Haha whoa, I didn't know about that yellow Viewtiful Joe! I've never seen that around here, just eye bursting pink. I remember trying to find a store that had it on launch day, everyone kept trying to look up 'Beautiful Joe' in their databases.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Got some new games recently: Sims 2 Bon Voyage, Sam and Max Season 1 and Monster Hunter Freedom 2. I wouldn't have gotten Sam and Max if I had known Sims 2 was coming at the beginning of Sept though.

Sims 2 BV, from what little I played of it, is awesome so far. The beach locale is the best 'cause there's more stuff to do there. It has a giant pirate ship and a beach and saunas and whatever.

Sam and Max has new VAs and I prefer the older VAs, but I think I'll get used to these ones. It's great to play a new S&M game again. I hadn't even known the boxed set was out until I wandered into Ebay and saw a gazillion display copies. Despite all the display copies, they were SOLD OUT. Wow. So I went to BB and saw some there.

I got killed by a Tigarex in MHF2 :( The feline race creatures are kinda...cute, but also odd. Two stores were sold out and the last store I went to (A Future Shop) had only one copy left. I almost missed seeing it too. The load times aren't horrible as people say it is. Great way to exaggerate. Reminds me of the GBA FFVI world map fiasco that never was.

Digimon World Dawn is just around the corner, so I'll be snagging that on launch. it has online battles, so if you like Digimon, please get it!

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Let's see... these are the games I've bought since my last post in this thread (touhou/august 1st)

Bought an American copy of Dead Rising because I wanted to finish the game. I did, but I'm still not done with it. Excellent game. Totally worth every penny.

Blue Dragon was cheap, even though it really isn't my kind of game. Box art is nice, manual is bilingual, and the game is in English with Japanese or Korean VAs (selectable).

iDOLM@STER and Ultra Puzzle Bobble were also quite cheap - $65 at Play-Asia is a rip off - iDOLM@STER I bought for $40, and Ultra Puzzle Bobble was only $14 and came with a calendar and a bunch of post cards. The calendar's for 2005, but it's still a nice addition which I wasn't expecting.

Persona 3 is of course a must-buy. I like how Atlus reported that every single copy of Persona 3 which has been shipped has been sold. Game of the year.

My weapon in the fight against shmups. It's quite stiff in comparison to my other PS2 Saturn pad which I use for shmups, but it's breaking in nicely with my daily touhou runs. Notice the USB port, this is an official PC Saturn pad.

Also bought this, which as $220 (extremely good price, they sell for $400+ on ebay if they're even on ebay at all) and proceeded to do this to my ring finger:

I really need to take it easy..

(I bet this post looks just dandy with the filter on.)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Taito themed? Let me know if you ever want to sell them or something. =3 I used up my years and years worth of points you get at Game whenever you buy shit to basically get this lot for about five dollars. But if you factor in that Game are usually more expensive than say, Big W, and add in a Velociraptor, well then.

505's stuff continues to come out here without any warning! Whoever distributes them (I CANNOT FIND THIS OUT, NOT EVEN INTERNET) keeps hurling it all out cheaper and cheaper too, it's (an) outstanding (mystery).

Tengai is Sengoku Blade.

Tits aren't big enough, try again, developer!

Gigawing is destroying me, I'm not used to shooters with so many bloody things on screen at once. So I'm dodging eighty billion bullets AND trying to collect eighty billion coins at the same time? The enemies seem to bleed coins. Awesome! And Worms is great, the last portable version of Worms I played was the original on Game Boy, so this is like wow futuristic. Speaking of the future and its robotic maids.

Picked up these for a buck each, Future Racer.. um... it has really nice music! It's your typical shit generic clone racer thing, except the objective of each race is to keep hold of a ball for the longest. Yeah. Lookin' forward to the future here, for sure. It's very badly translated, some words even blend into eachother. It's a pity, I'd really like to know what stupid anime girly with giant purple mutant rat on her shoulder is trying to say when she's staring blankly at a FUTURE RACER vehicle. And Mickey's Wild Adventure is just a slightly upgraded version of Mickey Mania. Disney 2D platformers. HEART.

