Hey Pang, two questions
1) is there a waitlist and 2) can I be The Flash and Wolverine again How ya doing, buddy? |
You can if you somehow get the two random things that make them. That's the fun! Maybe you'll get something that's better or the same. Maybe you'll get something worse! Something terribad! That's the fun! That's the fun! That's the fun! That's the fun!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
You don't really have to worry about "turns" until combat breaks out, and outside combat you pretty much only ever roll d20. You'd do this whenever you want your character to do something it's plausible to fail at (pick a lock, hotwire a car, hack a computer, talk an angry mutant into not shooting you, whatever). Then you add your relevant skill bonus to whatever you rolled on the d20 and I compare that to whatever number seems fair for the task. For example, Skittles has the best Perception in the group, +9; if there's something hidden, he'd have the best chance to find it. But if the task would require Science knowledge, it would be better to hang back and let Squeeze or Stonum handle it. If you want to try something that requires multiple possible failures (hotwire a truck, ramp it into a lake, manage to avoid drowning), then just do one check at a time and edit your post if you fail partway through the sequence. You probably need some alternate dice in combat but your sheet should tell you which ones for the most part. I'll probably do a brief combat tutorial when that crops up anyway since even the veterans will want to know about the differences compared to D&D proper. This is probably a good time to explain Conspiracy since it doesn't have the most obvious applications. Basically Conspiracy is there to determine whether or not you know things about people, places, organizations or events. So, current situation, somebody could theoretically roll a Conspiracy check if they think their character might have heard somehow what it is that a post office actually was.
2) You can be a pony wizard that calls herself that I guess I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |

Stupid question time: how do doors work? Like, when I approach a door, do I have to roll or something to see if it's locked? We already know the windows are shattered, so I could just climb in the window, but then folks are liable to start asking, "Why does Skittles never use the door?"
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I guess that's really my fault for not describing. In future I'll make a point to mention what sorts of doors things have, whether they're open/closed/ajar/locked etc.
(Conveniently the Bobcat dealership has glass doors and they're busted up too.) V Why do you have to ruin everything beautiful Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()

Hey Pang, let me know if I should also make an acrobatics or athletics check to get through the window.
Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
The idea of an amorphous blob doing anything remotely acrobatic is wonderful.

Hahaha so I guess the five of us aren't standing together after all, huh. DEATH TO THE BUGBEAR.

You know, I actually read that, but having made my post a day or so later, I totally (and unintentionally) disregarded the fact that we were supposed to have all been together. I apologize for that.

Ehh, I didn't specifically call Slim out at any point and it provided a neat character moment so it's not like any harm was done.
Besides, it's an example of player control over the narrative, which is awesome for me as GM. I didn't specifically tell you where you were, so you decided where you were. And all of you can basically extend this idea to the rest of the game. Lemme give you an example. I pointed out that there was a school adjacent to the Martial Arts Academy, and I specifically mentioned the playground equipment. But I didn't mention the flagpole. But you can reasonably assume a school will have a flagpole, and consequently if you decided to interact with the flagpole it would be perfectly all right despite the fact that I never specifically called it out. If a thing would make sense, it probably is, unless I've specifically said it isn't. Similarly, I didn't specifically say where Slim was, but it made sense enough for a bugbear with a sense of style to make his home inside a construction equipment dealership. And it explains where he got his infinitely-regenerating microwave: the break room, which, again, surely exists despite not being specifically mentioned. Apologies to any of you to whom this is old hat but some players need to be encouraged to go ahead and grab some reins. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Time to taste some of this flavory equipment.
Stonum carries with him a Genuine Blunderbuss, which he found in a ruined museum at some point. Since junk isn't too hard to find in these parts, he can quickly pitch together a load of metal-fuck-your-face, which has saved his dimly green-tinted skin more than a few times. To protect himself from those who would harvest his inner organs to power their electrical contraptions, Stonum has collected bits and pieces of out-of-commission automatons he has found to fashion himself an I am a robot hear me BZZT! coat of armor. Finally, a shield fashioned from a heavy plate of slagged pig iron serves to fend off blows from the little green man's enemies. The Tower Shield of Slag has proven surprisingly resilient over the years, with its blueish green surface giving a bit of flair to the dwarf in combat as an added bonus. Yum. Yes! That's what I was going for! I saw Skittles and the Dr interacting, but hadn't gotten a chance to do or say anything before they went ahead and entered the dealership, so I decided that would be a good point to 'enter' the story. I'm glad it worked out, even my roll was pretty much a complete fail, heh.

First thing: I don't remember if I'm allowed to make two checks as I did in my latest post.
Second: I'm not entirely sure WHAT abilities these two rolls pertain to, so I left them open. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Rolling to see if you know or remember something is Conspiracy. I don't think being lucky is a skill at all!

Not that Squeeze would want to do this or anything, but are there grab/grapple/wrestling rules for combat in Gamma World?
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
It's beginning to sound like that's the only thing Squeeze does want to do.
