Simo has already mentioned the gff clan.
I'd like to join as well since I don't have any friends with mgo or a ps3 for that matter to play with.
So count me in, i'm sure my game ID is in the front page but anyways, my Game ID is Ani_Zeke and my characters name is Anizeke

It takes some time to get used to the controls, but after that this game is definitely fun. I usually don't care for online shooters, since they're mostly first person only and too fast for my tastes, but MGO's third person with fast first person aiming is great, and the pace is just right. It's actually surprising, since gameplay has usually been the weakest component of Metal Gear Solid.

Also, after waiting about ten hours for it to update from 1.00 to 1.02, I'm glad at least the actual game has virtually no lag.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Wow. I'm trying to log on, but it won't let me? It keeps saying me user or password is invalid. I never clicked on the 'confirmation' link it sent my email when I in intially logged on. it says if i didn't do this within 72 hours then I'm fucked?

please tell me i'm just doing something wrong...god i want to try this beta .
Sorry chief but if you didn't the click the confirmation link within the 72 hours then you didn't register a Konami ID and thats probably what the problem is. You'll have to redo the signup.

someone should set up a GFF clan..
I set one up in the meantime under the name of "Team GFF" just to try out the clan options but I'm going to disband it once the 100+hours expire in favor of a different name such as "GamingForce".

I tried getting some sleep last night but ended up getting up and playing until 6am this morning.
I linked up a couple of buddies to piss around in a CQC only lobby and then Capture the KEROTEN, discovered how to do co-op moves link boosting a buddy to a higher level and being able to pick up and flip through the magazines if you come across them....

I just need to train and figure out how you CQC>Disarm an enemy which lets you take their weapon and if a teammate runs dry then you can give them that extra weapon with 1 magazine of ammo.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'm still pretty confused about CAP, it's a bit different from MGO1 isn't it?

A necessity for online play? I would not be so quick to make that pronouncement... after all, MGO is a different sort of game than, say, Team Fortress 2.
Yea that's true, maybe I've just been playing too much GRAW2 and Gears before hand.

I'm still pretty confused about CAP, it's a bit different from MGO1 isn't it?
Yea, this time the timer resets if both team has either the Gako or Kero and is at their capture. It makes for some intense matches, and some frustrating ones when people don't know what they're doing. Eg. a match I had yesterday when one of my team mates (who has the Gako) would be running towards the other teams capture in attempt to get back the Kero (I imagine this is the case), all while the other teams timer was counting down. Who then dies and the other team grabs the Gako, which then speeds the countdown. It's frustrating to play with people like them as you can't really tell if they're doing that on purpose to help their buddies on otherside, or that they just don't understand how the mode works.

BTW, Simo, can you hear me on my mic? It doesn't seem like it registers my voice when I'm speaking normally (and I got voice chat on), it's like I gotta shout into the damn thing before anything gets sent out. Haha, and I can barely make you out sometimes too, what are you using? I'm using the Bluetooth Jabra that was apart of the Warhawk bundle (which I manage to snag for the price of the download off the PSN).

Wow that updating process is seriously fucked up, "you need version 1.02; in order to get version 1.02, you need version 1.01" - they should get an Oscar for that. I had to "press PS button, leave game and restart game" for like five times because of several "network errors". Now that I am finally downloading, it seems that it will take like ten hours before the update has finished.

I could hear you fine and my headset is a Logitech one which I know works well given I'm always on COD4 and people can hear me just fine. It seems like the voice chat in general is screwed given that everybody sounds so quiet and static even when turned up to vol.10 in the options window.

Played on and off all day today and had some intense matches and not so great ones too. The SOP DESTAB is a fucking beast...that is if you can get some support given you've got to plant the thing in the enemies base and main spawn point but the effect is worth it. Also in order to disarm an enemy in CQC you need to have CQC skill mastered to lvl 3.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well after 2 days trying the beta, I like it... but it's not the best online game I have played, but it's a good one.