PSP Slim would be in here somewhere if the silver version was out yet.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

Eternal Darkness is fantastic (if you have a perchant for "not that scary, but genuinely unnerving" horror games), excellent find.
I'm a rather big Resident Evil fan, and whenever i ask for more horror recomendations the first one on the list is either Silent Hill or Eternal Darkness. I've been looking for ED for a while now.

Also bought Pokemon Pearl the other day cause my friend's a retard, and wouldn't stop telling me to buy it.

I myself can't generally stand horror games because whereas in a horror movie, where you just need to sit and watch, in games you yourself have to go through the unpleasant vent or wade through the sewer, while being attacked, etc. It's an experience alright, but not a very pleasant one for me. I really liked Silent Hill and am still trying to get through 2, but they're very difficult games for me, if you know what I mean.

Resident Evil games strike a fine balance between creepy, atmospheric and exciting, with enough gunplay to keep me feeling just empowered enough.

Eternal Darkness got this right too. It's not "scary" in the same way Silent Hill or Fatal Frame can really scare the shit out of you, but the atmosphere is good, the story is brilliantly told and structured. Many of the insanity effects are a tad gimmicky, but some of them do catch you off guard and the spell system works well, especially when combined with the puzzles. Above all I best remember the building dread you felt about the overarching storyline and some of the fates of the characters were truly cruel.

I highly recomend playing the Gamecube Remake of Resident Evil. It terrified me the first time i played it, mostly because it was my first survival horror game. After a while, it's still creepy, but you get used to it, and the game just becomes an extremely well put together story with some pretty creepy parts. It seems to me to be the best place to get yourself adjusted to the concept of a survival horror game.

You've officially got me excited for Eternal Darkness now. I really want to start it tonight, but i need to finish my current games before i move on. I have a nasty habbit of not finishing games.

Oh, I hear that. I've lately been playing short games just to stand a better chance of finishing them. My attention span with games is terrible, it was a miracle I finished FFXII.

And yeah, I have all the GC Resident Evils, it's actually where I got my introduction to the series. I adore REmake, it's such a great title and gorgeous to look at. I really liked Zero too, despite leech mutants.

Lucky bastard. I can't find II or III for the life of me. Have all the others though.

I hear you on the short games lately too. I'm really hoping Final Fantasy I is as short as people say it is.

I vaguely remember having to track 2 and 3 down from (finnish) internet auctions here, ages ago. I did score an unopened 2 relatively cheap, so I was lucky with that. They're strangely more easily available around here now, but since they're PAL, you wouldn't find that very useful.

Incidentally, after I finished Blackthorne on SNES, I started Final Fantasy Mystic Quest ='D It's just the right kind of "old" for me right now.

I just realized I picked up a couple titles since my last visit to this thread. I picked up Metroid Prime: Corruption, and also found a GH copy of Shadow of the Colossus for $15 at Costco. Costco always has the GH's for PS2 on the cheap immediately upon release. MP:C says I've visited 30% of the rooms, but I know that some rooms take longer due to puzzles, so I have no clue how far in I am. I haven't played SotC yet, but expect to get at least $15 worth of grand artistic gaming vision out of it.

I didn't ask questions. Frankly, I really didn't want to know why they had it. I knew they had it there. I knew I had $5. So we came to an unspoken agreement. If it makes you feel better, I think it maybe a bootleg of some sort.

If you take a picture of your copy, I'll tell you if it's a bootleg. I have the DC version so I'll be able to tell straight off. It strikes me as a little odd that they'd be selling something of that rarity for such a low price - if it isn't a bootleg, you've scored big.

The other day I was telling one of my friends that I don't buy very many shmups because they have a short gameplay time. But I play the ones I do own all the time. Whereas those games with a long play time, I usually only play once or twice. So I came to the conclusion that maybe I should buy more shmups, because I play them as much as other games.

