From what I understand, the IVs are a random number from 1-31, assigned to each stat when you catch a Pokemon. The IVs affect what element and power [I think it assigns a number from 30-70 for the attack power] Hidden Power ends up being for that Pokemon.

I was under the impression that they had another affect, though. If, for example, your Attack IV is 28, doesn't that add 28 to your attack power? [At level 100.] Or am I thinking of something else?

That's also along the lines of what I was thinking. I wouldn't think IV's are limited to one attack in the game.

Like EVs, Individual Values also have a large effect on the stats of your pokemon. However, unlike EVs, you cannot change the IVs of your pokemon. For each stat, the IV itself is a number from 0, which gives you the lowest possible stat, to 31, which gives you the highest. Stats aren't the only thing affected by IVs. The type and base power of Hidden Power is also determined by the pokemon's IVs. While you cannot change the IVs of a pokemon, you can have a large influence on what IVs a newly hatched pokemon have. When breeding, 3 of the baby pokemon's IVs are chosen completely at random. The other three IVs come from its parents. At least one comes from its father, and at least one from its mother, the third comes is randomly from either parent. After you have hatched a pokemon, you can take it to the Battle Frontier (Emerald version only). Directly north of the Pokemon Center, there is an old man that gives you an estimate of what the overall IVs are, as well as what stat the highest IV is in. If you don't have Emerald Version (or you want more accurate information) you can use an IV calculator, which compares the stats of your pokemon (you will have to level up the pokemon a bit, because IVs have a smaller impact on the stats at lower levels).

Yeah, it helped a lot. Thanks.

It seems EVs are still more important. A calc said my Gastly has an IV of 0-6. But it's only level 16, so hopefully it's more near 10-15. Unless I find someone else with a better Shiny, I might just stick with this one. 20 Points is a big difference, but it's not like having an IV of 31 is common anyway.

I'm also looking for a non-hacked Shiny Machop. If anyone has one and isn't thinking about trading it for a while, I'll probably want to give you something for it when Platinum comes out. Though I'm not sure what can evenly match that trade unless I come across another shiny.

I've wanted a (shiny) Mew too, but it seems only hacked ones are available from what I can find out. Would a hacked mew with average IVs in everything be looked down upon? I'm getting desperate.

Does TRU make older events available along with any current events they do? I'm heading to one for the Darkrai event this Saturday and thought maybe I could get a Manaphy or something too if they did.

And...not to brag (since I don't know if it's worth bragging to begin with), but is it much of a good indicator for a team if one can beat Palmer (the first time) with said team? I've managed it twice now with three from my "normal" team I've raised for the tournament, and it's only slightly quelled my fears of getting destroyed by everyone else participating.

Nah, once an event's done, it's done. So make sure you hit this Darkrai event! He comes with Spacial Rend and Roar of Time; just like the one in Japan. Nifty stuff for a Darkrai, even though only Spacial Rend would have any use in the metagame.

When I went to the Manaphy event, the place was pretty much empty. Probably because I don't think many kids actually know about the event. Unless they find out about this stuff online from friends and actually visiting Pokemon related sites, they're usually clueless.

When I got Manaphy, I literally walked in inches from the entrance, turned my game on, got the Pokemon and walked out. It doesn't really take long at all.

Then again, you do live in California. Might be different from what goes on here in Jersey.

How does it work? Like a normal pokemon trade with a trainer? Is it a download outside the game? If I'm the only one there can I take them all? XD
