BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5) Very smooth synth with a decent melody and a nice overall sound.
Brandish 2: The Planet Buster (SNES Game Rip) - Nucleus It's definitely got a nice jazzy swagger to it, but the melody lacks the chops to bust an asteroid, let alone a planet. Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star Is that title an Alien reference? That would make it a whole lot cooler than a mere atmospheric and passable chiptune. Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection It's sad, but is it sad seven times over? GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN Some nice parts, but it seels kind of disjointed at times. Jade Empire (Game Rip) - Dawn Star Theme It may be super-Asian, but all in the service of a really fabulous melody. Toki Tori (WiiWare Game Rip) - Bubble Barrage I really enjoyed the Toki Tori chiptunes that cropped up in the BCC or some such, so this had a high bar. The song definitely has a nice vein of quirk going on, but it lacks the pure melodic awesomeness I was hoping for. Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5 Jazzy, but it doesn't linger long afterwards. The Point Spread Dawn Star Theme - 3 pts. Snow Fox - 1 pt. Selection - 1 pt. Bubble Barrage - 1 pt. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
Nomination
Album: A Boy and His Blob Artist: Daniel Sadowski Track: Shaded Plains Track #: 6 Release: October 5 2010 Notes: There is a low-quality looped version and a high-quality unlooped version (which can't be looped due to the way it was produced). I'm providing both to let the consumer choose. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Nomination #60
Composer: Jeremy Soule Album: zOMG! The Original Soundtrack Track Title: The Village Greens Track Number: 6 Year: 2009 Catalog Number: N/A Additional Information: I am nominating a Jeremy Soule track, a Jeremy Soule track I actually enjoy. brb going to heat hell up and fix other resultant catastrophes -joyous romp to the ftp, with some prancing involved- [also orion, my 2 cents: unlooped high quality] I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Knee-jerk reaction is that this is too well known to be in SotW, but I could be wrong (BSC appearance..?). Regardless, BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5) is a solid electronica number with a fluid melodic substance and spacey tone that enhances the atmosphere rather than distracts. In my opinion it's melodically below average, but the overall package is alluring enough for me to overlook that.
Brandish 2: The Planet Buster (SNES Game Rip) - Nucleus is...weird. I dunno, but there's something about the sound that turns me off..! Even if it did exude a sense of appeal, the track is far too undeveloped to really count as a POINTS contender. REPRESENTIN'. Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star is quality, and dat arpeggio is kickin'. aww yeah I'm really sorry but Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection bores the crap out of me. The atmosphere is lacking substance too so I can't even embrace it as an ambient piece. SINCERE APOLOGY TO: nom 'sup NON. I almost always give NON the benefit of the doubt, but I'm struggling to find some good things to say about GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN. Like orion said, it is disjointed; and there's really nothing to grab onto. Intriguing in a sense, but not something I'm too excited about revisiting. Jade Empire (Game Rip) - Dawn Star Theme is passable pastoral-Asian stuff. It has a warm sound that isn't too dissimilar to some of Shimomura's light-hearted efforts. This doesn't excite me either, but the melody is undoubtedly pleasant and memorable. I will agree that Toki Tori (WiiWare Game Rip) - Bubble Barrage is ultra light on the melody side of things, but the entertaining development of the bubbly synth leads and the way they conjure a truly aquatic vibe grabs me every time. Fun, unpretentious and relaxing. =) Also that strings finish is gorgeous, I just wish they had an organic end. oh god, I played this game so much when I was a kid. I can't say I remember Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5, nor is it one of my favourites from the game rip ("Canyon 2" <3), but it's still some agreeable "Christmas shopping mall" muzak. EXCITE ME MORE, POINTS 3 points: Toki Tori (WiiWare Game Rip) - Bubble Barrage 1 point: Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star 1 point: BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5) 1 point: Jade Empire (Game Rip) - Dawn Star Theme 5th: Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5 6th: GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN 7th: Brandish 2: The Planet Buster (SNES Game Rip) - Nucleus 8th: Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection I found this week consistently underwhelming. =( So for that reason, I'm nombias'ing it up. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
(2 points) BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5)
(2 points) Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection (1 point) Jade Empire (Game Rip) - Dawn Star Theme (1 point) Brandish 2: The Planet Buster (SNES Game Rip) - Nucleus FELIPE NO |
2 points: Snow Fox (Stage 5)
2 points: Lucky Star 2 points: FIGHTERS OF PAIN just missed: Selection, Dawn Star Theme Great week. FIGHTERS OF PAIN deserves points if only for that insane melody at 0:44. How the hell is the human brain capable of something like that. Snow Fox is one of the main reasons for my completely logical Stage 5 bias. Deserves more points than I'm giving it. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
2 points: BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5)
2 points: Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star 2 points: GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN this rules, how am I not giving this points: Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5 I love FIGHTERS OF PAIN because it starts off with tons of energy and a melody designed for ass kicking, befitting the scene in the game where you jump out of a window on the second floor of a burning building and cut your way through a bunch of guards, and then at 0:44 fifteen realities collapse into a patented NON vortex of musical artistry, artisanry, and insanity. Actually, all the tracks I gave points to deserve three points apiece, but unfortunately that's not really possible. Bubble Barrage is the final world theme, so you hear it for HOURS AND HOURS ON END I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PUZZLE FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT WHY IS THIS GAME SO HARD AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH game rules so much and oh yeah track's alright (I like the GBC theme more though) P.S. VOTE (also nominate) How ya doing, buddy? |
Here goes a nomination. It looks like I won't have the time to vote for anything this week:
Album: Ridge Racer Revolution gamerip (for some reason they didn't publish it http://vgmdb.net/album/570 Artist: Hiroshi Okubo Disc #: 1 (of 1) Track #: 3 Track Title: Welcome to the ridge racer // Opening Attract Source: Galbadia hotel ^^U Add info: Yep, the track ends this abruptly in the game too and other rips I heard in youtube. File uploaded to the server already. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Quick votes:
(2 points) Toki Tori (WiiWare Game Rip) - Bubble Barrage (2 points) Gauntlet - Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection (1 point) Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5 (1 point) BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5) Galactic Pinball and Brandish 2 nearly got points. While I can be rather fond of Chinese music, I've always had trouble appreciating the tunes from Jade Empire, for reasons some might find irrational. "Dawn Star Theme" is one of the better tracks I can recall. But even then, it doesn't quite click with me nor make sense at times. To me, at least. Despite the use of oriental instruments and some musical elements, I keep getting bugged by how it doesn't seem very Chinese to me. More so since the setting of the game is oriental. Several parts sound more like they should be in a game set in the West than in the Middle Kingdom. It's almost as if the Chinese instruments were put in as an after thought. They could be easily replaced by Western instruments and I would probably have enjoyed the track much more if that had been the case. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
I think therefore I am... I think.

