This game is good news, regardless if I don't really dig the aesthetic. And it is doing new things, it's making good on the promise of quality.
If you love Fable 1 for the exact same reasons as you stated above, I'm gonna have to call bullshit

Fair enough, but without the astrophysicist dreaming up the idea of space, we wouldn't have the astronauts to go up there. Couple with the fact that astronauts typically have to be in physical condition,(come on, xbox =/= PS3 or xbox 360), some people just CAN'T go into space, but they can help with the idea by starting it along.

Call it just bitterness on my end, and I do apologize for it. Yeah, I'm a fanboy of breakdown, and I can't believe that I stood out so much so long ago for you to remember :P. I just would HATE for people to call Mirror Edge a 'first of it's kind' when all it did is improve on an idea.

The purpose would have been defeated like you after the last woman you hit on!
Purpose would have been defeated, but the game would have been better and easier to control.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The metaphor assumes you know that a lot of astronauts are also astrophysicists. Whereas one is just but a half of the whole and will thus only be a dreamer in comparison to the Astronaut who both dreams and then accomplishes. I know you mean well, Grail.

See, nothing ever came of Breakdown. Namco abandoned the idea and game for greener pastures, so the statement of it being wasted potential is more than true. I've played my fair share of first person games, and we've already seen games like Portal do interesting things with the perspective. Fallout 3 is out and has somehow refined an idea Bethesda's been doing countless times. Don't hunt for "innovation" or "fresh air", because you're never gonna find it that way.

And I could do the sliding kick into uppercut in that game easy. Fighting multiple opponents was something I hated because until you had that charged jump kick, it was a tedious pain in the ass because of the T'Lan. That second T'Langen injection was a pretty awesome moment. I can think of several horrible ones to counter act it, though.

The only part of the game I hated was after you jumped from the roof and had to deal with soldiers and that damn helicopter. That was the most frustrating part of the game for me.

But, back to Mirror's Edge...if this game has as many epic moments in it as Breakdown did, and the storyline isn't halfway stupid, then I do hope they are able to go places with it. Truth is, I'd rather see MORE games like Breakdown and Mirror's edge than, let's say, Half-life. Sure, realistic physics is cool and all, but it doesn't make a lick of difference to me if I don't FEEL like I am the character. To me half-life fails on this, but Mirror's Edge accomplishes this from just the footage alone. I just wanted a Breakdown 2 >_< lol

When I first played the demo, I kinda hated it. It seemed really hard to control and I wasn't impressed with the gameplay. But as I played further on, it got pretty good, and by the end I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Enough so that I played it again and ended up enjoying it even more.

I don't know what it is. The platforming seems a bit rough, and the combat isn't that great, but I still love the game. Even with it's flaws, the game is interesting enough to make me want to play. The game does come out on my birthday, so maybe it will make a good present to myself.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I finally got around to downloading the Mirror's Edge demo a few days ago, and I'm still a little torn on it. There's no denying that it manages to keep up a fun, fast pace and at least the demo level was really well designed. Still, the combat felt incredibly awkward the few times I had to use it and there were one or two times when it was difficult to figure out where it wanted me to go exactly. The next red thing was hard to spot, especially the helicopter rail at the end of the level. Automatically grabbing onto pipes after a jump was pretty sketchy too, and seemed to fail a good deal of the time.

I admit it though; the main reason I'm not keen on the game is motion sickness. I doubt I could play for much longer than the half hour I spent on the demo, and that's on a good night. I wasn't sick yet, but I wasn't feeling very good either. It's a real shame since there were some parts of the demo that I loved like escaping that building, bashing through doors.

I just finished the PS3 version, it's over very quickly because you keep playing and wanting more.

It's a mix of wonderful and frustrating. The movement and jumping rarely get to feel liberating because most levels have strict restrictions (cramped space, pursuers, time limits), you will die many, many times, over and over and over and over. But when you get things right (a perfect string of disarmings, a perfect flow from A to B), it's quite unlike anything. The moments when you're given space to breathe are the most memorable, but granted there are numerous exhilarating chase sequences and setpieces that will leave you gasping for breath afterwards.

It's just that the controls can feel very unintuitive at all the wrong times and many segments just feel unfair. Still, I got through the game without having to shoot a single enemy, so that's proven possible. It'll take a lot of patience and luck, though.

The story and cutscenes are pretty hokum sadly. I didn't feel the animu style storytelling sequences fit the rest of the game that well and the eventual plot has you rolling your eyes, but Faith is a likeable character and I felt compelled to honor her dislike of guns by not using them in the game. So that's something.

If you enjoyed the demo (a lot), I urge you to at least rent and play this, if not buy. DICE have attempted something brave and ambitious and for most parts succeed in extremely well. It's an atmospheric, pretty (I hate the look of the swat outfits, but the environments look superb) and unusual experience that will most certainly be more enjoyable on a second playthrough. And because it doesn't outstay its welcome in the least, you'll probably feel like replaying it quite a few times. Next time I'm shooting those SWAT though, god damnit.

I had the same problem. I thought the helicopter was trying to kill me, so I kept trying to jump off all the other sides of the building. Took me a few tries to figure it out.

I preordered the game from Gamestop today just to get the runner's bag, but I'll probably return the game and keep the preorder bonus. I loved the demo, but $60 for a video game is nonsensical.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

i saw the trailers from the same demo level so many times I automatically knew to jump on the helicopter right away.
I played the demo a few times already and there's just a feeling of achievement when you do everything right and plus it looks awesome. Not sure, I'm on the edge of this game. I feel like I may play the story mode and it'll be great but after that I don't know if there will be any other reason to play it. I may rent it, then later get it for used.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
