to be honest, i sincerely feel that the namco should make a space based air sim game. although I don't think they should continue using the Ace combat..

because i see most of us, including myself seem to restrict ace combat to the period between the 1900s till maybe slightly some time into the future. this somewhat limits the creative oppurtunities for development, what more after about 5 sequels?

LOL.

The black screen thing is just a tad annoying.

I agree with megalith (*gasp* ?) but i can see where your coming from. Namco needs to pull something new and exciting but still fun and enjoyable out of the bag soon or else AC will get stale. More awesome super weapons? maybe.

Serious question here:

Does anybody have the models of either the X-02 or the Falken? Does anybody know where I might be able to get one? I can't read any Japanese, so finding a Japanese site that sells the model is pretty useless for me. eBay had nothing. I need help here!

Mobius, go here. HLJ is pretty reliable, and has decent shipping rates. You mind as well buy a few other things to make the shipping cost worth it. I've used them to get quite a few macross kits, and this puppy.

Note that the image posted is not the final product but a prototype of the model. The 01 Bugstomper, sitting with my other toys, is a beautiful thing to behold.

I hope you're good with plastic model kits, though. Just because it's from Bandai, a very respectible sci-fi toy/model company, doesn't mean it's neccessarily for little kids. I'd recommend you, at the very least, get proper paints and such from your local hobby shop. I trust you know how to build these kits with some level of competence. :3

Lovely, isn't it~

As rad as the Falken is, do you have a link for the X-02, Spatula? That site you linked does not have it.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Skills, is the X-02 the second picture that Mobius posted? Sorry, didn't unlock these planes (shame on this ex-pilot of the Silber sq) yet.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Spatula = new lord and savior.

$36 plus shipping? Ouch. I see that it comes molded in that color. I'd rather have black, but that color is nice too, plus there no chance of me fudging the paint job. I'm not too good with model building, but there's a model shop in town that may be able to help me build it. I wonder if the control surfaces on the nose can move freely or if they have to be glued in one position...

You never unlocked the X-02 Spatula? Just have an AC04 or AC5 save file on your memory card and start a new game in Zero. It's a sweet aircraft. It looks a bit more probable than the Falken, though the switch blade wings are a bit unrealistic. Is there a reliable site to purchase the X-02 Wyvern at? I'd like to have the Wyvern also, but I might have to buy 2 if it can only be assembled in one of its 2 modes (wings in with tail down or wings fully extended and tail up). That means saving up $$$ for it. Damn, come to think of it I might have to buy 2 Falkens also if you can only build it with concealed laser or open laser. I need to find someone that actually owns these!

EDIT: Damn, I see it's only 1/100 scale. I was looking for 1/48 scale or 1/72 scale at the least. $40+ for something that small?

I was speaking idiomatically.

It's jacked up because of the name behind it and the license to acquire it from Namco. You rarely see actual military fighter model kits in 1/100 for that extreme high price. Even 1/72 is quite small already. I honestly like the VF-19 c/o Macross Plus more than the X-02 and the wings seem much more proportional to the fuselage than compared to the X-02.

I don't intend to turn this into an animu-macpla thread, but just for reference:

Of course the probability of this thing actually flying in fighter mode is far more remote than the X-02. The sweeped wings don't look like they would create enough lift. Oh the beauty of science fiction.

Yeah, that's nice but I was never able to get into Macross and stuff like that for some reason (odd too since I love jet fighters and I love Transformers and I love giant robots. Well, not all giant robots, just the realistic ones. Maybe something about the unrealism or impracticality of transforming jets turned me off). I'd really like to have the X-02 and Falken in 1/48. How big is 1/100 anyway? Would that Falken even be more than 6 inches long?

Honestly, that's what I don't quite like about Macross either. If the Zentradi forces didn't exist, then the whole need of changing into the Gerwalk and Battroid mode would just be gimmicky. I personally find the whole transformation process a bit too much on the fantasy side, which somewhat veers and detracts from the military likeness of the fighter mode.

Find the dimensions (specifically the length) of the Falken then just divide it by 100. If its say, 10 meters long in real life, then it'd be 0.10 meters as per 1/100 scale --> 10 cm model kit.

