Good thing is that its from M33. I hope they don't forget about us old psp users =/. If that's the case, I'm ready to buy a new one any day in the week. Plus, they just finished off the popsloader . Dunno what's good about it but lots of people are happy.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That's actually a good discussion topic.

With the release of the pspslim, do you think the modding community-no- Sony as a whole, will slowly leave the regular psp and indeed jump for the pspslim (support, firmware, you name it)?

What I mean is, will we just drop the old PSP and move on, or will there be further support for both versions?

Another good question is if Sony did something about the D-PAD for 2d fighting games. Did anyone buy it yet? I'd realy love to play Darkstalkers since you can only play with the d-pad and be stripped of doing a lousy forward jump and quater circle moves.

I was surprised to see the Daxter pak and slim PSP in Walmart yesterday. I didn't realize it was out already. This seems like a sweet spot in the PSP's lifespan. There are some very cheap, solid older titles out, decent games in the near future, and awesome titles coming later such as God of War. I really hope the PSP competes with DS this round.

Well, that was fast:

3.60 M33 for PSP Slim

Custom firmware for the PSP redesign on the official day of release. However the process for installing it is much more cumbersome than other firmwares and it requires you to make a Pandora Battery on an original PSP. Also it can't run homebrew that required the 1.5 Kernal such as SNEStyl ME. Still, it's a step in the right direction.

As far as the old PSP goes, it's highly doubtful that they'd stop supporting it entirely. There's almost 25 million regular PSPs out there, and neither Sony nor homebrew developers will be focusing exclusively on the PSP Slim, if for no other reason than because the hardware in each is so similar that there's virtually no reason to abandon the original PSP (the only additional feature the Slim has which is accessible to applications is the extra ram). Sony certainly isn't going to stop making firmwares for the original PSP.

Well I decided that I should buy one sometime the next paycheck. Just have it lie around here and there. Besides, I wouldn't mind playing the upcoming psp games on the big screen plus MGPortable OPs and Dead Head Fred =]. I do want to know one thing. Will the game look all pixelated or what?

Whatever happen to good ol JazzFlight? He always had the best advices especially when he warned most of Generation of Chaos ;p.

The games will run at their native resolution of 480x272 on a TV (note that this requires a progressive scan compatible TV: composite/SDTVs won't be able to display games), which means that they will be somewhat letterboxed on all sides but will otherwise not be more pixelated than a PS2 game would be (unless you use your TV's settings to zoom in the picture).

Edit: here's a video showing how games look on a TV: YouTube - PSP-2000: Video output overview

Well thanks for that answer. I'm sure it'll turn out well in my hdtv...I hope.

So is the handheld itself 200 bucks? I sorta missed out on it and target was sold out of them >=/. If anyone gets this before me, let me know of the d-pad situation..

EDIT : Thanks for the vid, solis. So if the screen's looking like that, I guess that's a start. I'm somewhat impressed ;p. Maybe they should release a firmware where you can cover up those extra spaces.

Wasnt sure to add it to this thread or start a new one, but how is the battery life on the "new" psp? I'm thinking of getting one since I MUST play Final Fantasy Tactics.

I don't know the exact numbers but the slim PSP has a slightly shorter lifespan then the regular one due to the reduced battery size. However Sony said something about a battery cover that you can buy that will allow you to use the old bigger battery in the new slim one. However you'll have a bit of a bulge over that spot due to the larger battery.

Looks like we're still on the money here. But I am still cop'ing a slim psp for the helluva it .

EDIT : Sony Dropped us a FW already. FW 3.70

What’s new (according to “shun goku satsu”) –

You can now set custom themes in [Theme Settings] under [Settings].
Support has been added for assigning buttons in [Remote Play].
A scene search feature has been added under [Video].
Sequential playback is now supported under [Video].
Simultaneous playback of content under [Music] and [Photo] is now supported.
Let us wait later on today for M33 to hack this >=p.

You know what would probably be the most awsomest idea evar. PSN games on the PSP. With full online infrastructure mode. THEN I COULD PLAY CALLING ALL CARS AT MDONALD'S. It's not like it can't do it, right? I heard that you can even play Lair remotely from anywhere that has WiFi...something like that.

So should I get rid of my 3.03 OE firmware and upgrade to M33 finally? Are these new firmwares you guys are talking about exclusive to the Slim PSP's mobo hardware? God I need to break out that thing again...

But isn't the net browser for psp horrible? I've went on this forum through psp and it is horrible somewhat.

By breaking out, do you mean "I need to stop acting paranoid" ? Because it really is no big deal in upgrading to m33's cfw. It's safe and the xmb loading isn't bad at all . m33 already has there popsloader thing finished you can now play games that would run on 3.00-3.03 and the rest is safe. Unlucky for me, I dont know where to put the files ,etc so i care less for it,amigo. ^^;

In the new PSP Official Firmware 3.70 they added a PSP theme feature.

