Pokemon Battle Revolution

Thanks Chaotic

Ok so considering the game will be out within' a few days I figured now would be a good time to bring this up since alot of us have Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and some of us dont have access to the Wifi server or just want to fight others on the big screen. So thats why im starting the Pokemon Battle Revolution thread.

Now if any of you remember the last 3D pokemon games, this one seems to be exacly like the other ones except this one has a little more than all the other ones did. For starters you get a card that you can customize and you can also choose up to three people as seen in some videos I saw on YouTube (there might be more). The three types of people you can choose are:

A slim male thats basically like all the males you've used in the past games.

A buffed male that looks like all the serious looking gym leaders in the past games

and a female whos also like all the other females in the past games

And unlike the past male and females you can customize them in your own way so if you didnt like how some of the male and females looked in the past Pokemon games then you're in luck, but to get your character to be customized completely as in like have everything to make your character look how you want it to be you'll need to win a ton of battles which of course is the whole purpose of the game, but if you wanna get every hairstyle, shirt, pants, etc you will need to beat as many people as possible because you NEED the money to get those things. So make sure you got good pokemon on Diamond and Pearl.

Speaking of which if you're going to get this game MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DIAMOND AND PEARL because you DONT wanna use the rental pokemon (heard they suck really bad). So be sure to have a copy before you buy the game. Also you can use the DS as the controller instead of the Wiimote so you have two choices of control (I recommend the DS since I heard that others can see what you're doing on Wifi battles).

Now as most of you would know this is the first Wii game to have Wifi and like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl you can face other people, but im not sure if you can trade (problably not even worth doing since the GTC on Diamond and Pearl has the most ridiculus trades) so all you can really do is fight others, but hey atleast its a good alternative for those who dont have wireless access.

So all in all the game looks really good and when it comes out i'll be sure to see all of you by then. So thats it.

(Also your Wii system code wont be used on Wifi, you'll get a whole different one)

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Close enough.

I just reserved the game yesterday, I can't wait for it. Hopefully, it will be better than the Pokemon Staduim series...

Pokemon on console (excluding Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2) are just there to milk more money from the fans. I can't see myself spending $50 on a game just to see Pokemon in 3D widescreen 480p. Sure there's more battle challenges but I'll stick to the DS to battle friends online.

Yeah yeah, wah wah. Battle Revolution is important (or at least convenient) for the items and pokemon you can buy/obtain-- nice and easy Electivire, Magmortar, and Surf'ing Pikachu, as well as Reaper Cloths, stones, TMs, etcetera. And this might be a lame reason to buy the game, but I like being able to customize my trainer and what he says when beginning a fight, switching out pokemon, or whatever else.

So, is anyone else thinking about getting it? I'm tired of just sending Miis around to my friends.

EDIT: Also, some of Azingno's information is incorrect. Character customization, for example, gives six base models to choose from:

Boy, similar to Red and whatever D/P's male hero's name is
Teenager (male), like ace trainers
Buff Adult, like... the buff dudes from Colosseum or Gale of Darkness.
Girl, like campers and scouts
Teenager (female), like ace trainers
Mature Adult, which is like Cynthia

Strangely, I think the female heroes like May or Dawn fall more into the Teenager catagory rather than the child group (like the male heroes). Beyond that, you can change hair style/color, shirts, pants/skirts, (sun)glasses, pins, packs, gloves, shoes, hats, and I think one or two other things.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Do we know if commentary makes a return in this gmae?

Also if Nintendo got real they'd hold officially sanctioned regional tournaments over this game and then you could call yourself teh <Area> Gym Leader or whatever. That'd be fantastic. But it's not happening is it?

Pokemon Battle

The gameplay footage seems to suggest that there will be an announcer making play-by-play commentary. I'm not sure how in-depth the commentary will be, per se, since I can't understand what the announcer's saying.

As for the area Gym Leadership, that would be news to me. It'd be a nice perk if the idea comes to fruition.

Anyway, I've already reserved this game and plan on picking up on Monday. I've been a fan of some of the 3-D Pokemon games, and I'd like to see what new modes need to be scaled in this particular version. Also, yay for WiFi!

Yes, the commentator is back in full force with play-by-play analysis that's vague as hell. Some YouTube video with a Nintendo rep I watched said it's the same guy who does the announcing in the anime, so... I guess that's good if you're into that sort of thing. I hope it can be turned off, canonical accuracy be damned.

I know Nintendo used to have Gym Leaders back in the day with the card game (I know this because a friend at the time always carried around the badges he won), but I'm not sure if they do that anymore. Doubtful they'd start it with this, though.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I'm wondering if there will be any way to gain access to the rare and unobtainable Pokemon through this. You might remember that Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD both gave you extra Pokemon for your collection.

Not that's been announced. I guess it could happen though-- Surfing Pikachu was originally the only pokemon the game gave you, but now there's Electivire and Magmortar to get.

And the original didn't even really give you a surfing Pikachu. It just allowed you to teach your own Pikachu surf.

If my memory is correct, I do believe you could also obtain Eevees, Charmanders, Squirtles, and Bulbasaurs from the original Stadium. Not really special Pokemon, but then again neither are Electivire and Magmortar. Free Pokemon are free Pokemon though.

