Anyone interested in this game? Basically it's a first person game taking the Parkour and chase elements of Assassin's Creed and making it the full focus. The plot is a police state city has taken over and monitors all online and phone activities. So the only way to communicate with each other are to use runners. You play as a sexy, eye tattooed Asian chick and you run across the roofs of buildings. There also appears to be a bit of a Matrix influence, but who isn't influenced by that piece of cinema nowadays, as well as some melee combat. I read that the combat is not really the focus and rather it's more about disarming the enemy and getting to point A safely.

I really dig the artstyle and it doesn't look like the first person view will be too disorienting. Here's hoping the gameplay will be entertaining throughout and that the controls won't suck. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this game.

Yea I saw that a little while ago, and I like the idea of doing many things in first person (to an extent).

I guess also watching it has that same FOV feel as of like Dark Messiah of Might and Magic for example.

It's going to be interesting though, because people will have to change their thoughts on perspective and thinking, as in many cases people have the 3rd person perspective feel from platform-type games.

Say if you were running away from an enemy and decided to hang off from the edge, you'll put more thought into wondering when the guard is going to leave the area completely, turn around in a different direction etc.

I agree that it does look interesting. One thing that's probably just a peculiarity of the concept art: if you're running around like that, that yellow/black bag seen in character art is far better off as a backpack than slung off of one shoulder...

This really captured my attention, and not because of the Asian girl totally. Its looking like a, dare I say, innovative platformer from EA. With a game like this, seeing how its going to handle is the most important factor, so I really can't wait to see more footage of gameplay. Especially that f its close to what I saw in that trailer (Most games get revamps between the teaser and the final product for better or for worse), then I'd definitely be interested in picking it up.

Yea I think I'd definately buy this for PC. It looks pretty awesome and I'm a huge parkour fan, maybe a bit odd to get used to initially, but totally cool.

I consider their studio (EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment i.e. DICE) on a different level than the company as a whole. :p Granted I liked some of the Battlefields, Midtown Madness 3, and Rallysport Challenge games.

The idea of a first-person actioner taking more than a little inspiration from platformers, well that's intriguing. The trailer they released is pretty impressive and certainly raises my level of interest. It remains to be seen if it'll turn out as something worthwhile, but I'm willing to give it a look and will keep an eye out for news as it nears a release.

I've read a couple of articles in EDGE, and the idea that you should feel like you are a running person instead of a floating camera sound interesting. The trailer was really cool. Hopefully it'll be more entertaining than Assassins Creed...

It really comes down to how they do the controls.
If it'll just be regular FPS controls on a pad, that could eat away at the experience. People don't move like tanks on treads, so that could hamper the sense of movement and momentum.

I'm really most worried about how they'll handle aiming. Thankfully they said you should be able to play the game without firing too many times, but I'd imagine it's required at times. The diving, turning around and firing at the guy looks and sounds awesome, but not if you spend most of the dive trying to move the crosshair back and forth over the target in an attempt to aim (like one usually does with console FPS). If the aim kinda "snaps" at a target, this should be ok, but it's quite possible they won't do it.

For those of you who wonder why I'm worried about FPS controls, it's that since you spend a lot of the game running away, looking around for exits and dangers is necessary on the move. This of course will be very difficult if the right stick controls your direction because you'll be forced to run forward without looking around you, or then snake around amusingly. It would be interesting if they somehow mapped a kind of third person platformer controls to the left stick, with the right stick used to quickly glance around without changing your movement direction.

Either way I've been really looking forward to this game ever since reading the old Edge article on it. What they're attempting sounds just the kind of stuff I want to see more in next-gen games. A lot will hinge on just how linear the level design will be. I imagine most doors will be props only, etc. Runner vision should avoid confusion and snags with those, luckily.

Reminds me a bit of Breakdown, but with a manlier main character. I approve of the nice clean city! Such an unknown, mystery thing for video games these days.

Trailer analysis.

Apart from a few groan inducing already obvious details (omg teh logo is the same as faith's tattoo!!!), there was a number of little things I hadn't noticed and really appreciate now.

Still no clues on how it controls, but some of the movement sure points towards a traditional console FPS scheme. My biggest worry now (apart from how aiming works) is how consistent the environment and movement will be, whether you can parkour and pull fancy moves outside the obvious context sensitive action spots, and just how linear the paths will be, as in, will there be room for improvisation.

If anything, you get some nice music and a few sweet freezeframes.

This game seems pretty interesting, i'll have to keep an eye on it. The gameplay looks unique and amazing graphics, one thing though is i didn't see her reflection in the mirrored window? I'm not THAT picky but i like small details, then again it's not even final but the trailer looked great. As for it being fully first person, think it'd be nice to fully rely on something instead of going into third person to sort of "cheat" looking ahead, but i'd agree if they were to use third person just use it in certain elements.

Looks great, escaping a helicopter that's firing at you, can't wait. Wish the game had a clearer release date.

well thought this thread deserved a revival since the demo is out.
Overall it looks incredibly clean and sharp, I don't have an hdtv so I can only imagine how vibrant it might look there.
The whole demo is from the level they kept showing in their trailers so it already felt quite familiar. The controls are a different though, once you get your hand on controlling the girl it feels really sloppy at first. gets a lot of getting used to, especially for me since the only fps I own is cod4.

