I can't believe I'm actually pleased to see a week where one of my nominations didn't have room to make it in. Good job stocking the queue, nominators. =}

#modarchive Story 2: Operator Status (Game Rip) - Nifflas Forest Music 1 Has a neat, vaguely Twin Peaks atmosphere to it. A little bit more cohesion and a stronger central melody would have made it incredible.

Legend of the Ancient Sword (Game Rip) - The Phoenix Calls Yao Mountain These Okami-esque songs don't do much for me, though by staying safely on the more epic and harmonic side of things this piece makes a decent impression.

LOSTMAGIC - Run Like the Wind -feel fresh- (Windmill Plains) Nice sense of movement and energy here, combined with an almost Kikuta-esque bass line. Very nice.

Shin Samurai Spirits Haohmaru Jigokuhen Arrange Sound Trax - Path of Men (Haohmaru) Everything I said about Phoenix Calls, except replace epic and harmonic with percussive and (sorry nominator) boring.

The King of Fighters 2000 Arrange Sound Trax - Will Good melodic, rhythmic stuff all around. Every time I think I've got KoF music figured out, I swear it throws me another curveball.

Tron 2.0 (Game Rip) - Cruiser - Combat It's not Daft Punk, but still delivers solidly on the all-out electronic action front. I especially like the synth voices and the jagged electronic "brass" which gives the piece a really neat flow.

Twintris (Game Rip) - We're the Devils You certainly are

Zooo (GBA Game Rip) - Game Mode 3 Hearty, old-fashioned melodic chiptune just like Grandma used to make. Could have used a bit of trimming though (are 27 loops really necessary?).

Great week. Point allocation was hard, and I smell back-to-back last place finishes for myself.

(3 point) LOSTMAGIC - Run Like the Wind -feel fresh- (Windmill Plains): I'm feeling a little Iwadare here, but more melodic and overall appealing. I'll always gobble this stuff up.

(2 points) Tron 2.0 (Game Rip) - Cruiser - Combat: There's one synth in there that sounds distractingly choppy and underpowered. Much to my surprise though, the rest of this track is so strong that it (positively) overshadows it. Great future/orchestral fusion stuff here.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I dig the atmosphere conjured in #modarchive Story 2: Operator Status (Game Rip) - Nifflas Forest Music 1, and there are some neat instrumental features (such as some guitarin') in the background which keep me interested. Melodically it's fairly weak and the prominence of the melodic lead damages the atmosphere of an otherwise serene piece. Still, this is solid forest music, and OK VGM.

aww crap, asia. Like orion, I'm audioracist when it comes to (typical) Asian music, but thankfully Legend of the Ancient Sword (Game Rip) - The Phoenix Calls Yao Mountain has a refreshing orchestral accompaniment which takes main stage alongside the restrained asiaflute. However even with this, the track doesn't impress me and is static more often than it is dynamic. Epic needs more epic.

INSTA-MELODIC FUN. LOSTMAGIC - Run Like the Wind -feel fresh- (Windmill Plains) is an insanely enjoyable go-to track whenever you feel like something upbeat, refreshing and cheerful. It's got a sense of maturity too with some smartly placed piano sections and a coherent structure. Also that melody, dayum. Norihiro Furukawa = super cool.

aww shit, asia. I'm actually a fan of fast-played shamisen, so Shin Samurai Spirits Haohmaru Jigokuhen Arrange Sound Trax - Path of Men (Haohmaru) definitely appeals to me in that respect. My appreciation of the instrument only goes so far though, and I was really begging for this track to change things up a bit. The percussion helps, but it still gets bogged down towards the end.

0:21 got me excited. Then the slap bass got me even more excited. I'm not as big a fan of the melodic synth lead that follows, but everything else is fun; and I'm an absolutely sucker for slap bass so that alone gets points. As The King of Fighters 2000 Arrange Sound Trax - Will and a couple of other SotW entrants have shown, The King of Fighters series seems to have some good, diverse sounds..

Sorry orion, I'm really not a fan of Tron 2.0 (Game Rip) - Cruiser - Combat. The sound seems a tad off [subjective criticism] and the faux-orchestra really sticks out as being, well, fake. Things become a bit too hectic and confusing for my simple mind! (but hey, at least it isn't asia, amirite)

Twintris (Game Rip) - We're the Devils is like the Cheetah Men II theme but not as good. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy it and the retro melodies it sports. Actually I don't really have anything bad to say about this. Please forget this comment.

For some reason I love Zooo (GBA Game Rip) - Game Mode 3. The sound is so distinctly 'i am in a zoo', it's great. And for another reason I find the melody extremely catchy. 5 minutes of MUSIC BLISS, almost.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Will - Bright and upbeat with a catchy melody, but it feels very lightweight. Not sure what the muted vocals are supposed to be achieving, either, unless it's to remind me of Burning Rangers. "To the next phase and to a next stage" [1]

Nifflas Forest Music - Moody, relaxing, wistful and nostalgic. I want to be in that forest now -sigh- [2]

We're the Devils - I'm a sucker for a good melody, and here is one of the best I've heard. It doesn't remain samey all the way, but rather has different key parts interlaced together, each played with different instrumentation and swapped in and out in a kind of melodic baton-passing. In this way the song remains interesting for its 6+ minute length without looping once. [3]
