When did Boba Fett ever come back? And I don't think books count.

I will admit Wesker did get his ass handed to him in RE1 very lamely, but he's been awesome since Code Veronica (except that he got hit once and ran like a bitch... but we can overlook that!)

I guess to clarify, I mean I hope he doesn't get fucked over... by a blind guy holding a stick...

Based on what we've seen from Wesker so far, he will be awesome in this game.

Spoiler:
Seemingly he is the last boss, so there is a chance that he will end up dying. After watching him bitchslap Chris around in almost every encounter they had...I hope they can at least give him a good send off. If Jill shows up and tosses Chris a rocket launcher in which he fires it in a way that is replayed 3 times from 3 different camera angles...well I wont be pleased.

I know wikipedia's not a very good source, but it says it's in the "Star Wars Essential Guide to Characters." And in the commentary on the 2004 DVD release for RotJ, George Lucas himself said he considered adding a shot where he escapes the Sarlaac pit, but that scene was supposed to focus on Jabba's death, and that would take away from it. So if Lucas is cool with it, I'd say the books count.

But I don't want to derail the thread with a Star Wars discussion, so I'll leave it at that.

The Guide to Characters does say that, but it also sticks to the books' origin story for Fett that Lucas tossed out completely in the prequels. I think it's pretty well agreed that Fett managed to escape the Sarlaac in one way or another, though.

Yes, I am nerdy enough to have that guidebook on a nearby shelf. Right next to my D&D manuals.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

In what is destined to be the first genuinely epic game of 2009, Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind, with the game's producer, Jun Takeuchi, assuring us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6. That's not to suggest that there's anything wrong with the evil at hand. Quite the opposite; it's awesome fun, and we've beaten the game from beginning to end, and have a week's worth of detailed, insider info for you to enjoy. Check out our exclusive interview, videos of unseen levels, and our final hands-on preview to see if Capcom's controversial new survival-horror game lives up to its legacy.

I don't expect they'll be changing the gameplay much seeing as the modern over-the-shoulder-shooter style has worked so well for them thusfar. I wouldn't be too irritated at a storyline reboot; it'd certainly save the series from getting more convoluted and ridiculous than it already is.

A storyline reboot wouldn't bother me at all since I only started playing the series at RE4. I'd imagine I'm not the only one who picked up the series once that terrible old control scheme had been tossed out, so beginning a new story could be beneficial.

Game was leaked early, saw some gameplay footage of later stuff I haven't seen. Looks amazing so far, although it is a far cry from what I believe to be the best game this year. Still will be a valid purchase for me.

For those interested...

I have the game, I'm a couple hours into it. Co - op is fun. But there are little things that annoy me.

-Very minor details below-

If you have a full inventory and you see an herb on the ground, you can't just use it. The AI for Shiva kinda gets in the way sometimes.

The devil dogs are back from RE4 and they are tough. No merchant, you have another purchase system.

Very similar to RE4, I just wish this had the motion sensor wii controls.

So Gamestop is doing a special offer where you can trade in two games and get this for $19.99.

I've got my copy alot earlier than most people, due to a store finding a loophole for me to get it early. I've beaten normal mode once last night, with my husband on split screen, and it was alot of fun. It was shorter than RE4 due to no backtracking, and not as much bosses, but the game is overall really enjoyable.

If anyone wants to Co Op on the 360 sometime, PM me.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Most people seem to be getting it early if they want it bad enough. My GameStop friend got her copy like a week ago.

I'll be picking it up through normal channels tomorrow.

I'm surprised Capcom isn't keeping a tighter lid on this considering what a major release it is. Still, it's good to hear that it's a lot of fun despite the shorter length. Co-op should add a lot of replay value too, and considering I've played RE4 2.5 times (twice on Gamecube, halfway on Wii) I'm not overly concerned.

In my case my copy was a pre-order, and the place I ordered from evidently got things out in enough time that it turned up a day early (along with a little Chris figuring, randomly).

Bit off topic but I figure you guys would know better than anyone. I've got a US PS3 but I'm living in England. As far as I know Sony had a regionless policy on their games, but any reason I should get RE5 imported from the states as opposed to picking it up here?

Unfortunately, I think I'll be trying to tackle the split screen co-op since my friend I want to play it with doesn't have a PS3. Luckily my TV's big enough if we sit close enough to it, crane our backs, and wear our reading glasses we should be in good shape.

I figured who was under the mask from the beginning of the game, how did that take you by surprise? Also, given the nature of Las Plagas (read the files) it does make reasonable sense. That's not to say the story isn't all kinds of silly, but it fits with what you'd expect from Resident Evil.

But as far as the street date break goes, many retailers get it a week early like we did. Its just a matter of employees taking it out of the box and selling it/giving it away/stealing it.

It's not that I didn't expect it to be that person, I was just wanting someone different. I was hoping a small plot twist would have occured somewhere along the way.
- The person under the mask didn't add ANYTHING to the game. It just (in the words of Leon) Pointless and stupid.

Like Resident Evil 4, the game just starts to feel like Chaos Legion, where you get a bunch of enemies to defeat and then move on....and I fucking HATED taht game.

In ten years of waiting for some story development in Resident Evil, nothing ...NOTHING has happened that has been slightly eerie/entertaining or worth talking with your friends about to try to get them into the game.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'd take a game I want to play with friends over a game story I want to discuss with friends. The story is fine, it drives events pretty well and moves at a reasonable pace throughout. The supporting files and documents give a reasonable insight into the world they've created and seem to tie up a bunch of threads from the series.

No, it's not an amazing story, but the RE games have never had amazing stories. What they have had is great set pieces and memorable gaming moments. Who doesn't remember the dogs leaping into the hallway the first time in RE1, for example. RE5 is certainly more action orientated, but I'm really enjoying it and have been more than to go back and replay sections many times over to look for items, emblems and other stuff.

You can kill em, just takes a lot of ammo to do so (which you probably won't have a lot of at that point in the game if it's your first playthrough).
