Good program to rip .mp4
Hi there,
I bought a 16 GB SDHC Micro SD card today for my HTC Hero. What I'm wondering. Does anyone know any good software/tutorial how to rip .vob, .avi, whatever... to .mp4 high quality? Android OS doesn't support any other format than .mp4 which sucks! I tried to googling around, but I don't know which sources I should depend on/trust most out of it! Time is essence! Help would be great guys! Thanks a lot! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
meGUI! With Avisynth!
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Thanks for the info, but care to share any tutorial for it?

MeGUI H.264 Conversion Guide | Articles - Digital Digest
MeGUI's been patched, so go to http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=151159 for the update servers. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Hey! Thanks you very much for your help! I appreciate it! I will start and take a look right away!
Thanks a lot! I was speaking idiomatically. |
You know what, let's forget about meGUI for the meantime. It's an intermediate tool and needs a fair bit of tweaking. It's powerful, yes, but you have to invest some time to learn it (for example, typing "meGUI tutorial" into Google).
![]() You will probably get better results with it, but considering you want to watch video on a mobile phone, I think portability, not quality, is your goal here. So why don't you just go with Videora HTC Hero Converter - Free HTC Hero Video Converter instead (I don't use it so I can't help you any further) What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Hey! Thanks for the link Zerg. Actually I want quality and portability. I have tried to use another program few days ago, and it end up not so good quality.
Anyway, I could always give the HTC Hero Converter a try. Edit: I tried the program, and it's very good! All I actually wanted was the video quality to be much more smoother than my previous program! Thanks for the link Zerg! Thanks a lot! Edit: I found the program is very good with video quality, but the sound quality lack from the original file. It sounds like it's more "muted" or something like that. Is there any other programs you know which I can convert the .vob to .mp4 without touching the original sound from the .vob file? FELIPE NO |
Have you looked in that HTC software to see if there's any sort of audio settings to be played with? There might be options like having the audio be stereo/mono or something like that you can tweak.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Well, I have, but I can't actually manually tweak anything, but I will just give you a screenshot.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Why don't you upload one of the files you converted, so we can take a look see?
How ya doing, buddy? |
Sure, I can do that.
Here is the original file: Download 05 - Mother.VOB from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way The converted: Download Mother converted.mp4 from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way The original file from the video. You can hear the acoustic sound much more clearly than the converted. It sounds like "damped" This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The conversion to AAC does make it sound a tad muddy.
But, that's really to be expected since we're dealing with compression. However, let me play around with MeGUI and see if I can't improve on it! How ya doing, buddy? |
This is from the official website:
MP3, AAC(AAC, AAC+, AAC-LC), AMR-NB, WAV, MIDI and Windows Media® Audio 9. Incase you are wondering about the video format it supports: MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 og Windows Media® Video 9 I was speaking idiomatically. |
I basically ripped the audio and encoded with LAME to MP3 format.
I didn't change the video, other than remuxing it with the MP3 file instead of the AAC. Tell me how it sounds in your end. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Hey Zerg,
Thank you for your help! Actually. How do you fix the audio stuff? I need the video to be .mp4, because I'm going to put it on my phone. The file I sent to you was only one video though. I have many videos I want to put in my phone. Do you know any other possiblites way to convert the .vob files to .mp4 without touching the audio quality, and I don't really need to work so much for fixing meGui and stuff like that? The video quality could be a bit lower. Doesn't really matter so much as long it doesn't looks like very poor ripped, or VHS quality for 10 years back or something. It's just I'm really fastidious about sound quality. FELIPE NO |
You have to convert the audio, because it's originally in a format not supported by your phone (LPCM). If you really want to keep quality untouched then you use a lossless format supported by your phone, like WAV. But the WAV alone will be somewhere near 50 MB.
I realize that you have more stuff to convert, so I would like to try something first on one file. If it works, then I can go about pontificating you on how to use meGUI. Before I can teach you to fish, I have to teach myself to fish properly first! It's not really a case of "working hard on fixing meGUI" and stuff like that. The video quality looks good enough, it's just the audio that needs fixing. You can do that with meGUI too. It's not really "click and wait" though. You will have to do more things. But if it works, it works, eh? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Ah, right I understand.
Yeah, I can wait for the results you are doing. Well, I was thinking if there was a way like "click and wait" without so much work, it would be very good! but unfortunately no. Doesn't matter though... I can wait for your instruction how to use meGUI. Thank you for your support Zerg! Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'm done, basically. It's just that my ISP's connection to my web host is so fricking slow, I'm getting like a 5kb/s upload
![]() ![]() No discernable difference, right? Right side is my own encode with meGUI. It's about 2 MB larger than your file. Anyway, check if that file I uploaded is acceptable (and will play on your phone). If yes, then we're ready to educate you! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Thank you for uploading the screenshot! No, I can't see any differences according from the pictures, but the video quality is from the file which is originally converted by me, right? How is the differences between .vob and your own encode?
By the way, I can't download the link you provided: [url]http://www.nodude.com/animu/Mother converted (MP3).mp4 When I click on it, it comes up with a video and is playing for 5 sec. Suddenly it just hangs up! This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Did you save the file or did it just start playing from the browser? You should save the file.
If you saved it to your hard disk, what is the size of the file? It should be 25.7 MB in size. If not then clear your cache and try again. Additional Spam: Also, it's not important to compare it from the VOB. It is resized, after all. Can't really compare apples and small apples, right? How ya doing, buddy?

Well, I tried to right click and save, but it doesn't come up with any message could give me a solution to save the video or not. From my browser, all I see is the link with address. Nothing blue writing, if you know what I am saying.
Edit. Nevermind, it works now! I will try to check the video on my phone now. Just give me some few minutes. Edit: Alright. The sound quality is PERFECT! It's a little bit less better than the .vob original file, but doesn't really matter. I transfered the file to my phone, but nothing comes up on the video. Perhaps you didn't resize the video anything greater than 480x320. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I hope you're not using Internet Explorer. Are you?
Well, I didn't really touch the video. The video in that file basically comes from the one you converted - I just changed the sound to MP3, is all. You'll notice the file's a bit smaller than yours, that's due to the sound. If your player doesn't show video from my file, but it could from your file, then there must be something wrong with the way I muxed sound and video. Curious. Needs further investigation. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Hehe, just Firefox. IE is really crap.
Strange indeed. If you could just please take your time a bit to investigate. It would be very much appreciated! What about the original file I sent to you? You could try to convert to .mp4 and resize 480x320.. The Audio quality could be the same like you did last time. Thanks a lot! FELIPE NO |
480x320 is a non-standard resolution and will break the aspect ratio. Does the video you converted, the one with the muddy sound, work on your phone?
As far as the investigation is concerned, I don't have the phone. You will have to do the investigatin'! First, download this file (5,448,960 bytes) Second, install MeGUI and update it to full (version 0.3.4.12 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE SERVER) Third, post here for further instructions. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah, the video with muddy sound did work on my phone.
I'm done with downloading MeGUI, installed it + update everything. Still waiting for your further instruction. Most amazing jew boots |
