Guessing it just quickly warps to spring him up, then it disappears. It only said the spring would stay for a bit if it were used on the ground.

So, any bets on the Friday update being about Sonic's Final Smash?
Final Smash and Music/Stage? As for the Up+B, maybe the spring just appears in mid-air quickly?

I'd say that Vivi (or a generic Black Mage) would make a pretty good SE representative. There'll probably be enough variety in SE's black magic for a good skillset. His look seems to fit well with Smash's overall look, too.

That leaves Capcom with its obvious choice.

, that's just it. A Belmont? Ew. Plus Snake already represents Konami well enough. If we were to have another Konami character then Goemon all the fucking way (summoning IMPACT would be the best smash ball move EVER). Ryu... maybe Hayabusa but Tecmo hasn't shown Nintendo any love in quite a while (I think the new Ninja Gaiden barely counts). Ryu from Street Fighter I'd say no to in favor of Mega Man. Ryu already is in a fighting game. Ryu Hayabusa is in DoA for that matter.

As hilaarious as Q*Bert would be Gottlieb hasn't made games in years and as far as the gaming industry is concerned they and Q*Bert are pretty dead. Not gonna happen. But hey have your vote.
Frankly, I'd like to see it stay just Nintendo characters, so the fewer third party the better for me. The last thing I want is Nintendo-based Mugen (next version of Smash Brothers will have a Mii editor where you can buy skills for him and upgrade his stats as you progress through the game).

Delayed 'til February.
Ah well... it's ok 'cause I wouldn't have been able to buy it anyways, at least with all the other stuff I still need to buy (*cough* MP3, Mario Galaxy, Phantom Hourglass...). It would've ended up with me buying Smash Bros instead of Mario Galaxy, so it really doesn't change much of anything for me.

IGN's got an article up on Brawl after having a go at it, and there are quite a few revelations in there. Here it is.

Oh ho, slightly different character models confirmed?

Spoiler:

Maybe there's an option to change how the character select/interface looks like?

Sounds like a blast, and their comments about Brawl being built off of Melee but refined even further are good to hear. Definitely can't wait.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'd like to see Mega Man in Brawl but knowing Capcom they'd want to have the Starforce version for promotional purposes. I'd be surprised if Pac-Man wasn't in the game for Namco.
I really hope they use a cleaned up version of the original Blue Bomber. He's the most iconic out of the bunch. Pac-Man I'm kind of wary about considering his 3D games aren't all that great and Namco only really had a hit that they themselves made with the original Pac-Man and nothing else. The yellow dot eating machine just hasn't grown up into our generation as well as Mario, Sonic (uh....), and Snake have or at least have more than one winning game from its original creators. Now if they took some creative license and made him lunge forward in 2d form to bit people kind of like how they gave Fox that blue speeding form and a bunch of varied moves to go along with his boxing gloves he might be interesting.

As for Squenix representation, I don't see what's wrong with generic mascots seeing as how that's what the Pokemon are. I think a moogle would be a good choice. Give him moves based on the Mog dances from FFVI, maybe his B-down could have him slam the save book from FFIX? From a promotional standpoint they might go for Batman from Final Fantasy IV (with a DS remake on the horizon) or someone from FFTA2.

According to the melee character survey a Chocobo was the most requested third-party character (more than Sonic).
Hmmm... well I guess you could go the generic route. I'd do a duo ala Banjo Kazooie with a Moogle riding a Chocobo. The Chocobo Dungeon character design would probably work best. I think that at least would open up some nice possibilities with what to do with the attacks and specials.

I dunno, maybe, but only if you're unable to read this thread.

5 or 10 3rd party characters wouldn't equate to Mugen. Comparing Mugen to Smash Bros. alone is pretty fucking insulting anyway. These are for the most part well balanced, unique characters.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they added Miis to this game. If they did it right like having them use sports equipment and other fun stuff they've done with their casual Wii games they could be neat. What would be so terrible about that?

Psh, I like how people still keep forgetting that there is at the very least a requirement that the character had to appear on a Nintendo system.

And really even in the off chance that post-SNES Final Fantasy characters were on that Kingdom Hearts GBA games those cameo appearances or what not would barely fulfill that requirement.

Great news there, Metal Sphere, although we do know about a few of those things like crumbling Fire Emblem stage. =)

I agree, and it wouldn't take much tweaking to make his classic setup work in Brawl.

Ah, I'll be sure to edit that out then. That description (at least the siege part) reminds me of Raphael's stage in SC3.

