Is there any easy way to beat those wizards in Titania that disappear once they are hit, aside from hitting their swords back at them? Mercades' narrow line of fire makes things so much more difficult. >_>
2 words.

Killer Cloud.

I found a pretty good recipe to level Cornileus's HP very fast. I was up to the Volcano area (forget which chapter/act) and I basically kept going back to the forest area and fighting up to the second sub boss. The second sub boss always drops a milk, and you always get about 3 ariel coins per run. There's a cafe recipie that requires 1 Egg, (which is sold for overpriced 15G right outside the cafe) 1 Yogurt (which you can make using the milk you picked up from the sub boss), and 1 ariel coin. If I remember right, it gave about 2300 exp, and + 14 max HP. After a while the waitress said she had a new recipie which was the same thing plus a mulberry. I don't remember how much exp/HP it gave, but it was a damn lot! This path is also good because you can level up your Psypher from the sub bosses. You'll even pick up several Rosemiles along the way too.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've had this question since the beginning of the game, have gotten through two chapters, and it still hasn't been answered. What the hell is the chain shystem for? Is it just there for you to try and get a high number, or is there some benefit to getting large chains?

After I got the hang of the Alchemy system the game has been a breeze. Between Psypher leveling and the kick ass fire spirits! I was able to go through Cornelius's chapter healing only a handful of times. I believe I ended up at HP level 18.

I'm about to play Mercedes for a little, bit but I have a feeling she's going to be the most annoying character ever. The ammo system with her looks like it's going to be shit. (I hope unlimited power can counter this, if so it shouldn't be TOO bad).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

>>What the hell is the chain shystem for?

Higher chains increase your chances for a critical hit and enemy item drops. And Mercedes is probably my least favorite character to play as. The way characters move and respond to controls already feels a bit loose, but she plays like a greasy tile floor. And dear god, the lack of double jump sucks in certain situations.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Oh man, I struggled with that one for quite awhile. So goddamn frustrating. This is what I ended up having to do.

Spoiler:
I happened to have a Blizzard potion with me, so I waited until the two executioners were close to me and each other (if you just sit tight for a moment, they should surround you), and dropped the Blizzard on the ground. As soon as they are both frozen, begin to hit one of them until he lines up with the other, so you can be dealing damage to them both simultaneously. Once they were lined up, I began to hit them with Precision Shot over and over until my psypher gauge was empty. After that, I tossed a Napalm their way, knocking them down to a very manageable amount of hit points. At this point they will be getting very close to thawing, or have done so already. This doesn't matter because they should be down in a few shots. Once you take care of them, the battle becomes quite a bit more simple to manage. You just have to keep yourself healed and hit Beldor's conjured blades back at him. It is important to stay fairly near to him so this can be done. After he is hit with one of his own blades, you can begin to hit him for big damage. He should be down after repeating this about three times.

Definitely one of the worse battles I have encountered in the game so far. Just have to stay persistent and you should come out victorious!

Speaking of Mercedes: damn I hated playing with her. The experience seriously made me pissed at the game. Luckily I finished her book tonight!

I was speaking idiomatically.

My god, this game is killing me xD I'm in Chapter 7.

[spoilers]And the mini-boss (Underworld) is making me want to strangle myself with the controller. I guess I'll have to grind but anyways, are there any combos tips? I just tap Attack repeatedly, that's it. [/spoilers]

Spoiler:

I killed those bastards last night. I used the same strategy as all bosses (Painkiller+Unlimited POW), but i added one of those Ice Shields. It worked great because when they tried to stomp me, the ice shield froze them and gave me enought time to fill their asses with bullets.

Don't bother about the wizard, take the executioners first.

I recommeneded this to a friend, and he has said that
Quote:
The controls are sluggish, the movements are choppy, the combat is WAY too frenetic, the system is so unusual as to be competely confusing.Comm lag between the controller and the code. It takes a partial second for the button you press to register with the movements. On top of that, the game is so damn BUSY he can't tell what he's looking at 90% of the time.
Is all of this true? He's gonna send the game to me cause I'm interested and he no longer wants it, but is it really this bad?

