The first thing I would suggest is to try taking one of them out. It sounds for all the world like a resource conflict, but I've not seen that happen in quite a while. It's probably naive of me, but I sort of assumed that these days that sort of thing didn't happen anymore. Is the PCI network adapter a really ancient piece of kit, by any chance?

I am not sure. I am starting to think the thing died.It was working fine then when I put in my agp video card and restarted my pc it stopped working (giving the error msg I put it the quote when I checked the device manager. I am hopping when I reformat my pc windows will be able to use it correctly again or at least get the right drivers so that the internal NIC will work.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
On the bright side, if your NIC did die, they are not expensive at all. You should be able to replace it for pocket change. Especially if you have any office surplus type stores in your area. It sounds more and more like a resource conflict to me. If your motherboard has an integrated graphics chip I would suggest that you remove the AGP graphics card and see if the NIC starts working again. If it does, that would seem to indicated one of two things. It could be a resource conflict, like I said, or it could be that you need to shift the NIC to a different PCI slot. I've known it to be the case that the AGP slot and certain PCI slots cannot be used at the same time. I have no idea why. It may sound insane... but it has worked for me in the past. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Well I had to replace my mobo and cpu and did not do a proper reformat after. (I needed to get some files off the drive first so I just did the repair option) Then when I put my video card back in this happened. Would trying to reformat and seeing if it helps be a good first step then trying what you recommended or should I try that first?
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Since he said 'before you reformat', what do you think?
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Back up your shit, format, and re-install. Generally, switching motherboards requires a fresh copy of Windows.

Otherwise, if you reformat and it doesn't help, you're none the wiser, and several hours of work down the drain. Reformatting and reisntalling is a pain in the ass, make sure you only need to do it once. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
Iresinstall windows already (since it needed to be done anyways, but right now i think it died since when I tried to use the on board video card (after finally setting up windows and getting the right drivers for it from msi live update it was unable to connect to the internet and it give me that limited or no connection bs error msg. How ya doing, buddy? |
I really do strongly suggest you try this before writing off the card. If that doesn't help, then it is dead. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I'll have to try it after I get my cable modem replaced (I think the ethernet cable port died since I tried it on my onboard networking card and it found a conection and tried to get a ip. but it failed.