The Norfair news instantly made me think of remixed music, btw.

Edit: Gameplay video is up on Gamevideos (this one is Sonic vs Link), and it looks like character entrances have returned. Enjoy folks.

There's also one of Samus vs. Mario where they show off how you get the smash balls by destroying them and Samus' final smash.

GameVideos.com - Super Smash Bros. Brawl 'Mario Vs. Samus'

At the end of the video you can see another smash ball appear which is good because that confirms for people who might have been confused about the item that it will appear more than once per battle.

I'm really glad character entrances have returned. This game has all the greatness of its predecessors now. =)

Additional Spam:
Oh sweet! This one shows off Diddy's final smash and the end of a game.

GameVideos.com - Super Smash Bros. Brawl 'Diddy Rocket'

Metaknight has some sweet victory music and a badass, manly voice. The announcer sounds a bit too friendly for my taste though. I like how when it ends it basically slow-mos the last moves of the characters similar to when you beat Master Hand.

I hope so too. I don't want to see him in his Battle Networks or Ryuseii/Star Force form. Mega Man is the most iconic character from Capcom.

And yeah, while I wish it were coming out by this Christmas I'd rather have a complete game and Nintendo will be rolling in money anyway. Brawl will be a great game for the rather slow post-Xmas season. Come to think of it what big games does Nintendo have after Brawl is out in February?

I'm sad because I was banking on picking this AND Fire Emblem up at the same time at the end of the year, along with a Wii. Would give me a good base to start with.

February.

Also, to chip in on the Sonic thing. I'm more excited for Ike's appearance. It's nice to have Sonic in there and all, but come on. IKE.

I dunno, I just liked that all of them were original Nintendo characters in the game. There's a bunch out there that mix characters from various creators/companies so Nintendo's abilities to make a whole pretty sweet game just out of their own characters was pretty rad. (Though your mention of Banjo Kazooie makes me wish they'd be able to put Conker into the game for lols.)

The Miis don't bother me so much, it's just the next progression after you can put in your own character is to give them "RPG-style development." Look at all the various kinds of sports games, whenever you create your own character to play, it gets to Level Up! and become stronger. People like it because it's another thing to unlock, something to keep playing for. Then you could even choose if your Mii is slow and strong or small and quick. That develops into choose a move set, upgrading abilities as you play more, etc. I'd be fine with it for this game, but I just worry what they'd do in the next installment.

Anyway yeah, can't really give a crap for Sonic being in there. Everyone is going to whine about this Sonic character or that Sonic character not being in there alongside him anyway.

I mean it's nice that they added him, but it's difficult to get hyped up about him when he's felt like a C-movie actor for years now.

I'd actually be rather ticked if that's what Smash Bros. turned into. One thing that I've always loved about the series is how easy it is to learn the game and get playing, without excessive customization getting in the way.

I get what you're saying, RR, I'm just not worried about it turning into Mugen. I place a lot of trust into Sakurai on doing this 3rd party thing right. He said 2 or 3 characters from 3rd parties might be in it but I'm betting he might have changed his mind and added just a few more after all the begging I'm sure he's been getting. After all he is getting A LOT of 3rd party musical talent behind this already.

The Miis don't bother me so much, it's just the next progression after you can put in your own character is to give them "RPG-style development." I wouldn't mind some sort of hidden stats as long as it's balanced enough that it doesn't make the Miis broken and unfair to play against. It would be great if they would adapt their stats along to your play style. Now that would be neat. And no you shouldn't be having start up Miis being weaker than veteran Miis. All stats need to be balanced it's just that your Mii will have its stats balanced to how you play. That might make that controller memory storage for you Mii finally useful.

"AND ALSO FEATURING: ROB SCHNEIDER"
Rob Schneider is just a regular guy until one daaay he wakes up and finds himself in a whole new world. And it's a world of pain where he finds out it's not so easy going against veterans. Rob Schneider is... A NEWCOMER! ='D

Wasn't that quote from that fake radio show that confirmed WW Link and Ridely as playable? If not I'd gladly put my foot in my mouth.
Quote:

Now that's a damn good idea. I think they should do something like that (maybe add little more random element) with all the characters to mix it up a little, so there won't be such a huge need for nerfing the overpowered characters like Fox anymore. Nothing too extreme, but sometimes you might get slightly fast Mario, sometimes strong Mario, sometimes floaty Mario, etc. depending on your play style. Of course the tourneyfags would complain but fuck them.
