Anyone toying around with DOSBox for PSP? It's a little tricky to get everything up and running, but this sure brings back some memories (including one of my first PC games ever, Dune 2):
![]() A lot of stuff is playable if properly configured, use of hotkeys is advised because the built-in keyboard is a particularly weird one (PSPRINT). You guys know where to get this stuff, so I won't bother with links. Ah, messing with CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT - good times ... I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
PSP Custom Firmware Question
anyone know what custom firmware allows you to play PSX and PSP ISOs? I currently have 3.02OE-B (its been a while since I've used my PSP and been in the PSP scene). I know there are a bunch of PSP custom firmwares out now, and its hard to keep up when you've been gone for a while. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to which custom firmware allows both PSX ISO and PSP ISO playback, because I believe 3.02OE-B only does PSX, but I want to begin to use it for PSP ISOs also. If there is such a firmware, can I upgrade from 3.02 OE-B to the new custom firmware? Thanks in advance if anyone can help me

There is the M33 and The OE-A series.
PSPupdates, is your best bet. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
3.02 OE-B already supports both PSX emulation and PSP ISOs. No need to update, you're just doing it wrong.

So I realized there's no PSP Emulation thread here, so I suppose I'll ask here. For the PSP (or PSP Lite) how is the emulation support for other systems? How easy would it be to set up? and How does battery life fare with running emulators? I'm considering on picking one up for Final Fantasy Tactics re-release and I'm not sure what else there is on the PSP, so I'll probably delve into emulation of other systems.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
The PSP can emulate almost every known system before (and including) PS1. Emulation uses more battery than usual cause it's increasing the processing speed. However, PSP battery isn't really a concern unless you're an extreme gamer that plays all day in their parent's basement.
And I'm sure you're a FF fan, so there's Crisis Core to be looking forward to. And maybe the rumoured Kingdom Hearts Zero. edit: And learning how to utilize the PSP homebrew is quite simple. So if you are planning on using emulators you should probably buy the older model. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
How is the PSP slim when it comes to PSP ISOs?

Well, the way I'd be holding this data for the emulation is by way of memory card, right? Wouldn't that give me relatively little space to store ISO files? Since each ISO file takes up about 700MB, wouldn't that mean ISO files would fill it up within 3 ISOs if you had even a 2GB flash memory card? Or is it possible to shrink ISO files to a smaller size?
What kind of battery life would I be looking at anyways? I'm thinking if it lasts 3 - 5 hours, that would be good enough. I would also assume that emulating a PS1 takes MUCH more power than emulating, say, an NES. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Then why not get a 4GB memory stick? It's relatively cheap these days. If you can afford a PSP, you can get a 4GB card.
This is just me, but I usually just keep one game, specifically Lumines, in my PSP at all times. And I sometimes have another ISO, because I rarely interchange through different games. Unless you want to play all of the GTA stories, then you shouldn't have a problem. And battery usually lasts a good 4+ hours, but that's just an estimate for me. I use my PSP as an MP3 player instead (which is probably a waste, meh) which lasts 6+. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() Want obscure Classical Music CDs? ".cso" is that standard for "shrunken" psp images (in which it does reduce the filesize.) So to answer your question
How ya doing, buddy? |
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yes, it is possible. Vagrant Story compresses to less than 200 MBs.

anybody know anything about USB loading images, and if it's possible with 3.52M33 >_>
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yeah. Just hook the usb cable to your tower and when the folder comes up, go through the PSP folder . You'll see folders like GAME,MUSIC,etc. If there isn't a folder called PHOTO, just make one yourself and throw all the images in there.

I actually meant loading them from your HDD, using the USBLoader options in the psp programs like Fastloader, and the DAXZISO program.

I think you gotta go to recovery menu (reboot your psp, turn it back on but hold the R Button so it can take you to the menu) go to Configurations and press x on the xmb usb device til you hit USB Flash. I think it's that one..

no, that only sets the option of what you want to access once you choose to load from USB mode.

Hey guys made of hay. So I got a PSP, went with the black one because silver is missing in action or something. 'Tis gooood, been having a fun and enjoying games (though I sure do regret buying Rainbow Islands Evolution now! It's somehow even worse than the awful DS one), chucked on the Lemmings theme from SCEE's site, downloaded a few demos buuuut BUT! What's a good program to convert videos to the PSP's fancy pants stinky format? Also if anyone can recommend a good carrying case and screen pro(bo)tector, that'd be rad. The screen attracts every single bit of dust on Earth, and everytime I wipe it down I'm afraid it's going to explode.

Pretty sure Media Manager is the best. There's a number of free programs you can probably find with a bit of googling, but Media Manager does everything.
As for carry cases, don't have any of those myself. I use the little oven mitten than came in the box and it's been enough to keep my PSP scratchless in my backpack. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
There isn't a downgrader available for 3.71 SLIM right?