EDIT: btw, i got the demo from the UK store. For some reason the US store hasn't been updated with anything

The demo really impressed me. I love the whole First Person Platformer feel of the game, and the controls didn't feel very awkward at all (since it's been forever since I played a console FPS). Went into the demo not really knowing much about the game, but with such a solid piece of product it's going to be really tempting to get it in a couple of weeks.

The control scheme is difficult, at first, because it's so simple. If nothing else, everything can be done with some combination of (on the PS3) L1, L2 and R2.

Since it boils down to timing and situation, it can be a little unnerving to slip up, but it's otherwise a lot of fun to play. Looking forward to the release more than ever.

I'm not into FPS' as I almost always get motion sickness from playing them, but surprisingly playing this didn't really make me all that nautious. Or rather not as nautious as I thought I was gonna get from watching the trailers. Especially apparent when I get a good rhythm in my movement, eg. not having to stop and look around for options. I'm definitely gonna consider purchasing this one, though not sure if for the PS3 or 360 but guess I'll find out once I try the 360 version's demo.

I felt like I wanted to hit more buttons than necessary, instead of the same button in a different situation. I dunno, but then I'm pretty much a noob at FPS gameplay anyway.

Well, I've played the demo. It's a neat idea, and I appreciate what they were going for, but man, the camera system is just weak. Would have been SO MUCH BETTER in 3rd person.

I like how this game is pretty much looking like a blatant rip off of Namco's Breakdown. Which, till this day, is still one of my favorite first person shooters. I would say Half-Life 2 like every other buckethead in the world, but I prefer to actually see my character's feet and have a sense of "Ho shit something is happening to my body" instead of just a random flash.

That being said, this game looks pretty, but in terms of everything that I'm seeing, it's already been done before, and I would give it a shot if I had a console. I'd just much rather see a sequel to Breakdown rather than this noise.

Uh, the only way his game could be a ripoff of Breakdown would be if it got everything it tries to do WRONG and ended up being a disappointment. Breakdown was stiff and rigid and was good in theory only, this game actually controls enjoyably and I imagine this would be what Alex controlled like had she hot just been an NPC. Far more enjoyable here than in Breakdown.

That's not to say that I was really in love with the demo. This game seems fruity, dedicated to its Hollywood presentation values and completely alienating me from it. I didn't watch the intro movie because I just didn't care. I don't know, they say that hte military jarhead generic blah character archetype is stereotypical, but I don't really dig this aesthetic either. Anyway, less bullshit and more substance: I hate messing up then having to watch the tutorial sequence all over again just to make another attempt, but this is somewhat new territory for first person games at least regarding execution. It's a new idea so there'll be some transitioning to do.

Frankly, make me another game like Maken X, then I'll care. Platforming is for the birds, at least from what I saw.

I'm going to throw in a 'it was good for it's time' sort of deal with what Breakdown was trying to accomplish. Were the controls stiff? Sure. Were there jumps you had to make in game that sucked? You betcha, but it never became frustrating...at least it didn't for me.

I could either be a Breakdown fanboy, or I could just be a fanboy for first person games such as this, and I'm bitter that this game could have been Breakdown 2 and I probably would have robbed/stolen/saved up for a PS3 to get my hands on it. Fuck HUDS in a first person game, seriously. There is no need for them, and if you think there is, then you need to stop being a god damn pansy. That last statement wasn't directed at anybody except those that think HUDs are the best thing in the world.

As far as new ideas go, the fact you have what looks to be like a first person GTA mixed with Breakdown, that's about it. IF this game allows total freedom and doesn't necessarily follow a linear path, I'll probably dig it, but the combat better be flawless. I don't want to spend an eternity in a game where all you can do is wrap your legs around someone's face.

Is this just in regard to the platforming? Because I can recount several moments in Breakdown where I just wanted to quit. I already remember your love of Breakdown, Grail, so you don't really have a good leg to stand on as far as avoiding getting flagged by the "fanboy with rose tinted glasses" card. The platforming in Breakdown had some puzzling moments and I can already recall several moments I just hated that this game does fine. Like not getting shot at while shimmying across the narrow surface for one thing. Or a dick move final scenario and shitty multiple opponent combat.

Maken X is the better first person action game, bar none, and Mirror's Edge could very well make first person movement a reality. There's a lot of fundamental stuff here from other attempts, but a lot of improvements that I've seen... so far. There's always been cool little what ifs in first person games that Mirror's Edge is doing. Imagine a Thief game with similar movement like this? Or a more action/combat centric game for that matter.

This game is good news, regardless if I don't really dig the aesthetic. And it is doing new things, it's making good on the promise of quality. You can be an astrophysicist dreaming of space all day, the truth is that the astronauts are the guys who go up there and that's what this is about. Theory vs execution. It's clear who's good in theory and who's making it happen.

Dude, Breakdown was literally wasted potential, you can talk about the cool moments all day, but there aren't very many souls out there (myself included) who would want to suffer through it again. And that's for a very good reason. This game isn't "stealing" from anyone.
