If you want some retribution for not being able to go. Go take a look of the pics over at Kotaku. What a saaaaaaaaaaaaad turnout.

Hahaha, wow that is pretty terrible. Is the admission fee really high or something? Hopefully this poor turn out converts to a PSN download now.

Hmm... maybe they're just saying all this now as a deception, maybe they are infact planning release a demo within a month or two of the game's release (which sucks if true, I want my demo now! especially since they got one prepared already)? I mean the previous MGS demos were within that same time frame (month or two prior) right? There may be hope yet! But yea, I don't think I'm gonna keep my hopes up for it anymore, every week I listen in in hopes of them announcing the demo's release on the PSN and been disappointed everytime.

Admission fees ranged from $90 for the whole 4 days or $50 for just 2.

Seemed like they were just hyping up E For All but when that passes who knows. Demo timeframes for the previous games had the MGS2 demo released 8 months before release and the MGS3 demo a 1-2 months via OPM before the US release. The MGS4 booth had around an hour wait mainly because only 12 people at a time were let in at 30 minute intervals for an otherwise poorly setup booth according to press.

Geez, no wonder no one went.

Whoa, haha was the MGS2 demo released that early? It was so long ago I can't remember. I do remember buying ZOE day one just so I could play the MGS2 demo (haha, which I remember spending the whole week on before finally trying out ZOE).

I do remember the 1-2 month release of the MGS3 demo, that's what I'm thinking will happen with the MGS4 assuming that Payton and the PR guy were deceiving us. Though it would be nice if they could just release the demo now since it's ready an' all. Maybe they'll release it in November, on the day that they originally intended for MGS4 to be released (which I'm assuming was the 13th or 20th, as MGS2 and MGS3 were in the same time frame/week). That'll be a nice treat, since they couldn't deliver the final product on the promised date they could give us the demo instead, to tide us over during the holidays.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Yeah it was. I mean the MGS3 demo sucked just because OPM had it timed but thinking about MGS2 and ZOE...man, brings back some fond memories though. I mean MetalGear.net was the first ever board I registered and posted at back in 2000 and I remember buying ZOE because not only did we get it before the US and Japan but this particular electronics store broke the street date by a week and so I got it extra early. Took some convincing of the MG.N boarders though...

But I mean there were so much to do in that demo that I ended up playing it for almost 8 months and still finding new details just in that small area which is why it'd be nice to get the MGS4 demo since it'd probably tide everyone over and have enough to play around with until next March.

For now though we'll just have to put up with more impressions and no doubt more videos of people playing the demo who have no idea how to play...
IGN: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Preview
Quote:
This won't be like any previous MGS4 hands-on article; whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, however, is up to you. Having watched the evolution of the Metal Gear franchise ever since the NES days, I personally have only gotten seriously into a handful of iterations. My Metal Gear knowledge goes none too far beyond what I picked up on NES, remember from Metal Gear Solid on PSX, paid attention to in the GBC remake, and tried to follow on PSP with Portable Ops. If nothing else, this preview should give non-MGS fans a look through the eyes of someone that's - admittedly - one in the same. Still, despite being a bit rusty in my MGS ways, today's playthrough captured my attention again, as Metal Gear Solid 4 is one hell of a game.

Quote:
As mentioned, the demo today harks back to the TGS version we played a while back, though it's now fully in English, and contains some stronger AI. The demo kicks off with Snake landing in a small village located in the Middle East Red Zone: Northwest Sector, responding to a recon mission based entirely on rumors that Liquid Snake is amassing an army in the city. After a quick mission briefing via codec, Snake is sent on his way, and within moments is caught up in a battle between a small resistance group and none other than Liquid's army, who rolls up in a turret-toting K-19 armored car. Troops unload, and a battle ensues.

Quote:
As for the controls, Metal Gear Solid 4 is simple and intuitive to jump into, housing nearly all of the in-game actions on triangle, with shooting handled on R1, aiming on L1, and the classic MGS drop-down menus on L2/R2 respectively. The X button makes use of the fairly mainstream standing, crouch, prone setup, having players tap to switch between a full stand and crouch, with prone only activating when holding down X for a brief moment. Between those simple controls and a few others (O allows for reload, while square switches between aim modes) you've got everything you'll need.

Quote:
After a few minutes of sneaking around (and play time ticking away) I decided to open up on a few soldiers to check out MGS4's revamped combat control. It's a huge leap in the right direction, using the same over-the-shoulder RE4-like camera, with the additional option of rocking a more classic "auto-aim" function for MGS purists. The aiming was a bit floaty at times, but for the most part it was smooth sailing as I gunned down soldier after soldier with my MP5. Once you're in the thick of it though, you won't often come back, as the ambient noise switched from a propaganda-spewing loudspeaker to one radioing for military backup. After piling up a stack of about a dozen bodies, I made a run across the street for shelter and was promptly gunned down by the K-19 car. Hey, when you're short on time you at least need to try for it, right?

