SUPER SMASH BROS MELEE. I cannot believe nobody else mentioned this. Those 8 months of waiting were some of the worst in my lifetime. I'm sure it was massively hyped, even by word of mouth alone. I'd memorize every nook and cranny of each screenshot, I'd read the game articles over and over, it was tense. My buds who loved SSB were the same way. Go figure, it's not my favorite GC game, but it certainly is one of my most played, and I always have a blast.

As for now? Well, I certainly can moderate myself, and I'm not completely obsessed with anything, but if I had to say one game, it would probably be Smash Bros Brawl =P

EDIT: Wait, you guys meant preorder scenario? That's kinda boring... considering I have never preordered a game ever (!)

EDIT: Worst thread title yet, OO

There's nowhere I can't reach.

We agree there, comet. And hey there, Mortis. Good to see you`re still here. The only guy to call me double O.

I remember preordering Turok with twenty dollars down. Never did go pick it up because my mother turned on me that month. Damn waste of money.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Halo 2, I got spazes while holding the shiny case (still the coolest case for any game). The game itself was good but without live it had a short lifetime.

Devil May Cry 3 Downloaded every trailer Capcom released up until it's debut on the WEST SIDE. Preordered it about four months before it came out. I played the ass out of it and the game currently stands as one of my all-time favorites.

That's really the only game I went out of my way to preorder so early. I went and preordered Megaman Zero two weeks in advance, but that's about it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yeah, the Lunar games were pretty goddamn anticipated for me. I just gave up on Silver Star Story until I just saw it one day in a TRU and immediately bought it. Eternal Blue I pre-ordered online, I think on Amazon or something, and it kept on getting fucking delayed. Nearly drove me insane.

Zelda OoT I pre-ordered at BB and got this N64 game binder that had the Zelda logo on it. I didn't know what the fuck EB was at the time, but that didn't prevent my frothing need for a new Zelda. I felt the same way about Majora's Mask (Which I still feel was a disappointment) and Wind Waker (Which was good, but not nearly as good as OoT). The only reason I haven't pre-ordered the new Zelda is because I'm still not sure if I'm getting a Wii.

I admit to falling into the hype that was Final Fantasy VIII as well. I played FFVII on PC, and FFVIII was one of the sole reasons I bought a PS1. I bought it soon after FFVII came out and got Parasite Eve, which had a demo of Xenogears which I thought was cool enough to ask my mom to pick it up for the holidays, which I enjoyed far more than FFVIII in the end. (My dad ended up buying FFVIII the day it came out in '99, the same day as the Dreamcast launched. My head was filled with delusions of Sony purposely making this release date to upstage the DC launch)

Xenosaga was one of my most anticipated games ever, to be sure. I was mostly hoping for it to be as good as Xenogears, but I never could get into it (READ: I reached a boss that I couldn't fucking beat after nearly 30 tries, and gave up.). I have all three games though, and I intend to give them another chance soon.

I admittedly gave into the hype of Fable, and while I certainly didn't think it was as disappointing as some other people, I thought it was a great game. I actually beat it twice in a row before moving on, one good and one evil game.

Recent launch obsessions have included Oblivion (Which is awesome, but I'm not into it as much as I thought I would be. Looking back, I couldn't get into Morrowind either, so I'm not sure why I thought Oblivion would be different, although it is unquestionably better), and Dead Rising, which I was heralding as the second coming of games. It's awesome, but not THAT awesome.

Nowadays I usually just pop into stores the week games come out, or a week after, since I can usually get them cheaper that way. I don't mind missing out on most of the bonuses, so I get more games in the end.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Actually, I'm sitting on my hands lately waiting for a firm US release date for Phoenix Wright: And Justice For All so I can pre-order that sucker.

Going back to when I last did pre-order games (last one was Lunar 2 Complete, in case you're wondering...would've been worth it, if they hadn't ramped the difficulty to Completely Unfun), I was most certainly that way for FF7. I remember feeling a bit of pride in having a copy of the game a good five days before I owned a PlayStation. I say without shame it's still one of my three favorite RPGs, so yeah, that one was worth it.

Other games I've walk-in bought on the day they launched were Metal Gear Solid (worth it), Klonoa (worth it), Megaman Legends (worth it), Gran Turismo (yawn), Megaman X5 (grr), FF Chronicles (worth it, even though I had the originals), Paper Mario (worth it), Sonic Adventure 2 (enhh), FFX (worth it), and DMC3: Special Edition (worth it).

How ya doing, buddy?
DAMN good coffee!

Several games had me going complete apeshit over, and quite a few were justified. Dragon Quest VIII -- I practically shit myself when I finally got my copy. Most recently though would be Okami. Ohhhh glorious Amaterasu. *worship*

I've got Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria pre-ordered right now and I know I'll flip out when I get the game.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