Does anyone know if it can use the current theme files that are already floating around the net for use on hacked PSPs, or can this feature only run official PSP themes approved by Sony? Any help on this issue would be great.

Thanks

Well, I guess I don't really know about browsing or anything like that, but I'm just talking about implementing the little PSN games you can download from the PSN Store onto the PS3. Most of these games don't really push the PS3 to it's limits or anything, and the PSP could probably handle a lot of them fairly well. Hell, I think it would be totally awesome if they integrated the entire full-fledged Playstation Network into the PSP - things like PSN ID's, friend lists, PSN games, everything. Just the thought of playing flOw or Calling All Cars from some random location on my PSP online with my buddy who is on his PS3 at home would be pretty cool. Obviously certain games like Warhawk or that new inFamous game wouldn't work, but I would guess that certain games would, or could anyways.

Haha no. 'Breaking out' was just me trying to sound hip and cool . I meant that I haven't pulled out my PSP in a while, and am currently out of the loop (once again) with the whole PSP homebrew thing. I think I basically just need to research for the latest M33 firmware update and just upgrade :/.

I was going to download the game at one time but Super Stardust won over it... I wouldn't mind playing that on my psp..

Pspupdates or psp-hacks are the best sites to find them. I think you'll find my long post in the last two pages on what to do download and how to install.

edit: Nevermind, I'l save you the trouble ;p

1. Download 3.52 M33 Custom Firmware,Sony Firmware 1.50 and 3.52 EBOOTs

2. Open M33 Custom Firmware and take the M33 Creator folder and drag it into PSP/GAMEorGAME150 folder.

3. Rename the two eboots to 150.PBP and 352.PBP and drag them into the M33 Creator folder.

4. There should be another folder called KXPLOITPATCHER and KXPLOITPATCHER% . Drag those two into the GAME/GAME 150 folder.

5. Go to the PSP menu and head into "Memory Stick" and start up the kxploit patch so that it can let you upgrade to m33. Some don't have to but do it anyway. When you do that, screen will go black and it'll ask you to press the X button to install that little patch and you'll be taken back to the menu

6. Start up M33 CREATOR. Once again, Press X so that it can create "3.52 M33 UPDATE".

7.You'll be taken back to the menu and now you'll find the customfirmware update and install and after all that crap, you're good to go. Only then, you need to download M33-4 Update. Dont worry, that update will just install a few bug fixes and anything that prevents your psp from bricking.
So yeah, that's all there is since you want to upgrade to m33.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Am I the only one thinking 1.50 Kernel no longer being available in newer firmwares (either official or custom) is a good thing? I'm hoping this will make programmers look into shitty Homebrew such as Snes9xTYL and stuff that was never compatible with WPA-protected WiFi and release newer versions with updated features. The scene really needs to move on, there's absolutely no excuse to not use the latest Kernel for Homebrew.

Here's more news on the slim's status

Spoiler:
Furthermore, there is an ongoing compatibility thread with working and non-working PSP Slim homebrew…

Any Ideas for these:

SNES9xTYL 0.4.2 I’ve tried the non-me version doesn’t boot
SNES9xTYL 0.2 C Doesn’t boot (non-me)
Not Running at all:

Bookr - Book Reader
Devhook 0.46
DGEN for PSP Ver1.70 (Genesis)
DOSBOX
NesterJ NES Emulator 1.11RM runs but will not open zip files
Final Fantasy 1 runs fine, when left after starting another it froze
PSPLINK v3.0 OE
PSPLINK 2.0 Final
PSP Kanji
Running:

Daedalus R12 (1.00 version not 1.50)
Final Fantasy VII (7) pops!! fighting swirl included! Loaded from 3.52M33 Save file and saved to save file (reloaded after restart)
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy Tactics
Gameboy RIN GB/GBC 1.32RM works good so far
gpSP 0.9 for TA-082 / HEN-D ran about 5 roms and all loaded fine no freezing
Hexaxis XXI
NesterJ NES Emulator 1.11 (1.00 version not 1.50) unzips zips
PSPtube
Sony NP9660 works (ICE SO)
Visit the source link for the most recent compatibility updates.

I don't see how limiting people's options is really a good thing...the newer kernels don't really offer much worthwhile for homebrew, especially if they didn't take advantage of any online features. I doubt ScummVM really needs to be able to access your RSS feeds. On the other hand, 1.5 supposedly made some things easier, such as Media Engine access in SNEStyl (I'm not sure if that's possible under the 3.x kernel).

Not to mention most of the homebrew developers that made applications which don't work on newer kernels probably left the scene already, or have no interest in reviving a dead project for a PSP revision that few people have to begin with.

I for one couldn't live without my Bookr...

These official themes are so much better than that ugly ass crap that people hacked together before it was an official feature. It's also good to see that Sony is going the way of unified firmware for both PSP models.
