In FFVI, my cousin an I named all the charactrs after ours and our friends cats.
the funny part was after the peace talk and meal with the Emperor, the characters get supisious and and say things like 'i smell a rat', 'we better search the place' and 'leave no stone unturned'

he found that funny seeing our kitties wanting to go rat hunting in a FF game.

Fayt Linegod.

I would like to meet the total hipster who thought that was a cool name.
Hey I liked that name!!!

Anyway, I was playing Harvest Moon once and I named the cow after my best friend's girlfriend. She wasn't that happy.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've always named my Harvest Moon animals after friends.

At VGExpo in Dallas last August, I played a game of SSBM with characters named "Coq" and "Wang".

Leviathan - Watersnake
Cactaur - Spikeboy

I always found Tifa to be a pretty odd name, especially the way Marlene says it in AC. Names like Vincent, Yuffie, Cid, and even Cloud could pass off for real names (if the latter had hippie parents), but Tifa doesn't seem to be derived from anything (it spells out like it was short for Tiffany, but it isn't pronounced that way).

The names in FFT are about the most bizzare I've heard. I'll have to pull out the names from Gamefaqs or something.

I will always remeber my one friend's Final Fantasy VIII save file. He had Squall, Rinoa, and Zell in the party. His Squall was named after him, he left Zell's name alone, but he had his sister name Rinoa for him. She called her "BadGirl." Seriosuly, I was choking (and still am) with laughter. Its so ridiculous, its like Rinoa is a dog who jut shit inside the house: "No!, NO!, BAD GIRL!!"

When I played FFVIII for the second time I named the characters after the FFVII chacters but since we can change only Squall, Rinoa and Angelo it wasn't really that cool.
Usually in my first time play I leave the original names, but when replaying the game I change everybody's name.

One I couldn't stand was Ramza from FF Tactics, what a ugly name, so everytime I played it I changed the name.

Psh, Wakka's too easy.

Moving a little ways out of RPGs (but not too far) Advent Children had some out of place names with Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo. It's kinda like playing the "Which Words Don't Fit" game -- Cloud, Zack, Yazoo.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So what if Wakka's easy? It's still a chuckle-inspiring name....

And I agree about the AC names--especially Yazoo. I keep thinking it's a new search engine or something......

And I don't know how I forgot these:

Reinbach Scholtenheim (I, II, III, IV)
Maas, Mace, Meese, Mose, Moose--just say them aloud in order. It's a good chuckle.

the lamest rpg name in history would be Benjamin from Mystic Quest series.

Dont know why, but I never feel comfortable changing rpg characters name.

Now that I think about, Chrono Trigger's "Marle" is a strange name for a girl to have. It sounds like a cross between Carl and Mary. Granted, "Marle" is just her pseudoname, but still. Think of something better!

Mmm, I normally never change character names in RPGs, but I've just started replaying FFVII PC today (am currently in Kalm) and I've renamed Aeris to 'BITCH,' seeing as how I hate her and all. That name sure leads to some funny moments. "What did you do to BITCH?!" I've always renamed Red XIII to Nanaki too, as I'd rather he be called by his real name.

As far as actual character names go, I think the worst name ever in the history of RPG history should go to Mash (FFVI). Ugh, who the hell thought up that name? Other stupid names include most of the cast list from Star ocean 3, Genius and Refill from Tales of Symphonia (I prefer their American names, Genis and Raine), and Butz/Bartz from FFIII.

Shadow Hearts' Roger Bacon. very stupid >.>. That name made me stop playing it any further.

Another name would be Ryuudo Geohound. Heh , you know very damn well they wanted to call him FOXhound =/.

Geohound was Ryudo's occupation, not his last name. If I remember correctly, I don't think anyone in that game had a last name, execpt for Pope Zera Innocentius. There's an odd name for you. Especially with what happens in the end.

Schtolteheim Reinback III and IV from Suikoden were hilarious.

First time I ever played through FFVII, I had just finished watching "Beasties", so I tried to name Cloud, "DepthCharge" (bugger off, I was 11), but it didn't fit, so I ended up naming him "DepthChat". It was simply the most ridiculous name ever. Then I named Barret, "Unknown", because I couldn't think of anything. At the next naming I left them all alone. Wow, that was a really dumb playthrough, now that I think of it.

Went over to a friends house one day, he was playing FFIX. Apparently he had named Garnet Sextoy. Surprised me when I saw it on screen.

Also I thought that the main characters from Secret of Mana had wierd names.

Randi = Boy
Purim = Girl
Popoie = Sprite

Don't really think they are wierd now though.

Like the Bob thing though from FFVII. Its like they all have split personalities.
