New router's fucking my upstream

Went from a bearable 30kbps down to 10; download's fine. Router's a D-Link DIR-615, the modem a Motorola SB5101.

Does my upload capacity diminish because it's being split between other network devices, or is it simply an inescapable downside to having another piece of hardware between the PC and the net cable?

It's probably just something I've forgotten to disconnect or plug in, but I'm nubcakes at the Rout Stuff so give's a hand.

Additional Spam:
Okay, severing the router-to-PC connection restores it, but I wonder how the bro's PS3's doing... It probably shouldn't.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

What are you uploading? Torrents? Or just everything in general have a slow upload?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Just a Megaupload. Haven't tested BT.

[Edit] Okay, I've completely cut out the router; just on the wireless connection now. Best I can get on Megaupload is 22kbps, which slowly decreases in 1kb increments every 15 minutes.

I'll try a torrent shortly.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you were having trouble with torrents, I'd feel confident in saying that it was a port forwarding issue, but since it's Megaupload, I just don't know. Does it require an open incoming port on your computer?

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Yeah, more people seem to have slow upload rates with Megaupload. So if the speed is just fine with torrents, then the problem might not be with your router.

Having said that -- Megaupload does require opening ports. I think it was 800 and 1723. Did you open these?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Torrents are unaffected, up or down. Pretty sure I forwarded ports awhile ago.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
