Hello, ladies.
So, I want to take this chick out this upcoming weekend and uh, well, I'm bad at these sorts of things. Note: I'm NOT trying to get laid here, that's the least of my worries. I'm trying to show this girl a good time.
I know there's always the traditional movie, dinner, etc. but I want something more than that. I live in Los Angeles, so that's really close to just about anything you could possibly want it to be close to. I was thinking about taking her to the Santa Monica pier, even. I'm not sure. But yeah, any help for Divest here, guys? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Why not Universal City Walk??
or the Grove Manhattan Beach is pretty nice... Movie @ Ipex theater + Sushi @ Culver City is one of my favorite date routines... it really depends on the situation and the girl though. The most memorable first date I had was with my current boyfriend; we went to go see "Lost in Translation" at El Segundo and we had In N' Out later and just talked. It was just talking, and I can't remember any of the conversation we had, but I do remember we had fun. I don't think a date has to be anything fancy or over-dressed occasion at all. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
No, you're right it doesn't have to be all fancy, but I've been seeing this chick for awhile, it's just that now I want to take her out all fancy like because... well, she deserves it, I suppose.
What's the Universal city walk? That sounds interesting. You live in Los Angeles, so is there a lot to do on the Santa Monica pier as far as a date night goes? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Forget the dinner and a movie. Probably the most boring idea ever.
Dinner is nice, but I prefer lunch. Lunch is a lot less pressure and feels more casual. Of course, if you want dinner to be less stressful, offer to make dinner in your own living space. Whatever time you choose, have a light meal and then go out for fun. The pier sounds nice, but museums, concerts, or the zoo are all good options too. Just make it light and carefree and also open to talking. Most amazing jew boots |
I dressed to the nines and went out to a swanky-arse bar in the city with this PR girl I asked out the other week. We pretty much just sat down, chatted, and went through two bottles of sparkling house wine for hours. Highly recommended - especially if you're a decent conversationalist. Probably not so much if you're not, though.
I was speaking idiomatically.

![]() I personally don't mind dinner-and-a-movie, but maybe that's because I don't date much ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Over the summer both my girlfriend and I went out a few times, and since both of us are cheap we usually liked to do things as inexpensive as possible. I'd say our favorite stuff was just going to a beach town, walking around the shops, and then strolling down the beach (and possibly a pier if there's one there). I know Seal and Huntington were both fun (there's a good number of blocks at Huntington to walk along inland), and I enjoyed the beach at Newport a lot.
I know one thing I plan on doing when I have to move out there in the fall is to try and spend a day at the Long Beach Aquarium since I've heard it's pretty good (rather pricey compared to the ones I'm familiar with out here, though). FELIPE NO |
Out here we have a pretty rocking indie-rock scene and I usually take my date to go see whatever bands play at those little venues. Lately I've been seeing this girl who loves to go rock out at those little rock shows. We go, it's all good fun, we drink a couple of beers and by the end of the night we got a good buzz, saw a good band and had some good company.
I KNOW you got a nice little rock scene down there, boy. You're IN A ROCK BAND. Use that. Most amazing jew boots |

On the note of adding to ideas: Leon's taking me out to a Dodger's game tonight. (W00t!) Leon isn't much of a baseball fan (in fact he doesn't like the sport at all), but he knows I like it and was able to get tickets for tonights game so he just asked me out on it. (It's the thought that counts <3) So, I don't know if the girl's into sports at all, but that is also one option you have. Fortunately, there's several local teams: LA Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings, LA Galaxy, etc. you get the point. Additional Spam:

I missed out on seeing FM back in the day, when they weren't well-known. My friend still occasionally throws it (and the shoes she had signed by the entire band) in my face ![]() Sorry, this has totally been off topic... How ya doing, buddy? |

And, about your cards, they're somewhere in the glorious clutter that is the remnants of my past (i.e. in an environmentally controlled storage unit, which I need to clean out sooner or later). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() Posting without content since 2002. |
Depending on where you are in Los Angeles, Pasadena has the Norton Simon museum which is really nice. And best yet, free for students and pretty cheap ticket prices overall. There are also great resturants in the area (I would suggest Twin Palms Pasadena in Old Town) and it's right near the 134 so you can go furthur into LA if you wish.
Also the Huntington Library, California Science Center would all be great places to spend an afternoon. The Santa Monica Pier is too commericalized and always too crowded for romance. If you want to go to a beach, maybe Malibu (a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway) or even Redondo Beach Pier which is near a lot of secluded beaches towards the Palos Verdes side.
