E3 looks promising for DDR this year.

Secondly is DDR UNIVERSE which is slated for an XBox 360 release. Apparantly it's taking DDR into the "next-gen." 10/11/06 is its release date.

Third is DDR Ultramix 4, coming out on 11/14/06 for the XBox.

And on a somewhat related note, Karaoke Revolution: American Idol has a release date of 11/15/06.

Things are looking pretty good for DDR in the US.
Ah, Konami. You never cease to amaze me. Sucks that I can't go to E3, but G4 will be covering it LIVE, not that they'll bother with DDR (bastards).

Anyway, no songs apparently have been leaked, but for SuperNOVA, I'm sure it'll be pretty much all the new songs being added to the arcade version that were NOT on Extreme 2.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Seems like a great idea. I thought DDR deserves some good Online play.

It's funny you should mention American Idol too. I had this crazy idea that they should make American Idol 360 with Online play. Having people on X-Box Live Boo you off the stage. Priceless.

I really just left it in the quote, cuz I knew some people would yell at me or something for leaving it out. I'm not a Karaoke Revolution fan myself.

However, for SuperNOVA, I forgot to point out that I'm sure it's gonna use the same interface as the arcade SuperNOVA.

As for Ultramix 4, we can only pray they go back to the songwheel or something better than what they did for Ultramix 3. The songlist itself was great, but I didn't like the whole bubbly UM3 engine. It was fine in UM2, but UM3 ruined it.

As for DDR Universe, chances are, it'll be a bundled game, because it's the first one on a next-gen console and I don't think they ever made converters for original Xbox dance pads, so yeah, we're looking at about $59.99 or $69.99, depending on how much the game by itself goes for in a couple months after release.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't see a point to a 360 release... since when does arrows scrolling to an indicator, a background video, and a life bar need the latest graphics? Sure PS1 couldn't handle newer DDR mixes but come on....

Money. It's all about money. Why do you think they made Mario Mix for GCN? Because they knew they'd score cash from non-PS2/Xbox owners. It's also the excuse, I'm sure, for the birth of Ultramix.

(Here I am giving the sad facts and I've already made pre-order plans for all 3 DDR games.)

I was speaking idiomatically.

Make the characters look as human as possible? And possibly real dance moves this time around?

Only thing I could think of.

I'm defenitely getting DDR SuperNOVA though. Can't wait.

Well, it's time to bring this thread back to life, because there's been an update.

Last Night, Bemanistyle and Microsoft leaked the trailer to DDR UNIVERSE from E3. I managed to score it at the XLM, and I'm pretty sure it won't be much different from the Ultramix series, well, at least 2 and 3.

While it didn't show any possible songs, it did show several features of the game:

New "Super Easy" mode
New songs exclusive to the 360
XBox Live support
New "continously mixed power courses"

Uh, yeah, of course LIVE support. It's on the Xbox.

Super Easy mode is just an excuse to get newcomers who aren't even on Beginner or Light yet to buy a 360 and the game as far as I know.

Right now, the only things I'm concerned about are the new songs and these "power courses". Don't remember that being in the Ultramix series.

If they can't play on Beginner, they don't deserve to play DDR. I saw a lot of people playing on Beginner that can't play Light yet because they can't get it in their head to not put their feet back in the center after each arrow. Imagine with a easier mode than Beginner... Apocalypse.

Ah, the news at Bemanistyle continues to pour.

DDR SuperNOVA: (PS2)
It looks like Dance Master Mode is going to be changed to Stellar Master Mode, to go along with the "space" theme going on with the DDR games (har har har, Universe). Online play and EyeToy support return. Workout Mode appears to get the brand-new features that were introduced in EXTREME 2. Lastly, the game will link with the arcade release here in the U.S. Europe got fgsfds'd. =\ Here's a songlist seen from screenshots:

-Fly Away - ChiyoTia
-Innocence of Silence - nc ft. NRG Factory
-My Only Shining Star - NAOKI feat. Becky Lucinda
-True <3 Love - jun
-Curus - D-crew
-Graduation - BeForU
-Hit 'n' Slap - Asletics
-DoLL - Terra

The interface looks the same as the arcade version.

