Scars

What kind of scars do people have here? Surgical? Accident? Pix? I have a few, but they're unbelievably subtle and/or invisible most of the time:

- All up the side of my right leg, I have these little white specks, the largest of which are the size of my small fingernail. That's from when I was eight and triumphant about a) finding a cheap bicycle and b) learning to ride it. So, naturally, I tried it out on the gravel road leading up to where we were staying at the time. Bam, trip to the hospital to dig all the rocks out. I don't think I've actually seen quite so much blood since then!

- Behind my left eyebrow. Gonna sound pretty bad now, but when I was one my mother somehow slammed my head into a sink and cut open my forehead. This one's pretty faint.

- Stigma on my right palm from being (unintentionally) stabbed with a pencil when I was 10.

- A little mottled bit of pale skin on my right index finger from sticking it against a furnace door upon being convinced that glass doesn't conduct heat.

Nothing exciting. On first glance, I'm perfect!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've got a couple huge scars on my back from being sideswiped with a 2x4 when I was helping my grandpa build a compost building for dead poultry. One of them was from that, I'm not sure specifically where the second was.

I've got another long scar down my wrist that makes it look like I tried to commit suicide. In reality, it's from the first and only time I ever tried to skateboard. Ruined a perfectly good watch. Metal clasp twisted around and dug straight down my arm when I flipped off backwards and caught the watch right on the corner of a ramp.

I've got a very faint one from a 2nd degree burn that I got from boiling water on my chest. I was trying to cook macaroni and cheese at age 10 or somewhere really young like that, and accidentally flipped the water out of the pot onto me.

I've got a couple minor ones on and around my ankles, and I've got NO idea where they came from.

a little more than a year ago, when i counted, i had over 100 scars.

Being accident prone, and an artist around every thing from carving tools and exacto knifes, i normally pick up a few scars from that each year. Another significant number are from when I got into a fight with a cat when I was younger. As you can imagine, I lost. Over 30 bites and puncture wounds. I also have a few red ribbon reminders.

Very few of my scars are apparent, as most are small from art tools, or were simply puncture wounds.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have a rather visible scar on my left hand. I was playing youth football league and some arse on the opposing line didn't bother cutting their fingernails (and possibly sharpened them as well). He scratched the hell out of my hand during a play. My hand had a small gash in it and was gushing blood. "I'm bleeding!" I said. "Quit being a pussy." He said. Then I let a block go by on the next play, out of spite. heh.

But yea, it didn't heal up and now I have a scar. I've always wanted one of those scars that begins at the top of the head and goes over the eye. Why? To make me look like a mercenary I suppose.

I've only got two scars (as far as I know), both accidental I guess. The first is above my left eye, remaining from a time that I received a blow the head and needed stitches. I don't actually know where the second one came from. It's either a cat scratch or the only reminder of falling down a tree (which I did once).

I have TONS of scars, mostly due to my philosophy/too-fuckin'-lazy of not putting any medicine on it.

There's some right under my armpit. The skin's discolored and kinda puffy, and I have no feeling in that area (even if I pinch it super hard, I get a slight sense of pressure, and that's it) I have no idea where I got it, but it's been there every since I was a kid.

The major one is right above my left eye, but below my eyebrow. I was a stupid kid, and was standing beyond that yellow line in those golf ranges, and got hit by a golf club.

Didn't get any stitches, and the iron didn't hit my eyeball (I don't think), so everything was fine! =D

It's really faint now, so I can't have that bad-ass look with the scar (bah, it's not even vertical =/)

Other than those, I have several on my hands from art things and cookin things and knees (skates + holding a rope attached to a bike * velocity = 'sup gravel)

I've got a scar on my left index finger. When I was 6 or 7, I was trying to cut some lemons and had no idea that whatever knife I was using was not only going to cut through the lemon like a torch through butter but would cut through my finger only being stopped by the bone. Now the scar just looks like a crescent moon on my index finger.

The other one I have is a small scar on my right knuckle between my index and middle finger joints from when I clocked some slackjawed football jock square in the mouth and his teeth cut into my knuckle on impact. I'm pretty sure I contracted rabies from that cracker too.

The last one I have is on the side of my calf next to my knee and it looks like a straight line of bite marks where, while I was riding this rickety-ass exercise bike we had in Mexico, my leg was a little too close to the sprocket and my skin got jammed into the chain mechanism. Oh fuck me, that was a horrible, horrible pain. I clearly remember a shitload of blood and passing out from the pain. I was only 6 years old when that happened.

I've got one running across the tip of my left index finger where I almost sliced it off with a kitchen knife. A whole bunch of minor ones on my hands from just generally being unfit to handle sharp objects. I have one on my thigh where there was something or another that got infected, swelled up with pus and had to be opened up by the doctor.