Quote:
Snake Eater was a nice look back to the roots of Metal Gear, dropping players back into the wide open jungle, but there's something far more rewarding when you're creeping through monasteries, slithering on your belly as a firefight rages on all around you, or deciding to befriend local soldiers in return for support when it's most needed. Metal Gear Solid 4 blends the classic Metal Gear feel with a design not entirely removed from games like GRAW, and it's a refreshing experience to be back in the thick of battle. As far as I'm concerned, MGS4 is already shaping up to be the best Metal Gear since Solid. Take it with a grain of salt, but it's the first game in the series to really hook me in nearly a decade, and there's something to be said for that.

This isn't supposed to be a flame. After watching GT's interview with Payton (Gametrailers.com - MGS4: Guns of the Patriots - E for All 07 Interview HD) and hearing what he had to say about Blu-Ray. How it allows them to use uncompressed audio and other things that increases the quality of the game and will fill the Blu-Ray disc. I managed to find this image which gave me a good chuckle. This isn't a flame so don't you guys get upset here.

Spoiler:

Also GT has some gameplay footage of the E4A english demo. (cutscenes and codec segments have been skipped for spoiler free viewing)

Gametrailers.com - MGS4: Guns of the Patriots - E 4 All English Demo Gameplay Part 1 HD

Gametrailers.com - MGS4: Guns of the Patriots - E 4 All English Demo Gameplay Part 3 HD

Haha, I did the same thing too, I'd just be popping the disc in everyday after school. Heh, and I know I'd be doing the same thing with an MGS4 demo.

Haha, that was amusing, heh I wouldn't worry about the joke I'm sure everyone who stops by here is pro PS3 anyway (they must have been to have forked over the money for one). Seems like the only reason why they've really maxed out the blu-ray disc is because of the uncompressed audio.

Damn them for skipping the cut scenes and codec segments, if there is indeed no demo to be released then these videos are the only chance we get to exprience them prior to the game's release.

Ooo, "Arm's Tech Irving" heh, well people in the arm's industry are looking for the next good war. Neat how there's propaganda going on in the battlefield. Nice to see that the alert sound effect and exclamation mark are still intact. The ingame music is kinda disappointing though, haha then again it's pretty much non-existent.

Damn it now I really wanna play it. Why must Konami/KP deny us a demo?

Perhaps someone else already caught this, but apparently it's officially straight from Kojima's mouth at TGS that MGO that is bundeled with MGS4 will REQUIRE a FEE to play. WTF is that supposed to mean and why. But he also sais that the game will be guarenteed to be supported for a minimum of ten-years.

I was speaking idiomatically.

WTF? If it's bundled with the game, why charge a fee to play MGO? Unless he's afraid people are only going to be buying MGS4 to play the online portion. Kind of a lame move by Kojima. Unless he's planning on charging a yearly fee of a small amount or something. Isn't this the first case of an online charge for playing online with Playstation?

Well yes and no. The thing with Sony, unlike Microsoft they don't regulate the servers or anything and the developers have to run and maintain their own servers unless they pay Sony a fee to run it for them.

Therefore, since it's Kojima Productions own servers, they can charge whatever they want. The network is non-regulated.

But if I had a gun to my head and was told to guess at what I think Kojima meant. MGO will probably be on the included disc and you probably have to pay a one-time fee for server access. Where if it were on the PSN you'd have to pay and then wait for it to download to play. This way it's straight PAY -> PLAY.

However there's been no official expansion on this however.

I think I'm going to write Payton, maybe he'll elaborate on it during thursday's podcast.

UPDATE!
There, it's off. Hopefully with some luck the question will be answered on this weeks show. ^^

Fee for MGO? Man, that's so not cool. It better be just a one time thing, if it's going to be a monthly payment thing then I might have to pass on MGO.

Konami could always release two versions of this. Have one that's like $59.99 and it be just the PS3 game, and maybe one that's $69.99 which includes Metal Gear Online, where the extra $10 would be for the servers. The MGO ones will have special access codes that will enable one time use (kinda like the WoW expansion CD key can only be used once and then it's attatched to that account) so there won't be any crazy hijinx going on with fake codes.

I just hope its one time and not monthly. I already pay for two online games a month, don't want to pay for a third. :|

GT's videos were great and I'm surprised that everything was in English given I just expected it to be like past demos and just feature English text and subtitles with Japanese VA. The war propaganda was a nice touch and some of the insurgents chatter was...interesting.

"You're the man now dog!"

Still with Payton defending KP about no PSN demo I can understand some of the reasons but it's also slighty hypocritical to go on about how the demo by no means ready for public consumption via PSN and yet have the demo available 4 days straight at E For All but whatever. I'm sure we'll see a demo before the game's release, just not as soon as everyone was hoping for I guess.

