I wouldn't be surprised if that's a bootleg, hikarub, especially considering the amount of subtitles and lack of extras in there, but who knows.

If any Canadians are here, I'd advise getting it at amazon.ca. The special edition is 40 bucks in stores, but amazon.ca is selling it for 26.96. Sounds like a good deal to me!

A friend of mine told me that the movie was pushed back from the April release, but since I don't think anyone else here mentioned anything about it, I suspect that is not the case. If it gets delayed yet again for who-knows-what, I shall go nuts.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

No, I seriously doubt it's a bootleg. For one, it's by ERA which is pretty well-known in Asia; and two, it's being sold in HMV, who do not sell bootlegs of any kind. I can say it's an actual DVD release of AC, apparently more than 10 days earlier than in North America.

I'm just wondering why it's only one disc. Is there a special edition for Asia later on or something? Or have we just been screwed? In any case, I may just wait for the NA release and then just import it over here. It's not worth buying if it's missing so much content.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Man, what's up with foreign countries getting the goods first? You guys are lucky. Apparently Switzerland (could be more, but I dunno) is getting the newest Sims 2 expansions at least a week before North America.

P.S. I never knew HMV was located in any other country besides Canada!

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The DVD has both Japanese and English soundtracks and subtitles in English, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian and a number of others. The main thing that caught my eye and stopped me from purchasing it was the fact that it was only 1 disc. The only extra included in the disc was the Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII, no commentary, trailers or deleted scenes were mentioned.

I couldn't find ERA's website (if they have one) but here's a site that is taking orders for the HK version. Unfortunately, it doesn't include much information on what is or isn't included on the disc.

http://www.sensasian.com/view/product.cgi/EN/V11118-D

Anyone else seen this around?
Thanks for informing me, I'm from Hong Kong, and I'll see if I can check it out at HMV Causeway Bay sometime this week.

Its one disk cause usually HK versions of DVDs are crap. Even DVDs that don't have vanilla disks in the USA ended up in vanilla disks in HK. There were also cases where the DVD in the USA is one disk with features, and yet the HK distibution morons cut out all those features and made it vanilla.

We get it first probably cause we're closer to Japan, and there may have been some agreement to release it as soon as the dub was ready. In Hong Kong if the movie you want on DVD gets distributed then that means its gonna be cheap.

It also means the surround sound quality is usually lessened (know this for a fact, I know a man who rates the sound and picture on DVDs as occupation, HK DVDs are one of the worse, USA and Japan the best, some England ones are great too), and sometimes the extra features are also missing, hence why I don't buy HK DVDs.

Remember guys, for a earlier release, we probably lost all the extra features, personally I rather wait for the USA disk for all the extra features and much better sound, HK people are always getting gyped on those.

And HMV is everywhere world wide, even in Japan or England.

As a personal note, I'm surprised they even bothered to release it in Hong Kong now, by now I say at least 90% of the FF fan population in HK have already downloaded the fan subs already, considering most gamers I know here (I know quite a number) all pirate games. If they lose sales cause of that then I blame whichever company that made the dumb decision to delay the release, they had it coming.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ok, from the back cover, its obvious that the 2nd disk is the same as the advent pieces Special DVD.

And lo and behold, cantonese(Chinese)subtitles! There is NO WAY I'm getting that gyped Hong Kong vanilla disk now!

I hope the languages text is meant to read "english AND japanese 5.1", because it sort of looks like only the japanese has 5.1. Of course it goes without saying the english track will have 5.1 also, I'm just saying it could be read that way.

Aside from that, there isn't much else to say. The back cover came out pretty much how I imagined it. The whole thing feels like something that should've been ready 6 months ago.

Is it really? Aside from Last Order, are we missing any other extras? I don't see the commentary track listed at all, and that was one of the few commentaries I was looking forward to hear. I read it's quite informative, discussing both the movie and the game.

If it turns out the commentary isn't in this release, is there a site anywhere that has a translation?

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I believe Advent Children.net forums had some fans listing out some major interesting points from the commentary, but I hate going there cause it takes forever to load.