The only really interesting one is the one on my left knee. When I was about 17 or something, I was riding my bike along by a little brook, and somehow or other I ended up coming off the bike, to land in the water with my bike on top of me. Fortunately the water there is so shallow you couldn't drown if you tried. As I landed, one of the gears kinda sliced my knee open pretty well.

Pretty unlucky that the bike landed on top of me...

I've got a small scar at the base of my right pointer finger. In fourth grade, I was cutting out styrofoam for a school project with a utility knife. I wasn't experienced with blades and it suddenly slipped as I was cutting. It dug straight into the hand I was using to brace the styrofoam. An hour later, I was staring at three stitches. Over two decades later, the scar is barely visible.

I also have a small, jagged scar directly in the middle of my forehead. It was acquired when I was five. I was running to meet a friend at the front door when I tripped on the hall rug. I sailed into the door and split my skull open. Years later, the scar is an amusing conversation piece. It's the size and shape of the one Harry Potter had. Combined with my brown hair and eyeglasses, I've been told that I look like an adult Harry.

My largest scar is one that spans the entire width of my abdomen. When I was born, I had a blockage in my intestine that required immediate surgery. The resulting scar was only four inches long but as I grew, the scar grew proportionately. It's not pretty to look at but I'm alive, so I'm not complaining too loudly.

I have several scars from when I had an iguana... he was color-sensitive and a male, so if he was freaked out or in breeding season he would bite (as opposed to being a tail-whipper). As a result, I have one semi-circle scar on my left wrist from when he was about 2 years old, a darker one on my ankle from when he was 5, and then (the worst ones) are on my left thumb and right foot.

That was the biting incident that caused us to put him down, and it was a result of him being in breeding season. I had 12 stitches in my thumb and 10 in my foot. It permanently disrupted the root of my nail, so now it's split. I don't really think about it, but sometimes people are like, "What's wrong with your thumb?"

I have two. The first is a small, but really noticeable. It's on my arm from a time when I was in the kitchen and the phone rang in the living room. I went running to answer it and caught my arm on the little divider thingy that sits between the freezer and refrigerator doors. Not sure why it was sticking out, but it was and ouch that hurt.

The second scar is from when I had my daughter and had to have a cesarean delivery. Nice big 8-incher I got. The scar is really very low and if I ever got into shape enough to wear a two piece swimsuit you couldn't see it.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Letsee, I've got a couple

- One on my right (left?) cheek, got mauled by a german sheppard when I was pretty young (5 or younger), had to get stitches...

- One on my right knee, I fell off my brand new bike, and an upturned (and sharp) piece of that large diameter underground corrugated metal pipe (the type they use under small bridges, etc...) went through my knee, stitches again...

Other then that, nothing permanent... maybe one under my hairline from getting into a little fight.

I have quite a few scars.

- On my left palm below my pinky finger is a long white line. When I was 3 I was jumping on my bed and fell off. My hand grabbed for something and I believe it hit the bed frame, which was pretty sharp, and it sliced my hand open. At the time it was all the way along my palm.

-On my right elbow there are two rows of scars from stitches. When I was 5 there was a mole there that they originally thought was cancerous (they tested it later and said it wasn't), so they removed it. After a week the stitches were taken out but my skin felt really loose. A couple of days later my uncle picked me up by my wrists and the skin split perfectly and I bled everywhere. They rushed me to the hospital and I got a second set of stitches.

-My right knee has a pink oval scar that is pretty faint now. I was 7 and skipping along the sidewalk. I tripped and skinned my whole knee. My dad didn't think it was any big deal so he just put a bandage over it.

-On the right side of my ribs there is another scar from having a mole removed when I was 16 that was possibly cancerous. It was really big and the scar is elliptical with three dots on either side from the stitches. There's also a really faint square scar around it from the adhesive bandages they put over the stitches. My skin is really sensitive and the adhesive bothered it a lot, I guess.

Three for me as far as I know.

- There's one on my left knee. Partly invisible, but if you look closely enough you could see it. Anyway, I was about seven when I got it. I was jumping up and down one of the couches in my house being the little happy-go-lucky kid I was. There was a plastic box full of crap near the couch. The top of the box one of those fold over ones that latch together and the edges have so pointyness to it. So as I was jumping down, my knee hit the corner, and cut deep into my leg. Painful as hell. T_T So I was bandaged up for the day, and the tragic part that day was I had swimming lessons also. <_<

- The second one happened the year before. I was sitting down writing someting on those TV dinner tables. The pencil I was using had a really, really sharp point on it. As I was getting up, my body knocked into the table and the pencil rolled down. As it was falling, it went point first... Into my foot. So now I have a scar on my right foot where the pencil point pierced my foot.

