Native speaker or not, devilmaycry, I'm going going to do you the favor of banning you from this thread. If there's anything I hate more, it's those who spread misinformation because of ignorance. Get the fuck out.

Yeah, and amusingly devilmaycry will be banned from such a useless thread if I close it for a new one. I'll either rename this thread later or make a new one when I've got my computer set up and everything. Moving home from college is a bitch.

Some people I've talked to are just having doubts about the Wii. Since it's "weaker" the Wiimote can't be used to its fullest. Lack of physics, detail, and so on.

It's a shame, people are such graphic whores.

Good God! I leave this thread for like half a day and some idiot comes in and attempts to shit all over it. Acer, I had seriously forgotten how unpleasant Wii related threads were before you decided to bitch-slap morons outta here.

Anyway, first Sega, and now some other analyst predicts that Wii will be $200.

Yeah, Sega and many other analysts believe it's going to be $200. Keep the tradition, of course.

Plus, check this out. Bluetooth for the Wiimote.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's pretty awsome! I can only dream of the different accessories they'll come up with using blue-tooth. Oh and here's a very, very well written hands on Wii demo impressions by penny-arcade.

On another random note, I cannot wait to see how the wiimote will work with future music games.

I'd love to play Beatmania with the Wiimote. That'd be awesome.

There's the learning curve of handling a mouse, and isn't smaller (using a mouse on a FPS is wicked but then again I'm not good at FPS no matter what mouse/gamepad I use) but when you play such slow paced games as solitaire it doesn't really matter, so you can say that these people's problem is lack of reflexes
I should’ve made my point clearer. Using a mouse is second nature for simple games because in order to operate a PC, you have to be able to use a mouse. Most FPS I’m aware of require simultaneous use of mouse AND keyboard -this is totally different from using the mouse by itself. I suspect most of us who’d made the switch from playing the original Doom with Ctrl for fire, Alt for strafe and the arrow keys for movement would’ve found the switch to WASD and mouse somewhat daunting at first. As for Solitaire being slow paced… you should see how some people play the timed games or try it yourself.

So, can anybody explain to me what the use of Bluetooth entails? People seem quite excited, and all I understand is that it is a means of wireless communication.

What are the exciting implications besides the obvious?

Sigh...

Wii kicks serious arse and the potential of the console is mind-boggling, but the FRICKING media (well, the newspapers I've been reading) doesn't seem to take note or even look at what Nintendo have been doing.

[HERALD SUN - The Australian (Melbourne) Tabloid Newspaper]
-Around 15 paragraphs. 6 to X360, 5 to PS3, 2 to Wii.
To add to the injury, some "professional" had a say in Nintendo's plan, "Although the Wii will have a lot of features, the PS3 will still lead because it simply looks better in terms of graphics." What kind of F**ker is that? Hasn't she seen the DS?

[THE AGE - The Australian (Melbourne) Spreadsheet Newspaper]
-Around 38 paragraphs. 12 to X360, 12 to PS3, 11 to Wii
A bit better, a bit more unbiased, but have a look at the "Best of E3"!! Assassin's Creed (PS3), Viva (Pinata), Crackdown (360) and Crysis (PC). They included Mario Galaxy and Spore, two games in which I would agree with but most of it were games to do with extreme violence. WTH!!!

[MX - The Australian (Melbourne) Free Tabloid Newspaper]
-Around 12 paragraphs. 5 to X360, 5 to PS3, 2 to Wii
The title is "Nintendo, Wii Love It"... But what's this? Only two paragraphs and a photo of Shiggy playing Steven Spielberg in Wii Sports? Bleh. And then the rest of it talks about the upcoming games on X360 and PS3, almost all of which are violent or "Mature".

Why so much bias? There were as much things to talk about in the Nintendo section as there were in Sony's and Microsoft's.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

My estimate of the percentage of violent/mature games at this year's E3 is about 85-90%. And most of the rest are handheld titles. So it's not too surprising that the games they are talking about are violent. At this point, it's simply a fact that a lot of the games coming out right now are violent.

I'm also not too surprised newspapers aren't exactly up to date on these things, they are hardly the place to look for objective and relevant reporting in general, and especially when it comes to the games industry.

I certainly still believe that the Wii will appeal both to the hardcore gamer AND the untapped market of moms and girlfriends. I reckon it'll just take time for the media to catch up.

My favorite anti-Nintendo bias was this wonderful editorial at IGN.
Quote:
In the end, this is just another facet of the universal truth that when a console becomes a mass marketshare leader, all manner of games will appear on it. And although the Wii almost definitely will not become the lead platform in the US, Sony's recent price announcements and Xbox's continued impotence have placed Nintendo into an excellent position in Japan. Could the land of the rising yen be the ultimate developer's playground for new ideas and classic titles? If Nintendo sells enough Wii, we'll get both.
What reason or proof is there to back up this statement? Only that they haven't won the past two generations? There is more proof that it will do extremely well than that it won't. The last time Nintendo had a Zelda and Mario game inside the launch window was the NES and SNES and we all know that those led there generations. Honestly, I don't understand why people put so much faith in "Playstation". Like it's the god of game consoles and therefore all else is sub-par.

There is only two reasons why PS3 is even worth thinking about over Wii. Let me say this loud and clear: WITHOUT MGS4 or FFXIII, PS3 WOULD DIE. Two games to sell an entire system generation. That is BS. Sure you could argue that Nintendo does the same thing with Zelda-Mario, but consider this; NINTENDO OWNS THEIR WINNING FRANCHISES. I just wish that SqEnix and Konami would go multi-platform with these titles; then may the best console/first-party titles win.

