Craigslist, ebay, etc.
I put my old truck up on Craigslist for a fair price ($300), and I got a call within not even 5 minutes. The money was in my hands and the truck was gone within 25 minutes. I was having to block calls from other people while showing the guys the truck. People are crazy.
So I was wondering, does anybody else have any good, bad, or at least mildly amusing or interesting stories about online trading or services? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()

I just ordered something from eBay a few weeks ago! It was going to be a gift for my sister, once I had finished it.
Oops, the "warehouse" sent me the wrong item. I was saddened by this. ;_; First shitty experience on eBay, though~ There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I ordered my iPod Classic on December 10th, with my mom, as a Christmas present for myself. Granted, I knew what the present was going to be, but it was a nice one nonetheless.
I finally got it last week. D: The seller kept NOT putting his name on the shipping package, and so customs kept sending it back to him. Or something stupid like that. Also my first crappy experience with eBay; everything else has been pretty smooth. Most amazing jew boots |
We had an old bandsaw. Couple of easily fixable mechanical problems, but we just wanted it gone. Put up a listing for it for free on a couple of local classified sites including craigslist, and within half an hour we were swamped with e-mails. Guy came over with a pickup truck, took it away, and we were pleased as heck.
I've ordered a lot of stuff online; most of it has gone fine. The few troublesome packages were: * Grado RS-1 (~800 headphones I paid 500 for) shipped from Canada, took 7 weeks to get here. That was stressful and a pain dealing back and forth with the seller when neither one of us was entirely sure what was going on * CD I ordered a month ago from Amazon for $3 shipped that USPS marked as "delivered" a full 9 days before it got to my door. Still haven't figured out how the heck that happened. * Flash Drive I ordered a few weeks ago: After 6 shipping days, I PM the seller, ask what's up. No reply. Wait a day, start paypal claim. No reply. Wait 2 days, escalate Paypal claim. NO REPLY. Wait 2 more days, item shows up. STILL no reply. I was tempted to leave the claim and get my money back too but I cancelled it. That's the thing about selling online - tell my my offer's crap, fine. Tell me you just don't like me, fine. Tell me you don't know what happened, OK. But tell me SOMETHING. People who don't respond piss me off. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I like craigslist. It has some funny writings.
I was speaking idiomatically.

I bought my bike on craigslist. It's a bit of a junker but brand new road bikes are pretty pricey. The guy was a pretty cool old dude as well and gave me new tires =o
I also met a girl on craigslist. Weird, I know. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
I got screwed over on ebay once. I bought a copy of Lunar on PS for way more than it's worth. Oh well. That's the only bad experience I've had. I like ebay, though, if not for just one reason:
Cheap books for school. FELIPE NO |
I'm having a problem right now with people not responding. This is Ebay, though. I can always leave them negative feedback so I guess it's not a problem. $60 down the drain though~
How ya doing, buddy? |
Y'know, I've never even LOOKED at craigslist. Talk about behind the times huh
![]() I use Ebay and Half.com all the fuckin' time. Only had one or two bad incidents with Ebay out of probably hundreds of transactions. Jam it back in, in the dark.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

A couple years ago my dad was being a jackass so I sold his golf clubs on eBay for $500.
Also I'm not sure if many people are aware of this but there is a lot of penis on craigslist. You see the occasional breast or two but mostly peen. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
All my experiences are with half.com which is an extension of ebay. It's just that the site charges your credit card and gives the person the money to avoid a level of hassle.
1. I ordered Valkyrie Profile for PS1 from someone. You guys I'm sure know how much that goes for. After a few weeks of not recieving it I mailed the guy asking about it. I can't remember the excuse he gave me exactly, but he wasn't really being shady. few more weeks. I still haven't gotten it and suddenly he asks why I never left feedback. Then even though I had mailed him earlier, it's like it suddenly hits him that "Oh crap it got lost in the mail!" and he sends me another copy which I recieved in like a week. 2. I ordered 2 copies of the Everquest 2 Collector's Edition. The guy sent me 2 copies of the regular game. I confronted him about it and somewhat understandably he claims he didn't know. Because half.com shows a picture of the regular game and for the regular game shows box art that was never used. I sent them back and he refunded me. But sure enough, he was still selling them as Collector's Editions. 3. Only sale I ever made. I had an open copy of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade but hadn't activated it yet. But I stumbled upon a copy of the Collector's Edition. I'm sure what happened is someone who had bought several copies intending to ebay them for lots of money returned them when they wouldn't sell. So I sold my regular copy of the expansion for $20 without the box. Not a particularly interesting sale aside from the reason behind it. Because I know that's what happened. A fat guy was going around the area buying 10 copies at every store then they wouldn't sell for the jacked up prices people wanted. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Selling & buying stuff on Craigslist is great - especially furniture, other large items around the house that you wouldn't want to ship. I've sold a couple of couches and bought a nice entertainment center on the site... I just really like it because you deal with people locally. However, I tend not to buy electronics on Craigslist because there's a lot of scamming with that type of stuff.
half.com is another favorite - especially for college books, movies and music. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