- My third one happened when I was little. I don't know the details to it, but according to my parents, I had crawled into one of those TV stands with the glass doors for the VCR and stuff. Apparently I had crawled into it and now I have this scar on my left eyebrow. It's covered up by the hair there, but look closely enough, you could see the scar.

My very first scar came from when I ran into the garage to find something, tripped, and impaled my hand on an enormous screw. It didn't go all the way through my hand, but you could see the top of my hand poking up like a tent. SICK.

After that I remained mostly scar-free until I got to Market Basket and sliced open my thumb with my box cutter. That sucked, but it allowed me to go home early.

Just as recently as this summer I got two scars doing the same thing - Acting. In a Friday the 13th fanfilm I acted in, I was required to fall on my ass on my way through the woods, which resulted in a tree branch slicing up my waist area, and then a few minutes later, I get tripped and fall into a hole, which was cool except for the enormous rock covered in dirt that nobody but my shins saw.

Here's a video of me scarring myself in this film. Around 1:07 you see my do my stomach, and then at 2:07 I fall into the hole and whack my shin. It's not worth watching beyond that, since the film is pretty lame:

- I've got the requisite chicken pox scars (it's on the inside of my left arm, mostly covered up by armhair)

-One on my forehead from banging it into a radiator when I was like 2 or 3.
- One on my chin from riding a tricycle down a concrete staircase, again when I was 2 or three. At the hospital, my parents have told me that I told the doctor that I went "boom boom crash"
- One on my leg from some hot glue.
- One on my left knee from when, during my senior year of high school, I was on a playground with some of my friends and we were pushing one of those throw up machines around really fast. We were running around it and pushing, I tripped but didn't let go of the handle thingy. My knee got rubbed in the dirt and it fucking hurt.

I've got dozens of little scars from hockey but my major scars are I have three 4 inch long scars on my chest/neck from surgery, a slash scar on my left leg from an accident with my climber when I was 7 and a big hooked scar on the back of my left hand from I have no idea. It just showed up one day.

The only major scars I have are two thin scars on my lower belly from a surgery I had when I was very young. Aside from that, I've only got a few random scars from various spills and tumbles I've taken over the years.

My knees and hands are very unglamorous.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have a scar on my neck from when one of my cats decided he didn't want to be picked up and cuddled. It hurt like a bitch. A bitch, I tell you!

I also have a scar on my left elbow from when I fell down as a kid onto concrete. I think I was spinning around trying to make myself dizzy, or something.

Oh, and I have one above my right knee from a shaving incident.

I have a few scars. Two of them are surgical, the most noticeable being the result of an appendectomy I had when I was nine. I have another on my backside, which has healed up nicely since the pilonidal cystectomy I had in January. I also have a scar on my chin, which is impossible to notice when I'm shaving daily. However, it's apparent with my 5 o'clock shadow, because there's a small patch where no hair grows.

One in my right knee. As far as I can remember, I was about 5 years old, playing in the street with my friends, and Rollerblades were the hype in the day around these parts. Well, one of my friends decided to see what "tricks" could we do, and I was the lab rat of the day. They threw beans and other small round objects on the floor, had to go full speed and jump on them. Stupid me, did it, and finally fell after juggling to not do it. when I did, fell with my knees to avoid any injuries on my face with the rough concrete, plus the mix of all the stuff lying around. Eventually, didn't notice but there was a sharp piece of glass that appeared out of the blue (to my knowledge), and my knee fell on it. It hurt quite a lot, leaving a rather unpleasant scar, and big as well. Fortunately it has become smaller with time, but still reminds me of that unpleasant time whenever I get to see it closely.

I have four perfectly parallel scars on my right ankle from when the back wheel of my bike hit a rock and I toppled over... the bike chain cut open my ankle.

Also, I can honestly say that I'm the only person I know who has scars because she was excited about going to the library. My city's library has these extra long steps (you know, the kind you can take a couple steps each on), so as a kid, they're amazingly fun to long-jump down. So I'm running down these stairs, jumping so that I only touch each step once... bam. Last step, I miss, fall flat on my face. Two scars on the top of my right hand. Oh yeah, my tomagachi went skittering away too, and when I picked him up, he was sick.

I have a small, circular scar near the edge of my left eye, which almost looks like a fingertip print. I got it at birth from a forceps delivery and it's grown proportionately over the years. Luckily, it's also gotten shallower, and is covered up by the frame of my glasses. If pressed, I usually pass it off as a "birthmark," which it sort of tehcnically is (a mark gotten at birth).

Jam it back in, in the dark.
