I have to disagree with Xardion and say I prefer /WHM. /BLM is probably slightly more useful, but both are preferred over other subs and you won't lose out on invites regardless of which you choose.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Guess it all comes down on what you prefer. More MDN and support and healing spells, or more INT and nuking spells, along with some nifty spells like aspir. Personally, I doubt I'd go BLM for the offensive spells. I'm sure it works early on but at 75 you'll have access to 37 spells at best, I don't see that working anymore.
thanks for the info. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() Soldier: Prepare yourself, rebel scum!! Arngrim : (These slipshod soldiers think they can call me "rebel scum"?) |
interesting to see al the activity in this all the sudden... i still play.
concerning rdm, id say half lvl whm only spells are much more helpful than half level blm only spells... /blm id say is more for the +elemental spell trait There's nowhere I can't reach.

I had to quit this game, I'm not going back to it. I've had enough of dealing with noob parties and the stress from RDM was already overbearing. 4 years and I had met a lot of cool people, time to move on.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Im gonna try this MMO.. Im done with WOW, i did that benchmark thingy.. only got a 4500 score.. but it lookd ok on the tv... just had alot of the gnome things on screen lol
im sure itll take three hours to update the game though ![]() can you play with a gamepad? I have a PS2 usb udapter for my tv. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
yes you can play with a gamepad but I always find the keyboard better for the macro(it simple to hit ctrl+5 then to scroll to your macro 5 or in the game list)
and those weren't gnome but Tarutaru, it's one of the 5 races you can choose. and 4500 on the benchmark is enough, you will probably run the game at max without any problem (the games still lag in some city no matter what though) I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I think im only around 2700 on benchmark, and ive been running fine since the game came out
![]() ffxi is a bit different from wow. The difficulty really turns some people off, although really, it isnt that hard. Wow's just incredibly easy. Alot of people just like the grind and getting new and better weapons, but if your into storylines and cutscenes, you'll find FFXI missions and quests an enjoyable change from wow ![]() if you come to asura, give me a hollar ![]() Most amazing jew boots

the only thing you can really compare FFXI with wow is just that they are MMORPG everything else is different, especially the gameplay and the way they are meant to be played.
WoW is mostly a solo play till you it an high lv and start doing some end game things (please feel free to correct me I never got past lv 30 in WoW) and FFXI is meant to be played in team and that as soon as lv 15 (maybe even lv 10). This is exactly why I prefer FFXI to most of the MMORPG but this is also why some people don't like it. Beside doing a beastman you will be able to progress in this game in solo. but yes I have to say the seeking time is the problem of this game, but I never really liked to play solo in a MMORPG and that's why WoW bore me. The story of FFXI is the other big thing that I prefer FFXI, I never seen another mmorpg that manage to introduce properly a story and not a bad one too! anyway everyone has they preference, both game are good but for very different reasons. I think I already posted all that in an earlier post in this topic XD FELIPE NO ![]() |
does beastman get a pet?
Also, My Disc has Rise of Zilart.. and Chains of Promathia.. how do xpacs work, do i need to purchase more content IDS for them? Or can i just use the chars i have in them? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]()

beastman charm other monster so that it fight for him or it use some jug, those are item that summon a monster for a limited time(but I heard that those pet are not that good)
I never played beastman so I can't say much more... and what do you mean by xpacs? the only expansion you're missing is Treasure of Aht Urhgan and you will probably don't need it till lv 55-60 and even more. the content IDs work for 1 character. So if you want a second character you need to buy another content ID. The first content ID will cost you 12.95$ and any additional content id will cost you 1$ each (and yes this is per month) so if you have 3 characters you should be charge 14.95$ a month. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
I think it's Beastmaster, not Beastman. Beastmen is a family of monsters in the game (Orcs, Quadav, Yagudo, Goblins).
I played with a BST back when I was still around, and trust me, don't underestimate the job or the jugs. Jugs allow you call on monsters in areas where charming isn't possible or convenient (such as areas with only Beastmen or a high-level area where charming won't work or only for a few seconds). BSTs are the masters of soloing for a good reason. Also, I went to Al Zahbi as soon as I reached level 30. With help, you can easily do a naked run to get BLU and the rest of the jobs. COR can be a real pain if your help can't take on the mobs, though. Still, I got all three in the end. There's nowhere I can't reach.

