Computer being really slow - chance of hardware failure?

I've noticed that my computer has been running slow randomly since yesterday. I'm not sure how I could test it, but clicking on my computer is laggy - I get that little searching thing for a few seconds

I'm running Windows XP SP2 - haven't reformatted since the summer or early fall 2007. Task Manager is as follows:

So, does it sound like I might have a potential hardware problem on my hands or do I just need to do some cleaning up with the programs?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

spoolsv is consuming 99% of CPU time according to your task manager. Problems with the print spooler?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

network printing, perhaps?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I don't even have a printer installed, nor own one... How do I fix this?

Additional Spam:
I closed spools and now my "System Idle Process" is using 95+ of my CPU ... I clicked on some link a friend sent me via MSN Messenger before downloaded a picture, but it tried to save as a MS-DOS something or other, I chose to save it as "all files" and scanned it with NOD32 after I opened it and it said that it was clean... but I only downloaded that file this morning and the problem seems to have started yesterday.

I'm going to try restarting again.

Additional Spam:
Just restarted, opened up MS Word 2007 and Firefox and took the following screen cap

Additional Spam:
I checked out my printers... CutePDF writer, Quicken PDF writer and Send To OneNote 2007 - the OneNote printer had a job, which I deleted, and now my Task Manager seems fine as CPU Usage is 5 percent or below.

thanks guys.

You could download Server 2k3 Resource Kit and run cleanspl.exe and see if that clears up your problems. If it does not, you could always just disable the print spooler service. {start > run > type "services.msc" > find print spooler in the list > double click to see properties > click Stop > set startup type to Manual}

I was speaking idiomatically.
I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall.