Well Payton mentioned during either EP61 or 62 that he and KP was using the E4 demo as kind of a "test" see see the publics reaction to certain things that they changed in the english demo compared to the Jap one. So I'm guessing that's whay they don't want to release the demo, or at least not yet. Simply because the demo as it is now does not represent the final product.

(Still wish I knew what things he was talking about though)

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet. MGS4 delayed till Q2 2008 now!

Quote:
METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS Release Update
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 31, 2007

KONAMI announced today that "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS", the latest in the METAL GEAR series, is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of calendar year 2008.

KONAMI had initially intended to release "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS" this winter and has been working on the production of the title. KONAMI has decided to delay the title's release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.

KONAMI will continue its efforts to make "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS" meet everyone's expectations.

Further information regarding the release date will be announced as soon as possible.

Title: "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS"
Expected Release Date: the second quarter of calendar year 2008
Genre: Action
Platform: "PLAYSTATION 3"

"PLAYSTATION" is a registered trademark of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
Bleh, now I'm actually hoping the game doesn't get released till May. Cause if it's getting released in early Q2 (eg. April), then I'm gonna be screwed for my finals, as I've waited too long not to play this day one! It's kinda good to know they're doing their best to make this the perfect last game to Solid's story, though with this disappointing announcement, they better release a demo or even a beta for MGO now. I just want my taste!

I was hoping if I ignored the news that it would go away and would then not be true. However I can't say I'm too surprised.

With all the Q4 '07 games filling up MGS's Q1 '08 window it was probably marketing that wanted them to move MGS4 to Q2 '08. That way it's a PS3 killer app and the only real killer app coming out in it's quarter making the PS3 a very appealing purchase.

I just got the new issue of PSM (or rather, Playstation: The Official Magazine) in today. They had a 4 page article on MGS4. Metal Gear Online is going to be included with MGS 4 when it comes out next year.

According to them, Multiplayer is going to have 16-player support for Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Team Deathmatch and Team Sneak. The starter pack will probably have 5 maps. There's going to be over 100 different weapons to acquire and use.

Schweeet! Good news and I'll be ready to tear shit up when it drops be it with fellow GFFers or not.

The game seems to have now on a media blackout according to the latest Kojima Productions report although there were some interesting details like the graphics being fine tuned and Snake's model being tweaked and so forth.

It seemed like there was some other announcement coming up given in the podcast before that Payton and co dropped hints to something going on before Christmas but wouldn't really divulge. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

100 different weapons? I'm assuming that's not even counting how you can customize each one too. Ahhhh, M4 with a Master Key (shotgun) attachment? That'll be the ultimate weapon, M4 for the range, and the Master Key for close quarters.

Regarding their podcast last week I found it interesting how they went over the music theme topic (even though it was more related to ending themes) and yet failed to mention why we've still yet to hear the MGS theme in the MGS4 trailers. Or better yet why it was cut from MPO, I mean the MGS theme was in the GC trailer for MPO. Heh also interesting to note, incase people didn't know already, that the MGS theme was also non-existent in the 20th Anniversary Music Collection.

They finally released the TGS trailer on the PSN last week too, about time. Too bad they cut out the Johnny in the can scene though, I wonder why...

Hmm, possibly of the annoucement of 20th ann. boxset for the NA? Or better yet, maybe an actual release date for the game. My ultimate wish is a demo, but yea after hearing countless podcasts I doubt it.

Oh which reminds, heh I imported a copy of The Art of MGS 1.5, and the Japanese version of the 20th Anniversary boxset. Can't wait till my finals are over, then I can finally crack open the boxset.

This looks fucking horrible.

I'm sorry, but call me unimpressed. The textures are muddy and washed out, with ugly, glitched up animations, and the thing that made MGS so great in the first place -- stealth and espionage -- it's gone. Also, the fps element looks tacked on and doesn't fit at all.

And I'm not even gonna mention the ability to trade weapons with NPCs. NCPs that shouldn't even be there in the first place. Totally ripped from Halo 3.

I don't even know if I'll download the demo after this joke footage.

Additional Spam:
Wait, why the hell does this entire game look like a fan created mod of Assassin's Creed. Only without AA.

That and an announcement this Thursday on the Kojima Productions Report thanks to Mark MacDonald winning a bet with Payton. Apparently Payton now has to go to Konami US and Europe to get clearance for the info so I'm thinking either release date with infos on different SKUS, LE sets etc or US/Euro release details for the 20th Anniversary set?

Don't hold your breath for a demo though as that shit ain't coming.

As has been announced previously, MGS4 will include a Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.” If you can’t wait to try out MGS4, the good news is you don’t have to much longer. Those who pre-order the game will be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online scheduled for late April.
This week has started with epic and win so far with Sideshow telling me that Medicom's 12" Old Snake is shipping to me and now this. I could less about the bundle given I have the 60GB unit and I'll be buying the game anyway and ditto for the DS3.

The MGO Beta is icing on the cake but I'm holding off preordering until Konami announce the LE pack and then I'll snap that one up.