oh yeah beatsmaster XD I thought that beastman was odd too XD
and yes sure if you want to do those jobs you can go there at lv 30 but you can't really do much there at that lv since all the surrounding area are high level. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
lol.. i can finally play almost.. it had to patch for 8hours ;/
so i guess ill try a beastmaster.. is a warrior good? i got 3 content ids, for 3 chars I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
lol yes the first big update is pretty painful XD
all starting job are good, oh wait except thief, well they are good later on but really don't start your first job in this game as a thief. but like I said to most newcomer to FFXI if you bought this game to solo, you should already return it and go play another MMORPG... I still don't know why SE did create bst in the first place. Sure it could be fun when you can,t get any party or just for fun but you are like missing the whole game and really all mission are team base and I don't see often a bst in them XD what I would suggest is not making bst your only job, it's more a job that you level up beside your main one... well that's what it think, you do what you want XD I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Warrior is a generic melee job. Good with almost every weapon, best with Axes and Great Axes. Depending on what job you're going to become, pick a weapon that'll help in the long run. For example, going with an axe and shield is good if you want to go into PLD or RDM or something, since you'll get Shield mastery. If you want to be a DRK or something, you can probably get away with using a Great Sword until you reach 30 (which is all you'll need to get to, anyway). Anything beyond those three weapons is not that good and will probably deter people forming parties. And trust me, you don't want to wait any longer than you will as a WAR. Back in the day, I had to wait an hour or two for any invites in Yuhtunga. Can get boring and repetitive.
Monk is a pure damage dealer, unlike WAR which generally functions as a tank or backup tank. Update your weapon often, and don't ever pull hate. High HP only gets you so far. Thief is... Thief. Most people level it for farming (killing for item drops) since it has a skill that increases drop rates, but it can be deadly in its own right with Viper Bite. Takes a while to get there though, so probably not a good starting class. White Mage is something you already know about. You'll never want of invites ever because of how crucial it is for parties, but you have to be able to do your job well. Also hard to level to 10, which is when you'll first begin to get into parties. Requires a mastery of macros, so not for beginners. Black Mage is the nuker. Godly damage dealer, but sort of meh in the beginning. Still, it's a heavy hitter that can draw hate from the tank if they're not careful. Takes some getting used to, so probably not the best job to start with. BLMs have been a rarity lately. Red Mage is my favorite starting job. It fights, it cures and it nukes, but isn't great at any of them. Some people get it to function as a melee job with RDM/WAR, but it's not common or recommended. You'll be a backup or even main healer in the beginning, but later on your main job is to buff, debuff and Refresh. Fun, but you need to be able to adapt to what your party needs you to do. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Doing non repeatable quests for high selling items seems to be the only reason to lvl up another char. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
im already stuck... lol, i cant figure out how to leave the castle. ;/
also, can you not map the zoom fuction to the gamepad? everything else works but zooming. lastly, its pretty laggy in the city.. worse then the benchmark thingy.. I hope it is just in towns. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
the castle I suppose you're in Sand'oria. you have to talk to the guard close to the door to get out of the castle.
And if you are lagging in Sand'oria than it will just get worst in Jeuno and even more in Aht Urhgan Whitgate XD but yeah the city if where it's more laggy, mainly because it's there that there's more people, but you shouldn't have any problem outside. oh and i suggest to turn down the shadow to normal, because the High feature will just make you lag a lot, even on an high end computer. FFXI was a ps2 game first :\ some the optimization on PC is not that great. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
lower your resolution and other things within the config menu that'll speed you up.

It's all there. Definitely turn shadows off and all that.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I dont see shadows in the config menu.
also, is there a way to increase fonts? I think I have a network problem.. cuz the benchmark thing didnt stutter as much as playing online ;0 I reran it too, got a 3950 I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
There are multiple option menus. Check them all, it has to be in there.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