Only thing I hate about the game, is the slowdowns.. only for some bosses.. and when ALOT of things are on screen... doesnt bother me though.

But hey, if he wants to send it to you for nothing.. then why not? Just play it

Yeah, I've only noticed annoying slowdowns during some bosses, especially those that cause junk to rain from the sky. My biggest complaint about the game was the limited inventory space, but then shops started selling pouches and all was good.

No, it's not that bad.

The game does feature some slowdown, but that's relatively rare and even then it doesn't affect gameplay all that much. Hell it sometimes helped me.

The controls are very easy to use, the areas are easily navigable, and item and overall menu system is very easy to use and understand. You'll enjoy it.

Edit: Oh yeah, what's the shit about -- "It takes a partial second for the button you press to register with the movements." Can your friend slow down time and physically record how long it takes for a system to register a button press from the controller? Wtf man.

Usually the slowdown isn't bad, but there is no way you are ever going to convince anyone that has played the game that it doesn't lag unbelievably bad in the netherword -- especially during the fight against Odette. The fight with the wizard and Belial was terrible too. It isn't even just a case of sluggish for those fights, either, once the fights get going and the debris (or ghosts for Odette) come out it can get so bad your input can actually be e second or so behind and that's unacceptable.

Outside of said instances though the game was manageable. Also, using blizzard potions during those fights help a lot for some reason (can erase the slowdown during the odette fight entirely). I suppose because it's freezing the enemies and removing their general presence (AI maybe?).

Anyway,

"Can your friend slow down time and physically record how long it takes for a system to register a button press from the controller?"

You can feel when input lags behind. It's not an alien concept at all.

So is there input lag or not? Or is his console going dead?

It shouldn't cause its a brand new slim PS2.

Please not a defect game copy...

Like the others just told you, there's only noticeable slowdown in a few areas. And aside from the battle with Odette, it is not that bad.

As for the rest of what your friend said, I disagree. It just sounds to me that he was bad at the game and is looking for an excuse to save face.

The game is difficult. But I enjoyed every minute of it.

Agreed. It's a solid game with it's share of problems but it IS a very good game regardless. It's just the right amount of difficult IMO so that the game isn't a joke and the slowdown is only an issue in two places. (unfortunately you DO revisit the underworld though...)

Basically, two boss fights are going to be irritating due to input lagging from the MASSIVE slowdown while the rest of the game runs pretty much fine with minor instances of slowdown here and there.

And like I said, if you get into alchemy and make some blizzard potions, you can actually stop the slowdown during those fights. Either it kills the AI and causes the game to flow smoother or it just stops the animation effects and does the same -- i really don't know. What I do know is it WORKS and that's all that matters.

I just started this game, figured I'd bump the thread for some questions. I've finished Valkyrie Chapter 2, about to start on the third chapter, but I'm curious... I keep running out of money to buy healing items, does it get any easier to acquire money? So far my only solution is to go hunting for Mandragora, which only sell for 2 or 3 coins each.

Even though I'm still at quite an early point in the game, I'm also curious about replaying a book when I've completed it. The second time through, do I have any advantages? Do I get to carry over my psyfer and HP levels? Do I get to carry over any items? I assume at the minimum I will keep my alchemy texts, which should make the game that much easier.

I won't deny, I'm finding it pretty hard going already. I've had to reset about a million times, because the game won't let you load an old save file. If I'm going through a stage, and used some of my items before dying, that pretty much means I've got to reset, right? The option "retry" only appears on boss stages, and money is too hard to come by in this game to squander items in that way.

Lest anyone think I'm complaining, please understand that I do love the game. I'm just finding it a good solid challenge, and that's pleasant.

Don't waste your time trying to farm for gold, when you can just use materials to make your own healing items. Just make sure you do it right otherwise you're going to have a bunch of materials that you won't be able to do anything with (this early on in the game).

Oh cool, you can make healing items with alchemy. I assumed that was the case, but I've yet to encounter the right recipes. Did I miss them, or do they turn up soon? Either way, it's an enormous relief to know that it's possible to create my own healing items.
