I'd totally cry if it RRoDs once I get Saints Row 2 going on.
Quoting from more than a month ago, but this is EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. My 2nd box is currently in limbo pleading to Microsoft gods for a prompt resurrection.

From what I've been hearing, these new Avatars don't have as much customization as the Mii counterparts. Yea, that sucks. It's probably entirely too soon to ask, but has anyone heard anything about when new stuff will be getting added?

My main question is - How are the animations? Can you actually choose actions, similar to Fable/Saints Row 2, or do they just have random animations for when your person is idling? I'd love to be able to flick people off or pull a thriller move on friends in a party mode.

It's just random movements. The only things you can set are face, hair, and clothes.

I noticed on the Friends channel that you can click the right stick which makes them wave, move it left to right (as if shaking their head) to make an unhappy face, and move it up and down to make them smile.

I believe MS will be adding things over the next few months, at weekly intervals.

Or something.

Giant nerd has arrived.

Also:

Anyone else notice that slight transparency filter at the top of everyone's avatar-based gamerpics? I think they meant for it to apply on the background only, but instead it ended up doing it over the top half of everything. I went with the white background only because it made it less noticable.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I managed to make my avatar smack his face on the inside of my tv by wiggling the right stick up and down. It was pretty funny.

What? All I've ever gotten him to do is smile as I make him nod yes.

Anybody else have their box flip out on them after loading up one of the little Spotlight or Inside Event (I think that's what its called) videos? I was browsing around to kill some time and there was one on Gears that locked my shit up after playing. Extremely amusing.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I've not encountered that issue yet. The only time it's frozen on me has been when backing out having viewed someone on the new friends list, though it was only a temporary freeze eventually coming back to life.

Speaking of the new friends list, there's a thing with it I've noticed that irks me a little, purely because it makes no sense to me. When you navigate to the friends list, certainly for the first time, the new dashboard goes away and starts loading people's avatars. This isn't instantaneous and can take a few seconds, and for some reason it starts with the very end of your friends list, meaning when you have quite a few people on your list it can take some time until it eventually loads the people at the front, the online people and parties, i.e. the ones you're most interested in seeing right from the off. This strikes me as incredibly backwards. Probably shouldn't annoy me, but it does a little.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's odd. I've always had it load from the start. It does sometimes take a while to load up people's avatars though. I end up staring at name bubbles for a few minutes.

No, you're talking about the same thing as me. Next time you load your 360 and go to your friends list, look at the right most people, their Avatars will load in first, I bet you.

Ended up getting a Hori EX2 arcade stick for the 360 so that I can play fighting games and not have to suffer the 360's horrid d-pad. It's taking a little getting used to, but straight off the bat it's proving to be a better choice than the 360 pad. It's nice actually holding a direction and the character moving in it, not randomly jumping or crouching because the pad thinks I'm pressing a diagonal or some shit.

Unfortunately I'm still not that great at SSF2THDR, but slowly (very slowly) improving.

Is that the same Controller Stick that they had available for Skills Ace Combat 6 fans? Or is it that one that looks like an actual coin-slottan Arcade game?

The stick from AC6 was called the "ACE EDGE", which was really just a recolour of the FLIGHTSTICK 2, so no. It's not the same stick there.

Playing Street Fighter with a flight stick would be kinda...uhh...weird, don't you think?

OH I SEE. I thought you meant that when you went to your friend list, it would start on the far right and you'd have to move to the left. I'm retarded.

How is HD Remix online though? I played the demo and got a pretty nasty lag spike. Is it anything like what I'd heard of the first SFII iteration?

I've encountered a couple of matches where it's been laggy, but for the most part the online fights in SSF2THDR are pretty damn smooth. The only real issue with the online side of the game is the matchmaking stuff, which can be a bit painful. Trying to use the 'Quick Match' option is entirely pointless as it never seems to find any available games. But if you then go to custom match and search you'll get a big long list. However, clicking on any of these is likely to pop up a message saying the session is full or unavailable, but you get there eventually.

Player Match is usually straight, but Ranked Match is an exercise in frustration. I try not to fuck with it, since I'm not of the level to deal with the kind of bullshit involved. Getting ejected from a match in the damn lobby after the game sends you there is fucking irritating as shit. It's just not worth it.

Yeah, sorry I should have said that I was talking about ranked matches. I've not done any player match searches as I've only played with mates, like Rotor, in various player sessions, however those have been issue free by and large. The one problem I have come across in that area is that on the odd occasion the game goes a little screwy and the information at the top goes a bit wrong: you can't really see what each player has health wise, and the round win tokens show up three for each person, that sort of thing. I've also had the music cut out a couple of times in various games. It's nothing to get worried about though, and doesn't affect the online play.