I'm on the fence about Battle Revolution. The main feature that's grabbing me is being able to battle random people over WiFi without the need for Friend Codes. But, if there's not enough to do in the Single Player mode, I'm not sure if it'd be worth the money.

It's a pretty sweet Pikachu-- if it's got a decent enough nature, if could be the most viable one you can train for competing. I think that's what the Japanese version had too, though.

And the original didn't even really give you a surfing Pikachu. It just allowed you to teach your own Pikachu surf.
I was talking about the Japanese Battle Revolution (which gave you a Poketopia Pikachu with Surf and three other predetermined moves) versus the North American one (which saw the addition of Electivire and Magmortar).

How ya doing, buddy?

Name: Mark
Code: 2320 3182 0206

So far the game seems basically like a stripped down Stadium 3 with online play. The colosseums work just like the Battle Tower/Frontier from the portable games with seven consecutive battles of increasing difficulty. Contrary to previously reported, you can choose between three skin colors for your avatar. People had complained about this feature not being available in the Japanese version. (All Japanese people want to be white why lie.) You start off with three default characters and no additional accessories. Additional hats, shoes, gloves, and whatever else you want have to be purchased with earned points. This means that until you beat some colosseums you're going to look exactly like everyone else.

The game also looks very pretty in 480p and 16x9, though a great deal of the non-4th gen monsters look like rehashes of previous game's models. They could have at least given poor ugly souls like Gengar and Heracross some texture love. All in all, it's possibly the best-looking Wii game to date. (The two runner-ups being Gamecube ports Zelda and Resident Evil 4, which is just plain sad.)

So far I only have two major complaints. The first is that you can not apply rules to random online battles, which means about two thirds of the battles you'll have will be against twelve year olds with Mewtwo and Dialga on their teams. The plus is that they tend to be awful at the game and the mental image of tears streaming down their chubby prepubescent cheeks as Tyranitar crushes Mr. Psychic-cat in his jaws is delicious.

My second complaint is simply that "Let me show you my pokemans!" is too long to work as an intro message. I have yet to try "Herd u liek mudkips."

Jam it back in, in the dark.

This picture of a My Little Pony represents my failure to review the Mix CD that was sent to me. Like this image, I am a shining beacon of shame and disgrace.

What bothers me is some of the battle modes are unavailable in normal battle against DS users or just free battles in general. Like the Fortune Battle system. I thought that new battle style was pretty interesting. Troublesome if you don't get your own Pokemon, but interesting nonetheless.

Does this game (or any of the other Colosseum games) have Pokemon contests in addition to the battles? If not, what other extras are there in this game?

There isn't any extras about this place really. It's nothing but one big 3D battle model. It's good that it has online play and you can connect up to 4 DS units to the game for a 4 way battle (Lotta friends gonna join in I suppose) and the other good thing is that it can send info BACK to the DS and give your game mystery gifts. The online part is unfortunate though. At least you can battle random people this time instead of waiting for your friends to log on. Also there is a level of customization but I don't know the extent of it yet.

I beat the Colosseum the first time around a little while ago with a horrendously uneven team.

I got my Volt Tackling, Surfing, Light Ballin' Pikachu a little while ago. Very nice though.

There is really nothing new about the game overall, but for hardcore fans, it's worth the buy if you have a bunch of friends with Diamond and Pearl around. Makes your battles look that much better.

So apart from the visual trainer customization and wifi fighting there's nothing new? I'm on and off about this game, knowing absolutely nothing about it other than the wifi fighting aspect. Heard complaints about the matching system used to pair up battlers online, but otherwise no news. I was expecting Pokemon Stadium 3 complete with minigames and whatever, but maybe I should skip over it if it's basically 3D Pokemon Diamond/Pearl battles without story.

I'm a sucker for dressup options like in Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 5, but I need to know if there are enough crazy accessories.

The trainer customizations are limited. There's only so many outfits that you can buy that will fit everyone, but pretty much each trainer has their own style.

You can't break the fact the Novice Boy wears a T-Shirt, or the Cool Boy wears a Jacket, or the Muscle Buff wears a tank top. :|

Even though I've only had one battle online, customization online is limited also. You can't specify to eliminate legendaries for battles, which is a huge problem for some people.

As I said before, if you're a hardcore fan of the series, you can overlook all the flaws and still have fun with it. If you're not so big on Pokemon and thinking about it, I'd say avoid it.

I'll probably write a review on this game sometime this week or so. When it will actually be up is within question. I'm really bad with construction.

I agree with the part about the Rules on the WiFi Aspect. I went up against one guy that had nothing but legendaries, he crushed me and after all the trouble I took to take Dialga out of my team. Still, I've seen some of the customization for the NPC characters and they look pretty intricate (A girl looking like Pikachu, a Cooly Boy with a Baseball cap and goggles, a girl being a Pirate with a small chest straped to her waist). I don't know if that level of intricacy is available for the users though, the nicest thing I've seen so far is the Ocean Pants. Of course I just got it last night.
