Robert Jordan is dead.

If you can get it to load, it's here:

http://www.dragonmount.com/RobertJordan/?p=90

"I still have 30 years ahead of me! I intend to beat the doctors' odds!" Yeah, sure, you stupid son of a bitch. LOL... oh well.

Edit: in case it doesn't load (I had to try a few times), here's the news post (beware, christian foolishness within):
Quote:

Sometimes even when you’ve fought your best….
Posted by Wilson on September 16th, 2007 in the Robert Jordan's Blog category

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson
Brother/Cousin

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name.

Editor’s Note:
The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan’s family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Um.
That's.
Probably just about the worst news I've heard in a long time.

Edit:
Actually to be honest though I've been fearing this ever since he announced he was sick, but NOW what's going to happen? Seriously he was one book away from the end.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm not happy the man is dead, I think that would be callous and cruel, as he never did anything to me personally. The Wheel of Time was, and is, one of the worst and most predictable series I've ever fucking had the misfortune of reading part of. Absolute rubbish. Stop acting like the man had serious talent.

How ya doing, buddy?

John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD.

I found him a more interesting and original read than Tolkien. All that aside, I'm sad he's gone.

My apologies. The next time I begin a book, I will contact you, Mr. Authority, to see if I'm allowed to enjoy it.

I think Jordan's being referred to "bubba" in that post accurately depicts his literary standing.

I think its tragic anytime an author doesn't have an opportunity to complete his life's work. Even if his series degraded over the years into a convoluted mess the last 4 books his contribution to the popularity and mainstreaming of the genre was significant.

My feelings exactly. I have grown to hate WoT in the past few years, and looking back on the old books, I find that I overrated them even back in the day. The first 6 were decent, and the guy was pretty strong at world-building, but his characters have always been absolute shit, he's terrible at writing believable scenarios and even less with dealing with prophecies. Nonetheless I got too far into the series to just stop (I'm stubborn), and I do hope that his notes, outlines and dictations will be used to release the final volume. So many loose ends that need to be tied up... who the hell DID kill Asmodean?

Anyway... I'm just having a hard time feeling that sad over it when I know the guy could have finished the bloody series years ago... but nooo, instead he decided to drag it out needlessly. Bah.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I didn't mind the first 5 books in the Wheel of Time series. But after that the books just degraded into boring walls of text.

But its always sad to see someone die.

I was once given the first book. For every person who says you cannot judge a book by its cover, that is a person who has never examined a Robert Jordan novel.

I read, I think, ten pages before coming to the conclusion that I'd once seen "The Hobbit" on video and that I'd already experienced everything the genre has to offer. In fact, I think Robert Jordan is the very reason I find the entire fantasy genre to be derivative and bland.

And now, the Wheel of Time series will never reach its conclusion. Take that, atheists.

My thoughts exactly, down to the precise number of books which were worthwhile. I'm sorry that Robert Jordan is dead, because nobody deserves to die in pain as the result of illness. That minimal compassion is the same as it would be for anyone else. I don't care at all about his unfinished work though.

Hyperbole much? That's hardly fair. Check out A Song of Ice and Fire or something.

Don't be so sure. He left behind notes and outlines, his wife or other writers might yet finish it for him. And hell, it might be better! Less braid tugging = win.

At least this year will bring a much happier death to the Sword of Truth series which almost mimics the degradation of Robert Jordan's work. Sometimes I wonder if the publishers had a hand on the pace of the series as why would they want a guaranteed cash cow to end too soon. He was churning books out once a year the first 6 books and then it was a couple years and the last two a half a decade. I will say as bad as the writing was near the end it doesn't compare to the hideous artwork on the covers. Those need to be given to the Shadow haha

Now now, let's not say things we can't take back... as bad as WoT is getting, it's nowhere near the completely and utterly fecal excuse for a story that Sword of Truth is. At least Rand doesn't drone on about objectivism and US Republican values for hours on. And there isn't yet a chicken-that's-not-a-chicken thing... LOL
