliable sources when it comes to prices and release dates but I think we're all dying for some news on Wii.

Remember that Time Magazine article on Wii? Here are some of the mag's readers' replies. And the first two are idiotic assholes.

Quote:
“A Game for All Ages” [May 15] reported that Nintendo hopes its new game controller, which senses a player’s hand movements, will appeal to girls and grandparents. As a female gamer who has been playing video games since the days of Pac-Man, I am always amused by game companies that feel the need to target female gamers. Not one of the games aimed at girls has appealed to me. You know what I want in a game? How about realistic female characters instead of bouncy, skinny, half-naked ones? I’ve given up playing female characters in any game because of how they look. Does anyone really believe female warriors ran around wearing little more than a metal brassiere? If Nintendo is serious about wanting to reach the female audience, it should treat us with some respect. We like questing too!

MICHELLE HEDSTROM Santa Clara, Calif.
What a fucking dumbass whore. Yes a lot of videogames out there starring female leads have them wearing next to nothing, but why is she harping at Nintendo over this? As a company Nintendo's products tend to be as offensive as anything wholesome! When the hell did Daisy, Samus, Peach, Titania, etc. frolick around in buttfloss and nipple-pasties? I can understand if she was upset with Sony or Microsoft over this but Nintendo? And this is coming from a self professed "gamer"! I feel sorry for girl-gamers. Bitches like her must give them a terrible rep. Oh and I just love how she managed to stereotype videogames just like the ones made by other companies managed to stereotype her as a woman. Oh the sheer irony!

Quote:
Nintendo believes that nongamers do not play video games because they are “really hard” and the “learning curve is steep.” As a nongamer, I have another take: we do not play video games because we prefer fresh air and sunshine, exercise, good books and conventional card and board games that allow us to interact with other humans.

SUSAN MYCROFT Asheville, N.C.
Wow. That's not condescending at all! You hear that Nintendo? If you wanna lure in none-gamers into gaming, then stop creating amazing, innovative, and inclusive new gaming hardware and focus on providing us with none-gaming activities that are so much higher and mightier than videogames! =/

Some people's stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Bitchfest

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I thought that conventional card and board games were pretty much the same thing as any videogame, except for the fact that you necessarily need other people to play them. They even cost the same. What's that bitch complaining about, then? She hasn't heard of multiplayer games?

OMG that old granny from the second letter needs to try before she replies... You interact with other humans with multiplayer (as Luxo said) and Wii's multiplayer games seem to be able to emphasise that. What a luddite. My girlfriend's grandma's view on videogames changed when I showed her Brain Training... Must we make games like that just to show the world what games are all about (not that there's anything wrong with that, but is this the only way to get it through to their heads that games aren't anti-social anymore)?

As for the girl issue, head over to (http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/ge...ust-boys.html).

But at least Time is giving attention to Wii. Every other printed media that I know off brushed it off like a fly in their "E3 specials".

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Not sure if anyones seen this http://www.thewiire.com/news/340/1/A...of_the_Iceberg
It's an interview with a guy from ATI saying what we've seen thus far for the Wii is essentially the tip of the graphical icberg. I was actually hoping for something llike this, but with Nintendo's refusal to release specs, I wonder exactly what we're in for.

Yeah I saw this a while back. I honestly don't even mind if what we saw at E3 was pretty much the peak of Wii's graphical power. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a bit of a graphics-whore, but I really think Wii's visuals look more than adequate! The detail on Mario's denim overalls, for example, is great!

Anyway, here's another little tidbit mic/no mic?

I must say, with the wiimote doing what it does, having a speaker, and now a rumored mic, I'm very concerned with it's battery life. I believe I read somewhere that it's not gonna be rechargable anymore (at least not at first). Seems like that thing will go through batteries like crazy!

If it's just several times more powerful than the Gamecube(like some people claim), then shoot, count me in. After seeing Resident Evil 4, and Metriod Prime 2, that's pretty damn good in my opinion.

No rechargable batteries? That's a bit of a downer.

Hell, Gamecube's graphics are good enough already, I really don't give a damn if they went better (though I'd like it). No Rechargable batteries? Damn. It's like a shot in the foot there. Hmm...It'll probably last a while anyways....like how long a single AA battery lasts in my notebook optical mouse. It's been going for like 4 months now.

According to this article: http://www.thewiire.com/news/342/1/Pokemon_set_for_Wii

Nintendo, besides revealing Pokemon Battle Revolution (Which looks phenomenal!) for the Wii, also detailed some of the connectivity features of the DS and Wii. Among them being using the DS as a touch screen controller for the Wii. Nintendo has also said there are other secerets concerning connectivity between the two. Do you think its possible the DS could transport its screens via the Wii to a television? Enabling us to play DS games on a television.
