Boycott SimCity 5 (Societys)

So the fifth and if current indications are anythign to go by, the last SimCity game has been announced.
It's being developed by Maxis TILTED MILL STUDIOS! "Who the fuck are they?" I hear you ask. That's right, EA, has handed over one of the greatest and oldest PC/Mac franchises to some fucking STARTUP DEV. Wait that's not true, this developer did the universally panned sequel to the Caeser III, which of course wasn't that good to begin with.

So now they're going to sully a franchise people actually give a shit about.
I'm not buying it, and neither should you.

Where the fuck are we?

Mimetown is shit.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

That's right, EA, has handed over one of the greatest and oldest PC/Mac franchises to another company.
Better then EA developing it.

It sounds a lot like City Life, incidentally.

By the way RAB, the vBcode you wanted was [strike] [/ strike],

Cheers I'll fix that.

yeah sounds a lot liekthat trash City Life. and No, EA have MAXIS under their wing. you know that companyt hat managed to deliver 4 fucking awesome SimCity games. Jesus crists. This enough should be catalyst for Will Wright to take Maxis and Spore and jsut leave EA, fuck knows they make more money for EA than they get back. Then, we can see the REAL SimCity 5.

Those screens remind me of the God awful Streets of Sim City. Is this Streets of Sim City 2: The Revenge of Sim City's Streets? "YOUR FIRST MISSION IS TO DELIVER THIS PACKAGE IN TIME" "Alright! What's next?" "DELIVER ANOTHER PACKAGE IN TIME"

Oh well at least we'll all be able to squint our way to victory in

The last 'real' Sim City game I played was 2000 on Saturn. ;_;

Maybe I am not a SimCity guru like some, but I don't really see the need for more than 1 city?

Of course this is because my SimCity game experience always comes to an end at the exact point I run out of room to expand and although there is no free land anywhere people still want a fucking airport installed PRONTO and it's like "fuck this" and starting over with a new city is so far down my agenda it has gone SUBTERRANEAN

You can't judge a game just by a few measly screenshots. I guess with this game you can actually get right down to street level as well as building stuff the normal way.I never liked SC4 because it got way too micromanagey hard and stuff, and they said SC5 would go back to their roots or whatever, which is why I'm looking forward to it. They better give us more options for importing Sims into the game. The feature in SC4 was a joke.

As for having one city, I don't mind it at all, really. I don't usually ever play more than one city in the PC games, so having only one city in the DS version is fine by me.

Infernal, you must play SimCity 3000 Unlimited!

Pangalin, I love it when you have taxes down to a frickin' zero and the citizens complain it's too high.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I haven't heard much of anything about what the gameplay will actually be like for SimCity Societies. All they've really confirmed is that it is not a realistic urban simulator and that it is so unlike SimCity that they are stripping it of the "5" in the title.

I'll hold off judgment for now though. After all, World of Warcraft is absolutely nothing like the Warcraft series that it's based on and we know how many people love that.

This one's called "societies" thanks to the emphasis it's placing on the feel of your city. Its vibe, if you will. See, rather than just giving you a single city template to work with, this new game will see your metropolis evolve to reflect the way you're managing it, sort of like Black & White but without a giant, pooping tiger.

Example: say you rule your city with an iron fist. Zoom down to street-level and your city will look like an Orwellian utopia, with surveillance cameras on every corner. Your rule will also affect things like the design of your buildings.
Sounds kind of neat. I've always wanted to be Hitler.

Still waiting for my sequel to SimCopter.
I was upset when they canceled Simville. It was like a perfect blend of Sims meets SimCity, but they had to go and cancel it for whatever reason. I hope they change their minds and make a new similar game for SimCity x Sims 2.

I've been reading some previews and apparently you can't zone space for buildings anymore. You just plop down buildings wherever you want. That really doesn't bode well for me, but ah, it's too early to judge it yet until I get more info.

P.S. Hell, I liked the giant pooping tiger.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Sim City 4 sucked. Sim City 2000 & 3000 were the best. Same with Super NES. Hopefully the DS one is good.

Sim City 4 sucked.
Now that statement is just a joke. While I can concede that people may not think that it was the best (since we all know SimCity 3000 was pure awesome on a Compact Disc,) to say it sucked just means you know shit.

You're off your rocker if you thought SC4 sucked. Had a few things that were kinda iffy, but it was still overall an improvement.

As for SC Societies, the Kotaku highlight was a little interesting, glad to hear I can be Big Brother but I still have my grave doubts. And from the press release they had I just don't know how they can slap "SimCity" on this project, according the the press release
Quote:
"This SC is not a realistic urban simulation," he bluntly said. An EA rep would only say that the title will move the series "in a new and exciting direction" that would "take the franchise back to its roots, and create an accessible, flexible game that will continue to appeal to avid SimCity fans, as well as attract new players to the franchise."
Which is retarded in my opinion since you are effectively gutting the game of its core gameplay, yet you think you are going to appeal to 'avid' SC fans? yeah right...

Maxis should really stop making god damn Sims 2 expansion packs and make a real SimCity 5.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Yeah, what we need are fewer games with original design and more with marginal improvements!

Still waiting for my sequel to SimTower.

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody even realizes that this SimCity isn't produced by Maxis. Although EA has a way of fudging up the works with their decisions (like when they bought Origin and pretty much ruined Ultima Online).

At least SimCity 2000 will be eternally playable, since it's basically the best SimCity ever.

Its different when you slap an established game franchise name with an established style of game play on an new 'original' game. Had they not called it the next Sim City or had left Sim City out of the title then I would be different. Maybe if they made sure this was a distinctly different game and just a spin-off of Sim City or something...

Actually, it might. Since then people wouldn't be worried about how Sim City isn't really Sim City anymore. If the game flops it wouldn't be because it sucked as a Sim City game, it would be because it sucked period.

Well, maybe we should just consider applying the "Final Fantasy" rule to the Sim City franchise now. Just because it goes by the name doesn't automatically mean it's going to be awesome. To be honest, I was quite underwhelmed with Sim City 4. So maybe 5 will be an improvement on that. But it's going to be hard to ever beat 2000.

You're quite right, Sim City Societies may just turn out great. As that Kotaku article said they're getting rid of pipes, which in my opinion is going to be great, even though they've been in the game for a while now. But on the same note if you're going to totally revamp the gameplay why not just give it a new name? In keeping with the whole Final Fantasy metaphor (and sorry about my add-on's quality), FF Crystal Chronices bore the Final Fantasy name yet it didn't play like any other FF before it. To some FF fans Crystal Chronicles didn't really fit the FF title due to its drastic gameplay changes. However CC had its own merits and could've been just as well being a title free of the Final Fantasy name.

I had only played Sim City 4 in the year that it was released (2003 or something? its been such a long time now)... and I was disgusted by how much worse it was compared to 3000. In that original version of 4, I remember the ordinances being not as fun at all, the building of roads being irritating, and the relation to "the sims", a series that I hated, having to do with it. I also loved 3000's music so much and when I heard 4's music I wasn't happy.

It's been 4 years since i've given it a try again though...

Jam it back in, in the dark.
