Romeo x Juliet

http://www.romejuli.jp/top.html
Quote:
One bloody night fourteen years ago, House Montague staged a coup against the Capulets, the rulers of the floating city of Neo Verona. Despite their best efforts to exterminate the Capulet line, one young girl, Juliet, managed to survive along with a handful of family retainers.

Since that night, Juliet has lived her life masquerading as a man, hidden away from the Montagues by the playwright William Shakespeare. Only two years-old at the time of the coup, she has since been raised in ignorance of her heritage. All this is done to protect her from House Montague which continues to search for her to this day.

On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the day when all secrets are to be revealed to her, Fate takes a hand and crosses her path with that of Romeo, heir of House Montague.

So begins this timeless tale of love and tragedy.
I never thought I'd watch this but I thought I'd give it a try. The main story should be pretty much the same as Shakespeare's play but there are differences from the original play such as Juliet disguised as a man and having to hide from the Montague, Romeo being heart broken because he can't hook up with Rosaline, the story taking place on a floating island, and people having a pegasus (flying horse). I'm interested in this different approach. I find it more interesting that reading the play or watching movies of it. There's two episodes out so far. I've seen the first and I'm enjoying it.

The opening song is "Inori ~You Raise Me Up~" by Lena Park
It should be released sometime in June 2007
The ending song is "Cyclone" by 12012
Also released sometime in June 2007

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I expected this to be pretty bad, but so far it's my favorite of the new shows this season, out of the ones I'm actively following (which includes Lucky Star, Blue Dragon, and Xenoglossia).

Instead of making a direct translation of the play, GONZO has taken more than a few liberties. For example, the shows seems like it'll have small subplots about the gap between the rich and the poor, and Juliet isn't portrayed as a sheltered rich girl. It looks as if the anime will have much more conflict than the original work, which could really be exciting to watch.

The animation and character designs are very clean looking, especially in HD. The music, done by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Radiant Silvergun, Vagrant Story), is grand and fits well into the world of Neo Verona. It still has the potential to turn out terrible, but I'm pleased with what I've seen so far.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I've watched the first episode and I liked it.
The art and animation is very nice.

I hope we'll get a different ending than the original story though.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I too will compliment on the fine art and animation, though that was just the first episode. I hope it doesn't go and hit the gutter like what happened with the third episode of StrikerS.

I hope we'll get a different ending than the original story though.
Unless they execute it properly, I'd personally prefer that they stick with the original.

I wasn't really interested in this before, but it does sound... interesting. After all, floating continents always make for a good time. How is Romeo being heartbroken over Rosaline different from the original play though? That was pretty much the entire opening before.

Before I was thinking Hermione as Rosaline. But, if you see it as Odin as Rosaline then yeah, it's pretty much the same as the play. (I didn't think of Odin as Rosaline, until now. I didn't catch that little twist.)

Finally caught up on this show.

Up until episode 6, the series started from an awesome introduction to the backstory and spiraled downwards into a cheesy love story where nothing really happens. The pacing up to this point has been a lot slower than what I'd been hoping for with plenty of angst, gasping, and blushing between the two parties to make me shake my head. At least with episode 6, Juliet gets a good kick in the ass to bring her back to reality and get her to realize what's at stake. It's been long overdue.

With episode 6, we get the start of some pretty good action sequences from the start and it closes really well. What I enjoyed most about this episode is how Juliet is starting to shed the childish ideas she had held and how it looks like she'll be taking her role seriously from this point onwards. The court intrigue heats up, and although I did anticipate what would happen to Vittorio, it was presented well. Hopefully this marks the point at which the series starts going into high gear and we get a good war and love story out of this.

I'm just waiting for Team Capulet to start declaring an open rebellion. Don't get me wrong, the romance is all nice and good, but the main reason I'm watching this show is to watch the rebellion take full swing against Team Montague. A good love story on top of that will sweeten the deal.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

^^^LOL. Have you no shame?

Seriously, I think you should be very proud of what you guys have done as an orchestra. You guys nailed it. It probably takes a lot of energy to harness the subtle power behind Sakimoto's music, so congrats on a job well done.

The sense of composition is amazing.

I doubt we can compare a slices of life anime with no real plot to something epic like this guys... They're different genres. And Hayate is a comedy.

Great show though, and defintly excellant music. I need the OST ASAP.

God, no more of this Shakespeare remake shit! The movies were bad enough, the PLAY was bad enough, but this is just too much. If they can improve, I'll scream with Shakespeare Fanboi Joy, but if it's anything like that horrible manga version of a sci-fi Macbeth, i'll just... iccccckkkkkk!!!! I don't even want to think about it!

Wait what

You dislike the original play, but you want them to improve on it, which would probably mean embellishing or remaking parts of it, but you hate remakes, so... what?

What.

That doesn't really make any sense. If you hate this "Shakespeare remake shit" then why do you want an "improvement" from the original? Unless you're asking for something retarded then pretty much any "improvement" done to it would end up being a "remake" anyway...

From what I understand, many people don't like Shakespeare because they have difficulty understanding Old English. A lot of effort goes into trying to understand the text so they don't pay much attention to the story and other elements of the story. I fall in this category too. I just knew the general story but if you focused more on the elements and the way the story is told then it's more enjoyable. This show is like a fresh start so give it a try. Btw, there's no Old English.
