The Office (US & UK)
Personally, I think this show is hilarious. I just barely found out there was a UK version of this which is exciting to me since I've seen the first three seasons, and while waiting for the 4th, would like something to hold me over! Are you a fan?
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I love both the UK & US versions of this series, with the UK version being my favorite. Ricky Gervais is fantastic - I think you'll definitely enjoy it!
As much as I enjoy the US series (I've watched it since it was first on), I honestly don't know how many more seasons they can crank out. Season 2 was fantastic, season 3 had its moments. Gervais/Merchant made a wise choice in ending the UK version when they did. I just don't know how long I can stand the Jim/Pam stuff and in some ways, it's kind of heading into soap opera territory. :-/ There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I've enjoyed both versions, at least the handful of episodes I have seen. I need to pick up the DVDs.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I hate this show. I've tried watching it a few times, but could never get anything out of it. Ricky Gervais annoys the hell outta me.

I really love the Office UK (+ Christmas Special). Some parts are pretty realistic, and the subtle humor is great. The Office US is okay, but it's humor is far less funny and I grew attached to the characters of the Office UK. Nothing can replace David Brent, Tim, Dawn and Garreth.

Haven't seen anything of the UK stuff yet but the US version is awesome. The situations they are dealing with sometimes get so close to a real day at the office, that's what makes it so hilarious in my opinion. Hope they keep at it for a long time... I just don't know of any similar shows that are on par with The Office US.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I tried to watch the UK version...didn't really understand what the hell the guy was saying

Thanks to Fjordor for the funny image!

I love both versions, though admittedly the UK one would edge it for me.
I hope they make season 4 the last one for the US series otherwise I think it'll be heading into 'overstaying its welcome' territory and the Jim/Pam thing could just get stupid. Both series are well worth a watch though. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I'm a fan of the UK series, I remember watching the pilot thinking "what the hell is this?" and then something made me laugh so I continued watching on. I really like it, I know my Dad appreciates it a lot more than I do since he's worked in an Office for years. I loved how the Christmas Special tied all the loose ends up.
I watched the pilot of the US and I think I suffered from liking the UK too much to give it a chance - but I have heard it's good so I may get around to watching it. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

I know that a lot of people might have been turned off from following the US version of The Office early on since it pretty much was a copy of the UK version. Having watched the hell out of the UK version before the US version came out, I pretty much yawned at the US version's initial release. I remembered the failure that was the US version of Coupling and figured The Office remake would follow the same route.
Now years (and several awards later), I'm taking back those words. I even bought the "UK copy" Season 1 of The Office DVD >_> I'm glad that the US version found its own way and has become a different show from the US version in its own right. Of course, the painful/awkward comedy is still there from the UK version (probably the claim the fame for both shows and Gervais/Carell). That's all you really need to like The Office. Luckily, the storylines do diverge from the UK version in Season 2 (as mentioned), so if you give the first couple episodes a viewing, you'll easily get hooked, I'm sure. Edit: Apparently, NBC is bringing yet another British show stateside, The IT Crowd. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_IT_...S_TV_series%29 I just read an article that highlighted this show as one of the ones to watch next season. Perhaps. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