DDR Ultramix 4 (Xbox)
Only a data sheet was provided so not much with the songlist going on. Besides the usual Xbox Live features, the game promises refinements to current modes such as Quest, Jukebox, and Party Mode. Edit Mode can now interact with background videos too. The game promises 65 new songs, but somewhat disappointing was the mention of the backwards compatibility of the 75 current songpack songs. In other words, no more UM3 songpacks will be available from here on. Beginners will get three modes to learn to play the game FINALLY. And there's a new Relay mode:

...where friends and family play DDR like a marathon race, allowing players to switch off to other teammates and keep the dance party going all night long.

Lastly, Akira and Yuni were seen as selectable dancers.

The interface seems to take elements from UNIVERSE.

DDR Universe (working title!) (Xbox 360)
Oddly enough, the press release for this game is touting the same features as seen on Ultramix 4, even down to the 65 new songs. It'll have similiar features like the latest Ultramixes: online play, downloadable songs, trading Edit Data, etc., in addition to the "continuously mixed" courses. Graphically, the background videos look like they're out of the Ultramixes (sans UM1). Dancers Emi and Rage can be seen with their hair flowing now, while Emi gets a new cowgirl outfit. Here's some songs cleverly hidden in the Universe trailer:

-Summer Fantasy - Alien Six
-Precious (Sasha's Gargantuan Vocal Mix) - Depeche Mode
-Koibito - Togo Project feat. Sana

Karaoke Revolution: American Idol
It's set to have 40 songs and stage progression appears to mimic that of the American Idol series. Also, you get to be "critiqued" by the judges, if you're into that sort of thing.
No more Bemani?? COME ON!!!! Beatmania wasn't that bad in sales, was it? Don't make me keep ordering IIDX imports from Japan, no matter how awesome a songlist each one has.

Aight, time to set some personal preview-reviews.

SuperNOVA: The name change on Dance Master Mode doesn't really mean anything to me. It'll still be the same thing, me bored with the first few dozen missions until I get to the Heavy missions. I like the idea, though, that the name change helps keep the "Space" theme going, as I'm kind of a space freak.

Unfortunately, there was no songlist count revealed, so I guess we'll just have to wait til September, where I'll give a better review.

Ultramix 4: Well, let me backtrack first. I'm kinda disappointed that there won't be another 3 traditional songpacks, but then again, it's probably because they ran out of ideas.

Anyway, back to the topic. From what I saw on Universe's trailer, Ultramix 4 won't be much different as far as interfaces go from UM2 and UM3. Even KCET had to change their interface after MAX2, sadly. And no songlist, either? Well, it just makes it a bit more surprising at this point.

Universe: Again, interface probably won't be much different from UM2 and UM3. Of course, it'll prolly look more "spaced out". First game of the DDR series for 360, and it only has 65 starter songs? Well, I'm not surprised. Didn't Ultramix 1 have like, 56 or something??

Oh, well, should be fun.

Annnddd... I'm not a fan of Karaoke Revolution, so I won't be reviewing that one. Sorry.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Hopefully they finally get an xbox release running a smooth 60fps... why is it that the more powerful xbox can't run 60fps while the less powerful ps2 can? Well anyways, these games are looking promising. I'll definitely buy them regardless of reviews though

"Continualy mixed power courses" sounds like a souped-up version of Nonstop mode...

Anyway, SuprNOVA has somewhere ~65 songs, or so says the Konami page on it for the PS2. However, it looks like they just copied/paste that info from every other DDR game on the PS2 under the sun..

The Arcade ver. has over 300 though?! wtf...you can fit more than 65 ninety-second songs on a PS2 DVD........-_-

Yeah, but then there's also the engine they use, which is a gig or 2, and the video clips for every song used over and over, that's a lot of space, too. Chances are, it'll be at the least a traditional 70-song game.

Oh, yeah, don't forget the codings for Stellar Master Mode and Online Mode, as well as character sprites and shit like that.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Still, DDR Extreme (Japan) had 111 songs. There's more to it than capacity issues.

I doubt the engine is 1-2gb. MAX and MAX2 are hardly 1gb in size, and each also had 65 songs or so.

So when do us GCN-pad owners get another DDR game? I mean, Mario Mix is great for those of us continually stuck at the 5-foot plateau, but I need more game.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
It was lunchtime at Wagstaff.
Touching butts had been banned by the evil Headmaster Frond.
Suddenly, Tina Belcher appeared in the doorway.
She knew what she had to do.