So today, I saw Chaos Field for the Gamecube in my local game store, and its price had been knocked down to five dollars less than before. So I was like, hey, impulse buy! And I picked it up! With money my parents sent me in a care package last week!

Sure, why not. Flea markets/car boot sales/third thing here are awesome piles of mystery! Especially when you get the parents that are selling their kids stuff to fuel their maple syrup addiction. "HEY OLD LADY HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT FOR THIS COPY OF KULA WORLD?" "WHAT?" "KULA WORLD" "WHAT?" "KULA WORLD" "WHAT?"

fuckin' bump

Picked up Eternal Saga and Xenosaga episode I. I'm desperate for RPGs to play when i have time this christmas. My plans are finish the hell out of FFI and FFXII, play Eternal Saga, then i'll improvise from there. Either Wild Arms, new Final Fantasies, or Xenosaga (I'll have to pace myself on those though cause i don't have ep II yet)

My friend also bought Suikoden IV and Tactics, and has had III for a while now. I feel like i should borrow those from him just to play more RPGs.

I didn't even see this thread, else I would have mentioned my new
XBOX 360 AND SEVERAL GAMES (Cross-post from my journal):

  • Xbox 360 Pro / Regular / Whatever-the-fuck-its-called
  • Forza 2 (Included)
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Included)
  • Ace Combat 6
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Assassin's Creed Mini Artbook (Free Bonus)
  • Mass Effect
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Brain Age (For Mom)
  • Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (Not Pictured)

Oh and Helloween, I would recommend picking up FFX and Dragon Quest VIII if you haven't played those. Some other good ones include: Raidatia Stories, Star Ocean 3, The Shadow Hearts Series, Etrian Odyssey (DS), and the Shining Soul/Force (Whatever its called exactly) series.

Got some new multiplayer games during the Thanksgiving break. Picked up Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for about 20 bucks, since I traded in a couple games for it. Exceeded my expectations of the game, and over the weekend I had a lot of fun with it playing with a bunch of friends and family.

While I was at it, used my gift card from Toys R Us to pick up Mario Party DS. Fun stuff. Managed to play a good majority of the story mode with Mario last night and made the greatest comeback ever.

Last turn. We're in DK's Stone Statue, and Luigi had just bought 4 stars to bring him up to 5. I have three stars. I need two spaces to hit a Duel Space and on top of that if I hit the Duel Space, I need to roll a star duel up to even catchup. So I managed to roll the two I needed to hit the space. I roll the wheel and the ante is two stars. I managed to win. I end up winning the game with 5 stars and Luigi is down with 3.

Whoo!

I've been trying to buy PS2 RPGs I haven't had a chance to play yet. I still don't have next-gen system of any kind! Don't cry for me, though, I'm making out just fine on the old stuff.

I recently picked up Tales of Legendia and it's not bad. I'm sad Namco decided to replace the opening song in yet another Tales game, but I can deal. Especially since the voice acting is actually kinda good and game plays like you'd expect it to: fast and hectic. Music's not bad, either.

I also got Suikoden IV since I really liked Suikoden III, but... I haven't been able to make myself finish it. It's just not nearly as good as the previous ones. I've heard V is much better, though, so I think I'll try that next.

Oh god, I finished IV. You're not missing much, Nall. Also, avoid Suikoden: Tactics. It's an embarrassment.

HOWEVER. V is a brilliant return to form. The one I've liked the most since II. The story is deep, the characters interesting, the politics intriguing; it's everything we loved about the early Suikodens. Best PS2 RPG, possibly challenged by Shadow Hearts I and II.

I picked up Actraiser complete for only 8 bucks. It came with the box, instruction manual, poster, the cardboard casing to hold the cart and hell even the plastic slip for the cart. I also got Power Monger for the Sega CD complete. It looks like an interesting strategy game.