3 points - BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5)
2 points - Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star 1 point - GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN All good tracks this week, but my top two picks are sure. I wish "Lucky Star" was more developed, but it still sounds great. No Internet at my new home yet, so no new nomination from me. I'll get to it when I can. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

On another note, I think I'll make the good sounding and short version of my nom the main one, with the crappier sounding but longer version going in the extras folder. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |

Voting is VIRTUAL BOY REPRESENT and nominations are VIRTUAL BOY REPRESENT!
1). [21] BORDER DOWN -Sound Tracks- - Snow Fox (stage 5) 2). [9/6] Galactic Pinball (Game Rip) - Lucky Star 3). [9/5] GUARDIAN HEROES - FIGHTERS OF PAIN 4). [8] Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows (Game Rip) - Selection 5). [7] Toki Tori (WiiWare Game Rip) - Bubble Barrage 6). [5] Jade Empire (Game Rip) - Dawn Star Theme 7). [4] Brandish 2: The Planet Buster (SNES Game Rip) - Nucleus 8). [3] Wacky Races (PSX Game Rip) - Chilly Thrills 5 Low votes can lead to questionable results, but, uh, I don't think anyone is going to be contesting that winner. Maybe the other results, I'm as shocked as anyone that FIGHTERS OF PAIN made it. (which is to say not shocked at all, because NON rules hardcore) Also, after seeing the results, I haven't felt this bad about not giving a track points in a while. Chilly Thrills 5 was seriously awesome guys, come on ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() FELIPE NO |