PlayStation is not about games. For non-gamers it's all about the name: How often have you experienced this situation? Someone visits you and says "Oh, you have a PlayStation" and you have to respond "It's not a PlayStation, it's a Nintendo".
And that's the reason why every single console and handheld of Sony (assuming the PS3 won't ruin them) will have the word "PlayStation" in its name. I just wonder when it's going to sound stupid... "PlayStation 6"? "PlayStation 7"?

That's the funny part.

This industry turns on a dime. I mean 10 years ago (approximately), Nintendo was king headed into a new gaming generation. 10 years. Not like 30 or 40 years ago. 10. But now, all the world turns on Playstation? And Nintendo is barely on alot of people's radar.

What's most interesting to me is the comments such as that IGN editorial that write off Wii, because "the playstation name is huge". That is BS in this market. Gamers are fickle. They go where the games are. Nintendo has ALOT more games & better games in the launch window, should have little to no shortage issues, better price, reliable hardware, totally unique exclusive gameplay... I mean honestly if the Wii was Sony's idea and it was label PS3, the media would be going "ZOMG Sony PS3 is the best thing to ever come to planet earth!!!%!&!&%!&%"

I was speaking idiomatically.

Actually, a huge load of people here in México call "Nintendo" any console they see, be it a Gameboy, a PSX or an XBOX.

I guess it's more of a regional thing.

Yep, it's pretty obvious why though, Nintendo just doesn't have the marketing and presence here, while Sony and MS could get the front page just by opening their pockets. That's how the media works though. Sony could get shit in a paper bag advertised by almost every news outlet, Nintendo Australia can only afford to give away a free GBA SP in K-Zone.

All Nintendo need to do is penetrate the European markets. They're pretty good in Japan and America, but over here people are all about Xbox360

(Magazine interview)
"Screw the PS3 cause xbox360 is cool".
"Why?".
"It's just cool."
"What about Nintendo's new console?"
"Who?"

Oh, the 'Connect' section of Sydney's Daily Telegraph did a pretty good write-up about the Wii. But they've always been pretty fair with all three consoles. Channel 7 news still wins for mainstream E3 coverage though.

"E3 IS THAT TIME OF YEAR WHEN NEW EXCITING COMPUTER VIDEO GAMES APPEAR"
"SONY AND MICROSOFT HAVE NEW GAMING SYSTEMS, SONY SHOCKED EVERYONE WITH ITS INNOVATIVE VIRTUAL REALITY PLAYSTATION 3 CONTROLLER"
"HALO 3 IS SET TO TAKE THE WORLD BY STORM WHEN IT LAUNCHES NEXT MONTH"
"NINTENDO HAS A NEW MARIO GAME"

*Footage of Wii Sports*

"HERE IS A GAME FROM AN AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPER FOR PC"

*Awful unplayable mess on screen for about five minutes*

"AND THAT ABOUT WRAPS UP WHAT'S BEEN GOING DOWN THIS YEAR"

This is a perfect example of what Nintendo is doing wrong right now.

Magazines and newspapers are fine, whatever. But right now Nintendo needs to be airing commercials for the Wii nonstop on any and all TV channels. Even if they're just teaser commercials for now, the key thing is they need to be getting their image out right now, before everyone hears about the PS3 controller and gets conned into thinking Nintendo stole something from Sony. If that happens, Nintendo's chances will be seriously hurt.

That just bothers me, that newspapers would state that Sony had the motion controller idea first. It's not true, did they do any fact checking? or did they get paid off.

In Canada, we won't see any evidence of video games in the press until all the consoles are within about two weeks of release. I remember when Xbox and Gamecube came about, it was the first time i'd ever seen anything about the PS2 in any Winnipeg newspaper. They were running a comparison article, stating everything there was to each of the three consoles. It was surprisingly unbiased. I hope they don't muck up this time around, and shit all over nintendo.

A couple of days back The Advertiser (SA) had a single paragraph mentioning E3 and PS3's motion controller trumping Nintendo's offering (but not going so far as to imply Sony was the one being innovative). However, an article in the online Australian IT section was much more positive, entitled "Wii Wins Hearts at E3".

This is what really pisses me off. Nintendo has to quickly get this fact out to the people....the fact that this controller was their idea. I really do hate Sony right now for doing this, just leeching off of everybody else in the damn business. While I'm not exactly an Xbox fan, I do see the resemblence of the PS3 online capability to the XBox's and I do see Sony basically ripping off the idea and "making it better" with a lower cost. Seriously, what the hell? Then it follows suit with a half-assed tilt sensor? What are they thinking? The people who buy Sony's PS3 are not going to be interested in tilt sensors and furthermore, any developer who's going to implement tilt sensor in their game will just go to Nintendo because of a better system of motion sensoring and a cheaper dev kit.

On the other hand, Nintendo's target audience could care less for the Playstation 3 and whatever it offers. Nintendo's true audience would not care if PS3 did all this shit since it's set WAY out of any casual gamer/non-gamer's price range. Seriously, now that Sony's using "Tilt sensors" on their controllers, it's even harder to justify the $499/$599. PS3 may as well equal a Wii with better graphics and a shittier version of the Wii's motion sensor, and from what I see, the $300 is a longways away from being justified for simply better graphics that nobody is going to notice unless they're staring at point blank from the TV screen.

I dunno, I just don't know what to think anymore. I will personally be picking up a Wii at launch, but I doubt I'll ever pick up a PS3....not unless it drops below $300.

5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, Nintendo)
6. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, Nintendo)
7. Final Fantasy III (NDS, Square Enix)
8. Monster Hunter 3 (PS3, Capcom)

"What hardware are you most looking forward to?"

Wii - 68,8 %
