I would like to say thanks to Kairyu for helping me work out the kinks to this tournament. Kairyu suggested that the thread be officially posted sometime later today. I'm not finished with this, but I probably will be by the end of the day. But it's mostly completed. Have a look. =D
Pokemon Draft Tournament Version 0.9 Beta:
I'll probably change things around a little bit before I finalize it, but for the most part this is the way I want it to look. Feedback would be most appreciated. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
If it means anything right now, I wouldn't mind the mostly-ongoing E4 idea, but only if we kept battles down to a one or two per day basis as much as possible. It was a bit stressful the last few days of the gym battling open trying to catch everybody.
As for this drafting idea, I'm a little unsure on it. Maybe I just need more time to wait and relax after this one, I don't know. FELIPE NO ![]() ![]() |

Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Slaking can be pretty nasty, but it does take a bit more strategy to use him effectively. I wouldn't be against lowering his score a little based on his ability. Though...couldn't lowering Slaking's score open doors for debating changing scores of other Pokemon for similar reasons? Like Shedinja with only 1 HP but with a pain-in-the-rear Wonder Guard, just as an example? Most amazing jew boots ![]() ![]() |

I revised it; it's pretty much done now, and I modified the points system for the two Pokemon the above posters mentioned. However, I disagree with the poster about the two rules of switching move pools and hold items as I believe they add strategy to the game.
Pokemon Draft Tournament Version 1.0 Beta 2:
Well, I think I just got carpal tunnel syndrome... heh. At least I incorporated many, many ideas from Crash, Kairyu, and myself to make - probably - the best tournament possible for this situation. Final feedback before this goes public, at 9:00 PM, would be most appreciated. Edit: I'm also debating whether or not I should have the picture below be the 'gimmick' of the thread. ![]() Spoiler:
How ya doing, buddy?

Reason: Picture lurkings

Unless I missed it, I don't think anything was said about whether or not switching hold items were allowed. It wasn't stated either way for the gym battles until I did it between matches of my battle against Icy and then thought maybe I wasn't supposed to. I personally think it should still be fine to switch hold items between matches; sometimes certain items were the only way I could break some strategies used against me. I'm not sure about being allowed to change move pools...but I'm leaning toward no. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() ![]() |
Yeah, still leaning towards no on that. Mostly because of time constraints on certain matches. I'm honestly not gonna wait twenty minutes for someone to get Draco Meteor in that stupid resort area.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
I totally agree with being allowed to switch items between battles, so long as you have the item and didn't suddenly decide "Oh, I'm gonna go get this, hold on a few minutes." or something.
It's just the movepool idea that bothers me. I think that instead of adding 'strategy', it'll simply allow you to tailor your team to be able to pound someone else's team. If you go in with one movepool, you'll have to strategize being able to take down everyone with the same pool, adding more strategy to the tournament. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Spoiler:
Now why do you believe allowing the change of movepools will add strategy to game? I'm 99% sure this will cause headaches and lots of whining from all sides ._. I'm with Sousuke in the fact that you're not really adding more strategy to the tournament. Rather, you're removing some of it by letting everyone flip their strategies depending on who he or she is fighting. It takes strategy to work with what you have. Hold item adjustment are fine. They were allowed in the last tournament and no one made a fuss. I think I should made it more clear in the rules; sorry about that, Josiah.
I don't do prizes for these kinds of tournaments. If there weren't so many undetectable ways of cheating I probably would've added the extra incentive in the last tournament. Let's try to keep the ulterior motives to a minimum and just play for fun. FELIPE NO |

After a long discussion with Kairyu, this is probably the final version of the thread.

The 'one-use' rule for Sleep/Double Team is fair, but referring to Sleep Clause: You can only put a Pokemon to sleep once per round. That implies that Sleep can be used as many times as needed, but only allowing it to hit once.
Which is it going to be? Most amazing jew boots |

What I mean is that you can only make an opponents Pokemon sleep once per match, not round. You can use the same move over and over until one of your opponents Pokemon is sleeping. After that, you cannot use it until your next match with a a different participant. The same is implied with double team.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I feel Sleep Clause should work as such:
If a player has a Pokemon afflicted with "sleep" status, then any move by an opponent that would deliberately cause "sleep" on another of that player's Pokemon is prohibited. If the sleeping Pokemon wakes up, then sleep is a fair tactic once more. This rule does not forbid a player from putting more than one of his own Pokemon to "sleep", for example, by using Rest. This rule also does not forbid the infliction of "sleep" status by Pokemon Powers such as "Effect Spore" or "Synchronize." ---------------------------- I am also against being allowed to change movesets between matches. In practice, it would be as if a player had more than one, say, Dragonite. As the draft makes this a technical impossibility, the moveset should remain constant. As for trading Pokemon, it's an interesting wrinkle but I don't foresee if being used much, if at all. Early drafters won't want to give up their powerful Pokemon, and late drafters will only want to "trade up" for something better - which they're not going to get. It's not as though anyone will be in a situation to trade 2-for-1... Unless there's a supplemental draft round in which people may each select 2 more that can be used either as backups or as trade fodder. That is, Player A might give up his Gyarados for Player B's Forretress and Lanturn. Player A would have an extra reserve option, while Player B would gain a heavy-hitter. Could happen! A supplemental draft would make things a bit more interesting and make trades a viable prospect, but it'd also draw the draft process out a bit longer. Double-edged sword, really. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |

Bah! I already posted the thread. I would have waited longer, but I felt like Kairyu was pushing me to get this out as fast as possible.
I'll update the thread to be more specific with the sleep clause, okay? That's sort-of what I meant, only being vague in a few words instead of thoroughly explaining it. Sorry. When I said, "trade Pokemon" I didn't mean trading Pokemon that you drafted, just trading in general, I guess. I don't know the limitations of trade viva wi-fi, I thought you could only trade Pokemon so I thought, for example, someone who drafted a Dragonite would trade his Metagross to the person who drafted Metagross in return for a Dragonite. Man, our language can be so ... misconceived. It's too late for a 'supplemental draft', anyways. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Though I was beginning to like the concept of the supplemental draft, just for the scenarios it could present. Oh well, some other day. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
About my view of Sleep Clause: I thought it meant that you could use sleep [assuming it hits] only once per battle. In subsequent battles with the same opponent, your one 'use' of Sleep would be enabled again.
Crash's explanation of being able to only put one Pokemon to sleep at a time, and being able to do it again after they wake up... well, I never even considered that. Heh. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Bah, I liked the original one-line sleep clause explanation
![]() I ask because everyone seems to be interchangeably using the words battle, match and round in these tournaments. FELIPE NO |

Actually, Kairyu, a battle is equivalent to a round and three of either of these is considered a match. Yes, you can only use it once successfully per match. xD
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I remember the sleep clause phrased more like this:
"No two Pokemon on a team can be put to sleep at the same time by an opponent." This is a bit more eloquent than the current explanation. However, with your current clause, it seems a bit extreme to limit the use of sleeping move to only once per opponent, especially since we're not drafting alternates. It is your tournament to run though, so I'll shut up and sign up. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
