Something I always hated about Gamerips...
is the lenth most rippers make them.
I don't think one song should loop about 6 or 7 times. After a while it just gets to be annoying. I think the songs should just go for 3 full times and then stop. If it goes for longer I usually get bored with the song. I mostly have this problem with the songs that are recorded for over 5 minutes. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I don't think I've ever heard a track from a game rip that looped six or seven times. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard a track with more than three loops, and even that's a somewhat rare occurrence. Typically, most are one or two.
I prefer two, personally, except in the case of extremely long songs (like, five minutes or more per loop). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
why would you want a song to loop at all?
thats what the repeat button on your stereo is for. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Personally, I like rips that are longer length. Maybe 6+ loops gets to be a bit much, but I prefer it's too long and being easy to cut down than too short and nearly impossible to lengthen. But most of the song rips that go on for over 5 minutes have pretty long loops, so you probably still won't hear it repeat more than two or three times.

I only know about one song that loops thrice, and that's the Final Battle from Seiken Densetsu. Aside from that, I like my songs to loop 1337 times, if they are aw3some.
How ya doing, buddy? |
*remembers that he once set Storm Eagle Stage to loop 9999 times*
Yes, I like exessive loops sometimes. Although I wonder why I added Sigma Fortress 1 and Prologue Stage to that playlist when it would've taken 100+ hours for the Storm Eagle Stage to stop playing.... What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I let my tracks loop twice with a 15sec fade out of a third loop.
A loop can be 4 minutes long, I don't care, it will loop twice anyway. FELIPE NO |
I don't do rips as often as I used to, but when I do, I usually loop the song only one. If a song is going to be over 5-6 min if looped twice, I normally don't loop it at all. But, looping it 6 or 7 times? That's ridiculous, no matter how good it is. I don't think I've ever come in contact with a rip that looped songs that much though, personally. Most of the rippers here at GFF are awesome and know what they're doing.

Wasn't there some guidelines somewhere that determined how a song should be ripped and how many loops it has depending on the length?
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Mwahaha I'd never follow guidelines. I just rip it and throw it out somewhere for someone else to do the work.
![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Having tracks loop three times bugs me somewhat. I just rip the tracks at two loops and then fade out at the beginning of the third loop. Seems like the standard for most OSTs and gamerips anyway.
(I have never seen a rip of any track that loops 6-7 times. Ridiculous if you ask me) I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Well, it usually happens on little jingles that aren't suppose to be like a full songs. I guess some rippers just let it loop anyways.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm also in with the "two loop" (with small third loop fadeout) crowd; that's how I do my game rips as well. If it's very long, I'll settle for one. If it's very short, I'll settle for three. I don't see the need for any more than three complete loops, ever.

I haven't come across any rip that is looped six or seven times. Like bishop743 said, most of the rippers here know what they're doing.
For me personally, looping a song once or twice is good. FELIPE NO |
I have never been a fan of looping tracks in my rips, especially if they are really short to begin with (from NES, or SNES soundtracks) Looping once if the tracks is bit longer (2-3 minutes) is okay with me however. My thought on this is, if people like a certain track it is easy enough to go into "Reapeat One" playback mode and loop it themselves. I find this really cuts back on the overall file size of the rip and cuts out unnecessary playback time.

Being a ripper/encoder myself. I stick to the "two and out" method. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I agree that gamerips are generally too long, though I don't think it's necessarily the loops. Many OSTs mix several tracks together, while rips will just list them as different tracks. This is my biggest problem with them, since it's what makes the rips so long.

My rips are also like everyone else's with one slight exception:
I let the third run 5 seconds, then start the 10 second fade out...unless the song is around a minute or less. Most amazing jew boots |

6 or 7 loops? WTF? When I do gamerip I always make one loop no matter the length of the song. Then another loop for fading. I don't let songs "fade out 10 second" as I like to listen to the song and pinpoint on where a song shoud end with fading. So one song can last about 5 second before fading while another song can last 15 second (bet most of you don't get what I'm trying to say here <_< ).

Self-determination is the greatest thing that gamerippers have. As long as we're doing the rip, we'll make it however long we choose. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |

There are games like shooter, where it doesn't make sense to loop at all. For example when a stage is really short and you are used to the music playing only for this short time, it sounds somewhat unacquainted and lengthy to put in a loop. Ideally you would rip exactly to how the music fades in the game, and not depending on loops at all. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Most official releases loop at least twice, anyhow.
