Lyra and Will essentially have sex, though not in a normal biological sense (they stroke each other's deamons).
Huh? Will doesn't have a dæmon. o_O
Spoiler:
Disregarding kitty.

Did you read The Amber Spyglass. Ever.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Yes, but it's been something like five years since then. Care to refresh my memory? Does he gain a dæmon in the third book?
If yes, then I completely forgot that.

he always had a deamon, it was just not external like Lyra's until
Spoiler:
Will and Lyra cross the River Styx, which deamons can not cross. So Lyra has to leave Pan and Will's deamon emerges there on the dock next to Pan. It winds up being a cat when they settle, so I can see the confusion between Will's deamon (i forget her name) and the cat he takes care of.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.
Totally banned this from my mind. Now that I think about it, I forgot a lot of things from the third book. But as I've just recently begun reading the first novel, I'll have that issue solved in a few weeks.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Wouldn't surprise me if anything got censored in the American version. We have such a hypocritical culture regarding freedom of speech - damned if we'll let anyone say we can't have it, but damned if we'll let anyone use it either.

Although staying on topic, the books were still awesome regardless. Still my favorite series long after I've finished them and have had the chance to read many more fantasy stories. I haven't seen the movie yet though, I heard too many fans of the book tell me parts of it hurt too badly to watch and I just have bad feelings about a movie based on Golden Compass being that short.

How ya doing, buddy?

I started reading the books just before the film came out - never finished but went to see the movie instead.

Either I was tired or really wasn't in the mood for seeing this but I found the movie a bit boring and tiresome. Dont get me wrong, I love fantasy films the like of eragon, inkheart [out soon] and Lord of the Rings. Just this film didn't seem to have any pace at all and dragged on a bit.

I will finish the book and then watch the film again for better informed decsion.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I read all the books in anticipation of the movie, because it looked so beautiful in trailers. Plus the books were recommended to me anyway.

A lot of relatives and friends were telling me I couldn't watch the movies because it was about killing God. Hi, I read the books. While it could be taken that way, it's more of a humanization of God than anything else, which doesn't really bother me like it does some people. Besides which, even with the religious slant, it's more a commentary on authoritarian organizations and governments than anything else. And the movie took out any mention of the Magisterium as a religious organization. It's simply authoritarianism.

The movie didn't meet my expectations, sadly. It didn't move well, and I think people unfamiliar with the source material would be at a bit of a loss. With its low gross, it's unlikely we'll be seeing the second and third books, which is a shame. The casting was positively brilliant. Couldn't have made better choices, I don't think. It had so much potential.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
