You say this as though Nintendo needs saving.
I'm saying it as if I believe that the current generaton of hardware they offer will not support them indefinitely, like I said in my earlier post which Lukage was quoting. I don't see the Wii generating anything like the software sales needed to support the company and pretty much every company needs saving at the moment. Game studios are being shut down all over the place, Sony are concerned that they're going to start losing money, there are job cuts in the studios that are staying open. Hell, a client of ours used to be head of Criterion until last year and he reckons EA are on the brink of going bust, nobody's safe at the moment.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The only "safe" people are those at Activision who refuse to make new games. They dropped Ghostbusters because there weren't going to be sequels. Free money for Atari. Sony's only concern is specifically in their gaming division. Simply owning the format Blu Ray will yield plenty of profits.

Anybody tried out the Resident evil demo? Does it carry online like the xbox version, if it does we must try it out. Maybe then I might consider buying it day 1

I've only tried out the single player so far, but it does have both online co-op and split screen co-op (I honestly wasn't even sure if this was in the game or not, but now that I know it is I'm more tempted to get it at launch so I can play it with my sister) in the demo as well.

The game's alright. It doesn't look boring but I'm sure the full game is much better.

I just got through playing the first stage with my sister and holy shit that was the most co-op fun I've had in ages. The A.I. doesn't compare at all to having a real person, and with as much as this game depends on co-op you'd be stupid not to play with a real person. I've heard some people complain about the split screen, but me and my sister had no problem on my 27-inch non-HDTV so I don't see what the problem is.

After playing the demo, this just turned into a day one purchase for me. Now the only problem is getting through RE4 before this one comes out (I wasn't that big a fan of it beforehand, but after playing RE5 I don't know if I can go back).

I tried the demo online and couldn't get another person for co-op. Otherwise looks like a new RE4 with curb-stomping.

Yeah it pretty much is RE4 with better graphics. I was used to the mgs4 controls so I tried to shoot while walking without thinking.
I played with a person who knew what he was doing and it was pretty fun. Then I played a second time with a person who had no clue and got me killed right away.
Although it seems like we can't send invites through the demo, we just have to connect through any random person.

Not sure if I'll buy this day one, I'll eventually get it but by the time that happens everyone will have stopped playing co-op which won't necessarily be a bad thing since re5 is suppose to be a single player experience like RE4 unless the entire game will be co-op which kinda kills the "horror" experience and turns it into just another slow action game

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Sony really do need to sort out an invite system for games, it's something I sorely miss from Xbox whenever I even think about playing with a mate (something I've hardly done because I tend to get games for the 360 just because I know it'll be doable without a massive headache).

I haven't tried it myself, but I heard you can send invites. You have to do it through the XMB though, which is why it may not be that obvious.

Ah I see, Not sure how I missed it. You're suppose to set the co-cop settings as "partner" then host a game and invite by going into the XMB like you said

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The whole game is playable co-op apparently, so I suppose Sheva is always with you or not too far.

So, Noby Noby Boy has been out since thursday. Anyone got it?
For those of you not familiar with it, it's made by Keita Takahashi (or something like that), the madman creator of Katamari Damacy.
It's not really a game, as there's no challenge, no objectives or anything like that. You just have to stretch the dog creature and make a similar (but gigantic) dog in space grow. And it's only 3€ or 5 dollars.

And not only that, the game supports XBM photograhing, video grabbing and uploading to YouTube and custom soundtrack. What's not to like?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yeah, I just tried it out yesterday, and it's definitely a fun little toy. People who like some structure in their games may not dig this, but it's definitely fun to just play around with. And it definitely has that same quirky Katamari feel, so if you're a fan of that game's style then you'll probably at least enjoy the presentation of this game.

Has anybody installed some version of linux on their console at all? I heard that there are a couple of emulators out that work fairly decent now, but I guess I just haven’t been paying very good attention to the whole PS3 homebrew scene and don’t know too much about it.

I just installed a 320gb hard drive, and wouldn’t mind playing some old school games on the big screen with a wireless controller…

A new reason to return to Warhawk is on the way, Nevermind, it's Resistance 2 DLC, in both free and paid-for packages:

Quote:
Sony has revealed that yet more downloadable content is on the way for PS3 exclusive Resistance 2.

First up is some free stuff, including what they're calling Meltdown 2.0 mode. It'll offer players a lot more freedom of choice as they fight for control of the maps, apparently. It will be supported on "most of our larger maps".

There's also a new co-op mode called Superhuman, which is designed "for more seasoned players". Expect higher grey tech and XP awards. Less skilled players can join in too - in fact, their more experienced friends can level them up. There will be more difficult challenges to face when you're in Superhuman mode, naturally.

For those who don't mind paying for their DLC there's the Aftermath pack. It contains three new maps, all of which are described as "smaller and more intimate" than the kind you might be used to. The pack will cost USD 5.99, with no word on a European price just yet.

Insomniac is also releasing six new skins. These will include one of Rachel Parker and one of a Ravager. Some of the skins will be customisable, and each one will be priced at USD 0.99.

The second part of that story is actually talking about the new Resistance 2 map pack (which you will have to pay for), so I guess that means maybe all the Warhawk stuff might be free. Either way, it sounds interesting, so I can't wait to hear more details about it.

Seems Eurogamer got a little confused, the whole lot is about new Resistance 2 DLC, including the free stuff. Which does make a lot more sense with talk of grey tech, and the whole Insomniac name-drop. Shame, some free DLC for Warhawk would have been ace.

Aw, well that's lame. I had only heard about the map pack for Resistance 2, so I guess the free stuff is still good news, but like you I would have preferred some more stuff for Warhawk.

Speaking on Warhawk though, I wonder what are their future plans for it now that Dylan Jobe and a few other Incognito staff members have left to form their own studio. From everything I've read he seemed to be the driving force behind the game, but I think Incognito is still a competent enough studio to get things done even without him.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Rumour time: FFVII could be heading to the PSN as a PSOne download, as it's just hit the Japanese PSN store apparently:

Quote:
Sony has released classic PSone game Final Fantasy VII for download via the PlayStation Network.

It's only available on the Japanese PSN, mind, and is priced at JPY 1500. That's just over a tenner in the Queen's money or around EUR 11.

I'm pretty sure you can pick that up for less than a tenner on eBay and who on Earth doesn't already have a copy of FFVII anyway?

An HD update or a PSP version I could understand but a straight re-release seems pretty pointless to me.

All the PSOne Classics games can be loaded onto a PSP to be played. So essentially it is a PSP version. Just one you can play on PS3 and/or PSP. I believe that's how it works (I've not looked into it greatly).

Gosh, I had no idea it was so expensive these days. I found a copy using Google shopping for £15 but if it's selling for so much in America I can understand the re-release I guess.

Still, I'd rather have a PSP version.

Having done a little bit of reading, it seems that it is as simple as copying the files onto the PSP's memory stick, or downloading through the PSP's own PSN store. So this is, in effect, a PSP version.