The controls sometime work perfectly and sometime it just doesn't work...like I'm alway laying down when I just wanted to do a roll which leave me totally open to the enemy... The camera sometime (or a lot of time) just wont go where you wanted. And I just so hate how overpowered the knife is, ex: you hit= you're stun and fall to the ground, second hit= one shot dead...

Anyway, the game is in beta and will probably only just improve from here, so it's a good thing. I'm glad that the game comes with MGS4 because I don't think I would have paid for it...

I played a little with Simo tonight, we did some wrestle match XD CQC is pretty fun, when you actually manage to grab the other person...even if the guys is in your face sometime it won't work and this is so annoying XD

Btw is Mavrickhunterx someone from GFF? I played a match with him but I'm not sure if it was someone from here.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Hmm, that's weird. Cause there have been cases where I've been able to hear others speak crystal and it's usually just you that I have trouble making. Haha, unfortunately the ones that I can hear are usally those that have TOO MUCH to yapper on about cause they're either the only one with a mic or the only one using the mic in the team.

And hell yes! Can't wait to try out that new middle east map! And of course the sneaking mode, assuming I'm good enough to able to play as Snake. That should be one interesting mode, now that they tweaked it to be blue vs red vs Snake. No doubt that the new map and mode will be available after the maintenance tonight, which'll occur at 3am to 5am PDT (there was maintenance first night of MGO as well).

My character ID is eprox1.

...

ANYWAYS.

So I finally got the chance to play the beta. I have very mixed feelings about it, but I think I liked it overall. I enjoyed aspects of the game, but there were some things that made me wonder what the hell Konami was smoking. Some things that pissed me off that I hope to god they fix -

1) Running. Can you even call it this? It seriously looks like speed walking. I think if people could move with a little more agility, the gameplay would speed up a little and the overall intensity would improve 10 fold. I swear I was 'running' for a good 3 seconds to move about what seemed like 10 feet. I'm trying to run away from three guys who are pelting me from the back, and it just looks like I'm casually trying to escape them. Looks damn weird. Which leads into my next complaint -

2) Health. Who the fuck am I, Superman? Like most people do when they encounter their first opponent in a game, they run straight into eachother, stand completely still and unload their M4 from a 5 foot distance. What normally doesn't occur is the whole process lasting for about 5 seconds before somebody actually dies.

That was literally my first encounter with somebody, and I just stood their with a blank stare on my face, asking myself if that really just happened or not. I'm sorry, but an assault rifle at pointblank would mow anybody down in no time flat. They seriously need to lower the health bars on these guys. I don't care if their pumped full of nano machines. Which also leads me into my third complaint!

3) Sound effects. Player voice sound effects, more specifically. When me and this other guy were tearing into eachother, our characters made some of the most awkward sounding grunts I have ever heard. This is almost the only thing that can be heard when running around in an intense firefight. "Ungh. Ungh. Ungh. Ungh. Ungh. AARRGHHH." They need to seriously trash the damage sound effects, or at least heavily revamp them so I won't basically cringe when I hear it and almost feel a little embarrassed when one of my roommates is watching me play.

Other than those gripes, I think I wasn't enjoying it as much because I just straight up suck at the game right now. I will run up to a guy and start slamming R1 screaming "WHY THE FUCK WON'T I CQC HIS ASS?", only to realize that I had an assault rifle equipped instead of a pistol/knife. I would love to play with some of you guys and get better, because I know the better you are at a game the more fun it can be. I know I'll like it more as I continue to play it, but I also think those changes will speed up the enjoyment process as well.

I'm curious to what improvements you guys think the game needs. What are your gripes with the game? Anything they should patch/fix/add/remove/whatever for the final release?

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I had the exact same complaints. Except for the screams since they kept it as if snake was dying from game over and I thought it was a little funny that all the characters scream like that and then you know "omg someone died!"