Scale is interpreted as the first number, 1, being the unit of the model kit, and the second number is the real dimension counterpart in ratio to the first number.

I can't find measurements for the Falken, but the X-02 is 21.84 meters long. That would be 8.5 inches in 1/100 scale. The Falken a bit longer than the X-02 if I'm not mistaken. 8.5 inches is pretty small. It's livable, but is it really $40+ livable? Damn, if only I got payed more.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

1/100 isn't all that bad, Mobius: I've never bought into Bandai's EX line because I suck at painting, but I've got two dozen Master Grade Gundam kits behind me on two shelves of a bookcase right now. They're about eight inches tall, and the level of detail is beautiful...I've gotta talk to HLJ or Hobby Search (http://1999.co.jp/eng, less text but much better package and manual photography) next week about picking up a Gyan.

Also, the X-02 exists but it was a limited-release kit by Hasegawa so it's very hard to find. Pretty much all you'll come across nowadays are the pictures.

That coin's bigger than a quarter right? I've decided that I'd buy even if it is small, its just too damn sexy plus I don't have any shelf space on my desk. But how do I found out how much shipping will cost at that 1999 site? I can't figure it out. If it's less than $10 then I'll buy it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

First things first, Mobius, I don't think you can get an empty box shipped to you from Asia for $10 lately; fuel's just that expensive. Truth be told, I mainly use Hobby Search's photos to examine items in detail (apparently the FALKEN's nose does open up), then buy from HLJ if they're new or a Stateside supplier if they've been out for a while...you'll probably pay a $5 premium for a MG kit from California, say, but save $10 on shipping. For just the plane from anywhere in Japan, though, you'll probably pay the kit's price plus $20 for shipping and whatever percentage your credit card tacks on for paying in foreign currency. This is where buying multiple items comes in: Bandai just announced a MG kit of the Gundam F91 for July, so I'll probably wait and buy one along with that Gyan I mentioned so they ship together.

There's also one on eBay for about $40 shipped (http://cgi.ebay.com/BANDAI-EX-MODEL-...QQcmdZViewItem), but it's from Hong Kong...sometimes they'll send you a bootleg kit so you have to be careful, but the photo on the lot looks legit.

Drats. This is getting expensive. I have a VISA debit card, I don't know how it works with foreign currencies. Truth be told I've never actually purchased anything from the internet before. I'm considering the Hong Kong eBay one, that seems to be the cheapest if it's authentic. I don't know whether or not to trust it though:
Quote:
This item is new, OFFICAL BANDAI ITEM, NOT CHINESE FAKE BANDAI ITEM
That seems a bit suspicious to me, but the user has a ton of positive comments.

It's 780 yen for SAL shipping (surface air lift, about 2 weeks) from HLJ. HLJ is pretty trust worthy, as I've bought pretty pricey things such as the Aliens Dropship. 1600 yen (about 14$ USD) for EMS meaning you'll get it in about 5 business days, plus time to clear customs.
Honestly, I'd recommend you'd pick up other items as tajisdurmin said, as if you order bulk, then your shipping cost can go down as much as 40 percent. But since this is your first time, mind as well play it safe.

And Mobius, it's 24 cm long. Its says right on the box that it's 24 m in "real life", so just take out a ruler and measure 24 cm. Oh wait, ur dose americans!

I don't think the eBay guy is that much of a risk, really: tons of feedback including numerous sales of MG kits, bootlegs of which are fairly easy to spot if you've built even one. That said, HLJ's a sure thing, especially if you can find something else there you want...which shouldn't be that hard, given all the stuff they sell.

No matter what you do, though, go for airmail. I work in shipping and you'd be amazed what can happen to a crate of books that goes surface, let alone a plastic model kit.

That's too small of a model for that much money. :/

By the way guys, we got our hands on that interview finally:

We didn't ask too many questions, so it wouldn't burden the guy. Still cool though.

HLJ packs their goods pretty decently with plastic foamies or the air bags sorta deal. Also, EMS has tracking, while SAL you've just got to pray to sweet Jesus that it's safe.

Like I've said, since Bandai got a license from Namco to do this, they've gotta jack the price a bit for royalties and what have you. Same with my 1/72 Macross kits from Hasegawa.
