Joining River City Ransom tomorrow will be Phantasy Star III: Generation of Doom for the Genesis, which according to the internet, is the weakest of the series.

This is good news because the Genesis versions of Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 are the only ones I've played. Looks like the Virtual Console might finally be getting some good games on the market.

Oooh, nice. A dark horse title! However, my roommate would crap bricks if this were Phantasy Star 4. I'm glad they aren't neglecting this series now!

JIOGFJIOJGFI)FIIJOPFJGI!!! =D

Mega Drive version of the original is a good thing, it contains an extra level over the SNES one. But it lacks the amazing lens flare in the first level! Mega Drive version of the second.. eh, not so good. BUT EARTHWORM JIM!

I think my brain just imploded.

They should have just gone with the superior Sega CD version with even better graphics and Red Book audio.
Yeah, I hope SegaMegaSega CD hits the VC one day. It's not like many of the games used a decent amount of space on the discs (loool ultra grainy FMV running in three colours), so the Wii's hilariously pissy amount of storage space wouldn't be under too much threat.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

That's a tough one. The SNES versions of Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 had way superior sound because looool Genesis is hilarious in that department ALWAYS. However, the Genesis versions boasted better graphics and more colors for some odd reason. Some say the Genesis versions had better controls but meh. They should have just gone with the superior Sega CD version with even better graphics and Red Book audio.

How interesting! I might buy it, depending on whether my Earthbound cartridge's battery has died (I'm still in Magicant after several years) and how bad it looks on my HDTV. I keep meaning to finish it, but just never seem to get around to it.

I'll definetely be grabbing Pokemon Puzzle League from the virtual console when I get home. It is actualy one of my favourite games on the N64 system and one of favourite puzzle games in general.

It's a good stand-in for the lack of Tetris Attack on the VC, so Pokemon will have to do.

Pfft. As much I want to buy Pokemon Puzzle League, I still got the physical game that my sister bought 4-5 years ago... for $10!

Now bring out Earthbound and port+translate/localize Mother 3 to the DS already Nintendo!

Damn, a Mother compilation would be cult heaven <3

I was very excited to see Pokemon Puzzle League pop up as today's VC game playing Brawl at a friend's place, but I only have 800 points >=( It's no Tetris Attack, but it's definitely a viable replacement if only for those funny shouts like "I'm Lorelei!" and "Cl-l-l-l-l-l-oyster!" At least now I can use the Classic Controller, since I was never speedy physically with the actual N64 stick/dpad.

While I love the Pokémon sounds in the game, the quotes that the people say were so very frickin' annoying that I wish the game had a speech mute button.

Ironically, I just played that game two weeks ago on my N64.

Well, there are no VC updates this week due to the debut of WiiWare in the US. WiiWare has been released with 6 games available.

Son of a bitch, I knew they would start doing this. 3 games released this week on the Wii Shop Channel, 2 on WiiWare and 1 on Virtual Console.

The virtual console game this week is SKYKID on the NES.

But Critter Round-up! Wasn't that the American-developed animal-herding puzzle game that launched with Wiiware in Japan? I thought that was supposed to be pretty good.

I'm not taking anything away from the WiiWare games, I just think it's stupid that the weekly releases went from 3 VC games (with the occasional 1 or 2), to 2 VC games, and now it's gone down to 1. I know it's only this week I'm complaining about, but the fact that they're releasing WiiWare games along with the VC games and calling that "There's your 3 games for the week" just baffles me. Once again, not taking anything away from the WiiWare games but you'd think that WiiWare would be a separate category from the Virtual Console like the Wii Channels are.

I understand there's licensing issues with some of these titles, but what is Nintendo trying to pull? All the games in Nintendo's library whether they're good or shitty, and now all they're going to do is release one VC per week? However, the only thing I can see happening with this is if the Virtual Console is a continuation on Nintendo's next-gen consoles (whenever that may be), so that's how they're making the Virtual Console last longer.

Also, I know a few weeks ago there was a string of a couple of weeks where some fan favorites got released like River City Ransom and Double Dragon, so maybe this is a drought or something.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