I think aside for Last Order and the commentary, it looks ok, I'm not sure if the USA DVD has the FF7 Reminisque featurette though, it consists of some Live actions shots and we hear Clouds phone calls and messages as he travels through the fields, after each call or message from a different character, we see scenes from the Orignal FF7 game set to Tifa's piano theme, One Winged Angel, and Aeris theme Orchestral.

It should be available at all HMVs I imagine. I'll probably pop by Central and check it out over there as well on Monday.

Goddamn, that is so true. Nearly 80% of movies from around the world get the shitty treatment by the time we get them.

HK$109 something over here. I thought it was a mistake before realizing there was so much content missing.

I'll try asking these guys at HMV whether or not there's another version coming as well or if this is it. I was really tempted to buy it but........

How disappointing........

That would be the Reminiscence of FFVII extra found in Disc 1. It's also the one extra I am very much looking forward to. I would love to hear the characters' input on certain key moments from the game, plus I read that it helps flesh out characters like Cloud more, especially his feelings toward Tifa.

There's always the slim chance that the NA version will get an exclusive trailer that doubles as a confirmation of the next project (remake, sequel or otherwise). That would be a pretty nice consolation prize, but I won't get my hopes up.

I suggest importing the American version, a slightly earlier release does not justify all this loss of extra features. Ask if HMV will import it.

I'm heading to LA for college in May, so I probabl hold it off till then.

The Reminiscence of FFVII is included, unfortunately no commentary. As for subtitles, for some reason we get Korean, Chinese, and Thai subs...

Quote:
DVD Features:
Available Subtitles: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Thai
Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), Japanese (Dolby Digital 5.1)
Disc One
Feature film in two formats: original Japanese language with English subtitles; and dubbed in English
Featurette in English "Reminiscence of "Final Fantasy VII" featurette (story digest of original game)
Disc Two
Sneak peak of upcoming "Final Fantasy VII" games
The Distance: Making-of Featurette
Trailers
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...v=glance&n=130

As for the phone calls/intermissions during the feature, they're just little calls between Cloud and some of the gang, as they're planning a meeting. They don't actually comment on the events that are being summarized. As for the summary itself, kinda just shows the key points in the story (even including the optional characters Vincent and Yuffie).

Anyway, maybe that bonus disc from pre-ordering will include some of the stuff mentioned during the commentary. Though, if anyone has a translated script of the commentary from the japanese DVD, then please pass it over! As I'd love to know what Nomura and staff were talking about.

Oh and here's a torrent to the FFVII Ultimania Omega, someone scanned it!

Also, here's the FFVIII Ultimania Guide too.

What stuff? Also, I doubt it, since it feels more like some tacked-on mainstream disc to show that the movie is using real actors, and promoting some of Sony's other crap.

Scans of the Ultimania is nice, but I'd prefer a full translation. I've read a few snippets from ac.net, and that book is a goldmine of conceptual info (Tifa with a scar in her back? Cloud as a samurai? Vincent as a letcher? More of Red's species, each named after a color? Neato).

I remember someone (lurker I think) linking to a forum that was dedicated to translating the book in parts. Anyone have that link?

Please read carefully, the official REAL HK DVD is out now, with the English dub and Japanese voices. The one you're referring to is the movie leaked on the net as a movie file.

Where do you think the internet got the movie from? I heard that Hong Kong or maybe Thailand or some shit, I don't really know, got the movie before Japan did by a matter of two or three days. That is what I am asking. I could give a shit what bootleggers sell in places I don't live.

Actually it was someone working in SE Japan who leaked it, Nomura was pissed as hell, they managed to find the person and he was sued.

English clip from Sony Site.
Ah, I didn't know that.

A lot of the voice acting has a backlash simply because people having been imagining these characters sounding a certain way for almost a decade. After listening to the english trailers a few times I'm starting to get used to the voices that clash with how I imagined them, such as Cid's.

Weird. The dub doesn't feel like its working out too well. >.> Somehow the audio feel fragamented. Naturally, its got the enhanced pronouncement like any other dubs, but this one seem to be even more out of place somehow. The Barret's voice in English really isnt working out for me. >.> They need to get some real actor for something like this.