I also didn't enjoy the game as much but you need to train and learn the controls and then you'll have a blast because you are given so many options to take someone out.
And as for the health, thats why I use cqc now. I said before that way too many people just run into each other and use the auto target to see who falls first which I hate.
If you have an M4 or Ak or whatever you can use R1 BUT, don't just tap it. Get near an enemy and hold it, the camera will slighty move to adjust and see yourself throw your enemy then quickly aim or lock on and shoot the crap out of him. It's a much more efficient kill than just waiting to see who last the longest in direct gunfire which i just find retarted.
I know alot of online people just stood there and shot at me but I just ran in front of them and threw them into the ground and took care of them. They probably thought I'd die before I reach them but thats what rolling is for. Also hiding behind a wall is so much fun since you can rotate the camera and see the enemy run right into your trap completly oblivious. remember to use some form of stealth and you'll find yourself kicking ass. Hell I thought the boxes would be useless but there are so many scattered around the stage that it's just perfect

How ya doing, buddy?

it's funny how so few people actually check boxes. they run past me in a box and i come out and either shoot them or cqc them.

has anyone tried the scanning skill? the one where you inject a pill into the enemy after capturing them with cqc. i thought it was supposed to show the outlines of everyone else on that team, but for me it only showed the guy i just injected. and how do you choke someone after grabbing them? i tried holding R1 harder and tapping it and it doesnt seem to work

R1 is pressure sensitive so when you have someone in choke just hold down the button harder and it'll choke them out.

Today was perhaps my best time with beta thus far as everything just "clicked". Headshots didn't seem like an impossible chore and I was topping TDM results with more headshots that overall kills and thus leveled up pretty quickly. My main gripe was the targeting but taking time to learn and work with the reticle and now I'm having a major blast.

One of the key enjoyments of MGO though is tactical team work or basically a team that communicates and works well which is why I had some outstanding games this afternoon when I hooked up with a buddy (who before was kicking my ass in most TDM games and is a vet of MGO1) and I dropped down in the middle of a game on the new middle eastern map where I was pitted against my buddy but I managed to fucking kick some ass including his which led to his sarcastic remark as to whether or not it was me playing since I was doing so good. Bastard.

Speaking of the new map and such I tried out Sneaking mode while playing with MGS: TUS guys and got to play as Snake twice. Freakin' awesome stuff considering you get full use out of the OCTOCAMO which is great as well as the use of the Solid Eye and Threat Ring. Basic premise of Sneaking mode is one top player is automatically assumed the role of Snake while the rest of the players are split up into red and blue teams. Its then up to the 2 teams to defeat each other with the most kills winning, ala TDM, while trying to stop the player as Snake from capturing 3 dogtags from the enemy. So you've basically got these 2 teams going at it as you sneak your way all over the map to quietly take out whoever you can and to get those tags. One event had me just sitting there in a cardboard box waiting for the right time before some hapless dope ran by and sprang out to CQC and nab my second tag.

I think of my favorite moments with the beta came at my own expense when my buddy and I were against each other on TDM on Blood Bath. He got me in a CQC hold in the underground tunnel was choking me out when 2 of my team mates dropped down right in front of him. I thought I was saved but all he simply did was use me as human shield to pop one guy in the head with his pistol and then throw me to the ground as he ran forward to CQC the other guy and shoot him in the head before finishing off my unconcious body...

I got a chance to play as Snake and Mk II today, as well as the new map. Haha, man Mk II is pretty hilarious, just steering around going for the stealth stun. I love how both Snake and Mk II (Otacon) have their own preset messages as well, unfortunately I didn't get much time to fiddle with Snake as people kept swamping me (manage to stun, guys but people kept popping me before I could grab the tags). But what I did get do, I enjoyed and can't wait to play MGS4 even more now.

The new map is pretty sweet, especially how you can enter into the interior of the buildings, going for a steathly kill sometimes. Though at the same time these narrow spaces really hurt the view as well, making the camera real sensitive.

