Going back to Classics(IMO)Need Decision made. FF8 or FF7?

Ok so, ya they made ff8 and ff7 for teh PC wayyy back in the days, i remember buying ff8 at errr(in canada,QC) Costco (:P) and i was like 10-11yrs old lol and it was sooo fun till my comp died( i was at disc 4) and i never got to beat the game( long story short, have a short-tempered bro who likes to break my things, hes older...so i couldn't so anything ( i'm using past-tense :P) but now i found a cheap copy of both and decided that i how relive my childhood again so i was like which to get.

FF7 Story: ok one of my best friends in elementry had this for PC and he was obsessed....one day when i was over at his place i saw him beat the game. so that kinda killed my anxiety to play the game after seeing the ending :( but other than that i never played it. All over i hear "OMFG FF7 is the best FF ever" they also made Advent Children. yea i saw it and it kiked ass lol ( jap. ver. only. becuz i hate dubs :P Original all the way baby)

to the bottom line. Which should i get. i can only get oen at a time. meaning i need to beat one to get the other ( explination disclosed) ...ok after sayign that i have no idea why this matter anymore. but still which first.

Leknaat Nov 4, 2006 02:44 AM

Well, you just saw Advent Children, so why not get FF7 first and refresh your memory about the game and storyline?

I've played many games over and over--even after beating them just to re-experience them.

(ironically, I was just thinking about playing FF8 again...lol)

Solution: Buy Fallout Collection.

Final Fantasy VII is probably the way to go. Even to this day, I still play VII before even thinking about playing VIII.

Moving to RPGs for now, although everyone will just tell you to play FFVII and this time I'd also agree with them.

Feel free to close this yourself once you've had enough super useful advice.

Krelian Nov 4, 2006 04:17 PM

FFVIII. It looks better, plays better, ...everything about it is superior. FFVII was a goddamned trainwreck of a game, and I can't wrap my head around why it gets as much praise as it does.

Black Mamba Nov 4, 2006 04:20 PM

Final Fantasy VII. Period. I mean, its wildly popular for a reason. It needs to be experienced and I recommend you buy/play it first.

Freelance Nov 4, 2006 04:22 PM

FFVII may be a good game, but FFVIII is a better game. Either way, it's probably best just to play both. However, it's probably best to play FFVII first since you've already seen AC.

Memnoch Nov 4, 2006 04:22 PM

You're right about FF7 being the best, but Advent killed the story..wait a minute, yes it NEVER EXISTED (like X-2) !!

Jochie Nov 4, 2006 06:15 PM

Just play them in the order they were released. That should work out.

Golfdish from Hell Nov 4, 2006 06:33 PM

FF7's gameplay and lack of "Eyes on Me" gives it the edge. FF8's drawing system and occurences of "Eyes on Me" put it in a hole.

Muzza Nov 4, 2006 06:38 PM

I'd recommend Final Fantasy VIII, definitely. I'm a FFVIII fanboy, not a FFVII one; that game just didn't enrapture me as much as the 8th. FFVIII: better graphics, better soundtrack and better storyline IMO (holds up flame shield).

..But if I had to recommend any FF game I'd say Final Fantasy I. Play it now; go back to the series' amazing roots.

Borg1982 Nov 4, 2006 07:04 PM

Final Fantasy VII is better in every way.

Spatula Nov 4, 2006 09:57 PM

Start with VII, it's fun to play and it's worth the trip. I'm in the minority and have a softspot for VIII, but I guess I have that taste for it, but do play both.

C'mon guys, VIII isn't that bad, now is it?

:everyone throws tomatos:

Dullenplain Nov 4, 2006 10:07 PM

I recommend VIII. At least it hasn't aged as badly as VII had. Even VI feels much more recent than VII.

If there was a game that deserved expansion on its world alone, it would be VIII.

Golfdish from Hell Nov 4, 2006 10:12 PM

I will say, despite my objection to a number of elements in FFVIII (drawing, characters, the entire "love" theme, the
Spoiler:
orphanage twist
), I thought it told the story rather well and I'm glad I stuck with it through the end. Considering how many RPG's I start and don't finish, that's a passing grade if I ever saw one.

But still zero doubt FFVII is better.

Leknaat Nov 5, 2006 12:39 AM

Folks, he's not asking which one period. He already knows he's going to play both--he just wants to know which he should play first.

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 12:44 AM

Well if that's the case, VII then VIII. You could reverse them since they're total seperate stories, as with almost all of the other FF's, but I don't really see why. Either way you choose you can't really go wrong, since both of them are pretty good games.

HyeVltg3 Nov 5, 2006 12:52 AM

ok i forgot to add, i've played ff7 before lol i remember this morning. I raised a golden chocobo and i was heading to the crater to fight seph when...ummm no idea what happened but i stopped playing....yes i also got knights of the round table. but for some reason i forgot. oh well.....ok im putting up a poll so i can actually see which is getting a higher vote cause most are like " get both" lol :P VOTEE :P help me...umm im going to say "help you" but....its more liking helping me and those who are stuck at this decision too :P... BTW, to certain surcumstances i cant get both. so only one. :(

EDIT*** aww sux i dont have a clue on how to get a poll running after a thread has been sumbitted. :( oh well so far heres a Vltg3-made-poll.

FFVII: 8 ( excluding those who said play them in order )
FFVIII: 5 ( excluding the same as above)

btw, i canceled the following votes because they were clear> Memnoch, GoldfishX( srry man, i couldn't understand what you mean... is a Hole good? and what about "the Edge" do you mean the "Good" edge or bad lol im confused...im no baka) :P

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 12:56 AM

Getting a golden chocobo and Knights of the Round Table is already pretty far in the game, if I remember correctly. I think this spell is only really needed for the Weapons, as this would basically make mince meat out of Sepheroth in no-time. Of course I can't confirm because I was always too lazy and didn't bother raising a Golden Chocobo =/.

HyeVltg3 Nov 5, 2006 01:11 AM

lol. i jsut wanted to get all teh summon materia :P lol so yay i was pretty far in the game, ( BTW I'd like declare one thing so people stop talking about "re-" experiences :P ...i've played ff's 2,6,7,8,9,10...and ummm....i've never beaten em. couldn't keep my attention devoted to the game long enough to beat it :( )

so yea with that out in the open. i got to ff8's ...i think when you get launched up to space, hope that doesn't count as a spoiler.

jb1234 Nov 5, 2006 01:40 AM

FFVII is mostly well-loved by all whereas FFVIII is definitely a love it or hate it game (I hated it). I'd play both... but in order.

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 02:13 AM

Where you were in FFVIII is about 3/4s through the game. You basically get your main airship, the Ragnarok (my personal favorite so far of all FFs), so you can fly around and do all your sidequests.

HyeVltg3 Nov 5, 2006 03:33 AM

ya i remember the Rag, lol i tried to get tonberry and cactar(or cactus) oh yea i also got Odin lol, he was soo fun to get. TIME LIMIT lol loved it.

Antignition Nov 5, 2006 03:46 AM

Both were great games, but FFVIII goes down as the most underrated of the series, by far.

Which one you play first? That's a dumb question, it doesn't matter.

VIII is also the only one that has a soundtrack with more than 5 tracks you can listen to outside of the game.
