Droid vs Droid Eris

Hey everyone, I've been looking around for a new phone, and I stumbled upon these two, the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris, and I was wondering if anyone here owns one/used one? I've played around with the Eris, and while I liked the sleek interface, I've heard that the Droid has a more powerful system (though the interface is less stylish than that of the Eris). I saw some pictures online of the Droid's interface though, and I honestly didn't think it looked that bad, but then again, they are only pictures - I haven't seen the actual phone in play. My biggest concern though, is the sensitivity of the Droid's physical QWERTY keyboard. After playing with the Eris for a while, I found the virtual keyboard rather irritating in that typing accuracy was traded in order to make the keyboard fit. I was hoping, could anyone here provide some insight as to which phone might be better (particularly regarding the typing functions)? Thank you!

Frankly, only you would know the "right" answers to your questions, since other people may have opinions that differ from yours.

My recommendation is for you to get up close and personal with both phones, and decide for yourself.

Go with the physical keyboard. If you think playing with a virtual one is annoying for 5 minutes, try doing it for 6 months.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'd agree and go with the physical keyboard, the touch screen are crazy hard for me to type on b/c I got retard thumbs. I also like the square edged version so it stands straight up in your pocket.

I was recently purchased the Droid for work and personal use. While I'm still getting to know it I can note what raised some flags for me.

I've gotten use to the virtual keyboard but I seem to trade off between the two. The physical keyboard is a bit tough for me because its pretty flat and so sometimes I end up fat fingering another key. I found myself to be a bit faster typing on the virtual keyboard.

There is a concern for me with MMS. My phone only allows you to send pictures, text and a voice recording to others via MMS. I cannot send custom mp3s that I may have used for ringtones. You can receive them but sending is an issue. Although you can go to the Marketplace and download an app called Handcent and it'll allow it. Wait for it... Its limited on the size you can send. so far I couldn't send a soundbite that is 90k in size. I think that was a crock cause my previous phone was a Motorola Q9c and I was able to send 3-5 megs. I called Verizon and they said its an issue with Google that maybe some day they'll "patch" that. Lastly in concern with that app, ever since I installed it, I was told from people I text that they get it 2 or 3 times. (There may be a patch for that app too coming out).

Two other issues: You can customize your ringtones by moving your mp3s to your sd card but I couldn't find a way to change my tone for email and text. I had to use a program called RingDroid.

The other day told my friend told me that the Droid makes my voice sound deeper and on my end sometimes there is a little reverb sound when calling people. It really doesn't distract me from talking on the phone though.

Other than that...Its a really good phone. Don't get me wrong about my nit picking...I love it way better than the Q9c. My friend has a Iphone said its smoother and faster than his Iphone. I find that I spend a lot of time testing and playing with appz in the marketplace.
