Look at it like this...Having an "edge" in battle is a good thing. Being trapped in a "hole" in a battle is not a good thing. Unless we're talking about trenches and using them for a strategic edge, then it gets confusing (especially if you can't differentiate between someone "trapped" in a trench and "positioned" in a trench), but I don't think people use trenches anymore, so hole would most likely be considered bad, because there are much better ways to get an edge.

How about I just vote for "play something new" and call it a day?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

:everyone throws tomatos:
Props to you for having a av/sig combo of the best character in any anime bar none.

I'd say go with 8, but only because IMO 8 has superior everything. (Especially character development) 7 is the most overrated game ever next to HALO.

I liked both, and I would've asked you to try out both but since you have only one choice now....I'd say go for VIII, because it was my favourite XD

No really, I thoroughly enjoyed VII, then when VIII came I loved it even more despite that big letdown in storyline in the middle, but other factors (music, battle system, graphics etc) made up for that. If by any chances you'll be playing both then play them in order. I'm sure you could always borrow a copy from your friends or something.

I was speaking idiomatically.

FF7 was spoiled to me and I didn't play it till years later so obiously to me it wasn't anything spactacular. I'm not saying its a bad game either, if you like anime then you'll like this.
I loved VIII most of all, I dont care what anyone tells me. FFVIII is a game I can pick up again and keep going for countless hours. The fmv's are incredible evertime I look at them, the art style is nothing but eye candy with all the bright and vibrant colors. I love all the characers, they have the best limit breaks than any other final fantasy game and not only that but the music is freakin delicious.

Why thank you very much. Manny. I do love Kanzaki, she's so smart and dare I say, cute.

If it's either one or the other, well, I personally, as stated before, have a softspot for FFVIII, so if I were you, I'd go with VIII. However, my "vote" will be pretty much nulled by all the VII fanboys ( which I can sometimes be one myself), so VII will win anyway.

~Final Fantasy VIII~

The soundtrack including Eyes On Me.
Awesome characters, including a female villain!
Beautiful setting, FMV's, and love story.
Lionheart.
I love the junction battle system, where you basically equip magic to increase stats.
The Airship.
Triple Triad.

It's just a beauitiful game.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I like how you can basically junction Tornado to any of the HP junctionable characters and easily get close to 9999 HP even before the end of the 2nd disc. Or some insane amount of HP, that is.

Seeing as you've played through most of it and still have an avid interest in it, I'd say go ahead and finish FF8. Certainly at that point you've gone through the most-vilified parts without being turned off to it, and Disk 4, along with Disk 1, are FF8's highlights.

FF7's ending isn't the best part of that one, but certainly knowing it'll keep you from wondering how it wound up, whereas you seem sorta stuck of that point with FF8.

Here's my two cents.

If you're going to play both, play Final Fantasy VII before Final fantasy VIII, or you will be severely disappointed when you go back to play Final Fantasy VII. Looking back on it, if you've never played either one, it won't be that bad, but if you've already played both, your second time through Final fantasy VII will be mediocre as fuck.

So In Conclusion:

Final Fantasy VII first
Final Fantasy VIII second

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I would've thought the otherway. I think Final Fantasy VIII is a brilliant game, but VII is just bliss, and for it to follow VII made people think of it as a worse game just because the standards had been set so high.

I've play FFVII twice I think, maybe three times. Love it ;D Still gotta play through FFVIII and IX again.

The standards were never set high. Technically, Final Fantasy VII was not as good as Final Fantasy VI. It was held in high praise because it was the First Final Fantasy to hit 3D graphics, which hid an otherwise mediocre storyline and character development. With that said, Final Fantasy VIII trumps it in the graphics area as well as the mediocre storyline and character development of Final Fantasy VII. People just didn't give it as much praise because Final Fantasy in the third dimension has already been achieved. Most of the goals Squaresoft set for Final Fantasy VIII were achieved. It just depends on if you liked the GF/Magic Drawing system or not.

I'd have to say, the music really wasn't that good either, when compared to everything else. People thought it was good because of the new sound technology. No longer did it sound like 16-bit sound. But the actual composition of the music itself? Kinda sucked if you ask me. Some were terrific, but others sucked big ass.

How ya doing, buddy?

I partly disagree, as I've seen many people say the synth quality of FFVII horrible. Indeed, though Uematsu and some other staffs could use more than twice channels in the new platform (it allowed them to compose more cinematic music), they were forced to reduce the size of instruments data at the same time because of the loading time. When it comes to FFVII and FFVIII, it's only streamed tracks such as "Eyes on me" and "Liberi Fatali" that we can feel 'new sound technology'.

I don't disagree Uematsu was more powerful in SNES era, but I prefer his PSX works to SNES and it's not because they have the new sound technology.

So, you've played 6 FF games and not finished one of them? I don't know whether to insult you for your crappy attention span or commend you for having a go at them anyway...

So what's your decision then? 7 or 8?