I'm surprised that even with GTA4 out that the traffic for the beta has still remained pretty consistent with over 1000+ players on all the servers. Finally got to try the MkII today...man its pretty cool whizzing around and using the stealth camo but its damn hard to zap someone unless they are completely still. One funny incident though had 2 guys shooting it out with one using the Stun Knife to knock the other guy out, he then knelt down to finish the job until I came up behind him as the MkII and zapped his ass out. There wasn't much else I could really do but the guy who got hit with the knife managed to wake up before his attacker and finish him.

Played a few games with Hantei too including a GamingForce specific room and Sneaking mode. I wasn't aware that having the camo index at 99% made you completely invisible to the opposition which is why I waited for Hantei and shot him in the head with the Mosin from the shadows...Of course he got his revenge the next round. The one thing I was trying to do was the hold up but seems like you've got to be pretty close in order to perfom it.

I love Midtown Maelstrom though just because it offers alot of variety in terms of weaving in out of buildings and finding strategic spots to jumping in dumpsters and waiting for an unsuspecting soldier to wander by and then capped in the head. It also looks really good and even at points the framerate jumps to a butter smooth 60fps. That and I also like the little details like the dust accumulating on the camera or screen if you stand still and then dropping when you move.

Overall I love the beta and I can't really think of too much that needs to be addressed other than possibly more skills and customisation options for your character.

Haha, man that was fun. A 1 vs Snake, greatest hunt ever. The Envg thing was really the only way I could find you, besides the beeping noise that the octocamo makes. Playing as Snake was sweet too, did you know that you actually don't need to lay down and play dead for the camo to change? If you hug the wall, or something, the camo automatically changes and you can shake the controller for it to change when you're laying down. Heh, the preset messages kinda give you a sample of the old voice as well.

Oh and Automatic Rifle Mastery lvl 3 is awesome, you get so much more headshots with it. Fast Move lvl 3 is great too, the difference in speed is pretty big. However I opted to stick with rifle mastery (+ plus enemy exposure, since it only costs 1 point regardless of level), since the frequency of my bullet's missing its target is much less. It'd be nice if they could increase the amount of skills points you have, maybe to like 6, so you can have at least two lvl 3 masterys.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah I knew that and overall OCTOCAMO is fun to mess around with. We'll we have to do more of those 1v1 matches since that was a good round so I'll lock it out with a password next time so nobody else can interrupt. All in all though it would be nice if we could get a GFF game at least once before the beta ends.

I'm almost at Asslt.Rifle lvl 3 while also using CQC lvl2 since I really want to get it to lvl 3 so I can disarm folks...

Oh and i finally got to try out snake. I sucked at it since his controls were a bit more different but I was exited so finally play as him.
Octocamo is so damn effective I wonder if the final version of Online will have an option for all players to have octocamo, that would be interesting

So I've been playing this game more and more, and find myself getting better and better, thus making it more and more enjoyable.

The game really is different than what I initially expected it to be – a fast(er) paced 3rd person shooter with stealth elements thrown into the gameplay. Ho-damn was I wrong. I didn’t like the game at all at first, but I kept hearing that you have to “give the game a chance and it will eventually grow on you.” This game is all about tactics – something I’m starting to really appreciate. Too bad 4/5’s of the people on the Beta still treat it as if they were playing CoD4. If you run into the open guns a blazin’, you’re gonna get put down.

I went on a streak yesterday where I dominated every single TDM, so much that I would consistently attain enough Drebin points to max out my M4 with all the attachments (there is no stopping me when I have my grenade launcher). It got to the point where I was carrying the team so much, that eventually my team would follow close behind me everywhere I went to see how I was doing it. We eventually got to the point where we always moved as a squad, and what do you know? We dominated 10 times harder. When we stuck together and helped each other out, we rarely died. Fucking cool.

Still – I find that this rarely happens. And it sucks, because the game is an absolute fucking blast when it does. I think I am one of the few people in the beta who uses the SOP system. Oh well, maybe people will get better as they play more. I know I still have a ways to go before I can call myself ‘really good.’

The game isn’t without its flaws, though. Don’t get me wrong on that. There are about 50 different tweaks Konami could make to make this one of the best online experiences out there. I’m very curious as to what the finalized game will be like...

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
