I just learned that Battlestar Galactica has had it's previously reported 13-Episode 4th Season extended to 22 Episodes! David Eick and Ron Moore have hinted that they expect that season 4 will be the finale for the series so it's likely that Sci-Fi has let them go out with all guns blazing and with a proper conclusion to the saga.

More info abou this (and the BSG TV Movie here: http://uk.tv.ign.com/articles/775/775022p1.html

Argh, don't remind me of how terribly lame that was. As soon as they starting saying the lyrics "...said the joker to the thief" I yelled lame! at the television set.
The poor TV was so ashamed that it cried during the last 5 minutes of the show.

I don't think that enough has actually "happened" this year in comparison to previous seasons, there's been too much filler episodes that make it look like a space-bound soap-opera as opposed to military sci-fi.
Quoted for truth.

There was way too much filler to even be remotely interesting. This Season only had two good parts:
1) Escaping from New Caprica
2) The Season Finale

Spoiler:
And what gets me is that the damned preview from last week gave the whole "We're cylons" part away. I mean, I knew the voice. I recognized it. Then I started thinking "who's been acting whacky lately? Who's the 'we' that Tyrol meant?" Great job spoiling the episode, Sci Fi.

On the topic of the song that plays through the last ten minutes or so... I don't suppose anyone has ripped the song, or has an mp3 [or other audio format] of this version of the song yet, do they? I really liked it, and don't think I want to wait until summer when the soundtrack comes out.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I just saw the season finale and I'm like "what the frak?".

I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped another year or more to begin Season 4...

Wow, for a series that just seemed to keep getting more and more hardcore & could do no wrong, what a surprisingly lame episode? There is only a single real "mystery" left, in my mind, about who is a cylon:

Spoiler:
Either Starbuck, since she seems to be hanging with Cylons, or the president, since she is with the two other cylons in their shared dream. There was only 5 left, right?

I thought the ending would have been better if this happened:

Spoiler:
If ALL the humans turned out to be cylons - now THAT would have been something.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

It started going that way. There's always next season

Seriously: I'd rewind time to the Pegasus story.

1. Admiral Kane would have survived until the end of Season 2 (She should have been in for longer, but at least we'll have her in the TV movie before Season 4). She may have been murdered by a human as opposed to a Cylon for her opposition of settling down on New Caprica.

2. During the rescue at New Caprica in Season 3, Fat Apollo doesn't disobey Adama and continues with half the fleet in the Pegasus. Galactica survives the New Caprica rescue with the other half of the fleet but they are unable to recalculate jump-points or whatever to reach Pegasus and her fleet and both halves of the fleet remain seperated for about half the season. It would have been intresting for the writers to show the two different command styles of the Adama's with their respective fleet problems. As Apollo and Starbuck would be seperated we would also be spared the "love quadrangle" of Season 3.

3. Pegasus comes to Galacticas rescue at the Eye Of Jupiter and at this point the ship is sacrificed.

4.
Spoiler:
Starbuck doesn't die. This is silly as Katie Sackhoff isn't leaving the series and she's returning as a regular in Season 4 anyway.

5.
Spoiler:
Tori, Anders and Tyrol are 3 of the four final-five Cylons and add Gaeta at number 4 (he was alway's too nice). COLONEL TIGH SHOULD NOT BE A FRAKKIN' SKINJOB!

Spoiler:
No freaking duh? Who ever doubted Starbuck was one of the final five? That's no mystery at all. In the last minute of Crossroads she practically had it written on her forehead. Hello, she's been drawing the Eye of Jupitor sense she was 12, all the visions she's had about fullfilling her 'destiny,' her raptor explodes into a million pieces then she comes back with a smile on her face. 'Hi Lee, I've been to Earth, I know where it is and I'm going to take us there.' Ok, let's say she died in that explosion, if she's a cylon, one of the final five where would she ressurect? Earth. The only question that remains is what are the purposes of the final five, are they on the human side, cylon, or neutral? Who's going to get to Earth first and how long will it take them to get there? Most importantly WHO or WHAT is on Earth anyway? The Thirteenth Tribe, The Final Five, Both or something else? In my opinion the episode was very NOT lame, it was quite suspenseful and open-ended. Just because there weren't bombs going off, lights flashing and people dieing doesn't mean it had to be lame. Oh yeah, and what about Baltar, lets not forget him. The cult must be taking him somewhere and what was the vision in the opera house with Six and Hera about? There's plenty of mystery left if you ask me. If Baltar isn't one of the Final Five then what? Let's see how serious they are about declaring him God.

I'm still sure about whatever the "Head Six" and the "Head Gaius" of Dr. Baltar and of Caprica Six is, it's gotta be something divine. I've had this theory since quiet some time that Head Six actually is God, or at least an "angel" and not just Gaius being nuts.

This WAS a pretty good episode indeed. And it's even (again) a worse cliffhanger than the previous ones, basically because Galactica just began to be rock-ish again (REALLY rock-ish, like spacebattle and big revelations and Baltar on the run rock-ish) after a very slow and partially dull season and *bang* it's over and we have to wait till January.

Spoiler:

Earth... Well one of the theories of the people at the BSG forums at scifi.com that I liked a lot was that at Earth they'll find a community of humans living in peace with the Cylons, or at least with a splinter group of Cylons which isn't keen on wiping man out. The Final Five would be sleeper agents of those Cylons to safeguard the Twelve Colonies from their more bloodthirsty brethren.
Something is off with the sense of time anyway, Saul being a skinjob and all that (which I still find a bit hard to believe... I hear music, must be a cylon... HEY~ my morning bowel movement felt really strange, I must be a cylon... ).
Still I highly that the revealed Final Five are on the side of the "nuke'em" faction. Among other things because it would make the Chief, an important audience identification figure, into, well, NOT that. But who knows. Maybe I'm all wrong...
Starbuck... I dunno, maybe she IS a cylon, or maybe she is a prophet, not unlike the president. What she found on that gas giant might have / must have been a wormhole to... our solar system or something.
Anyway, did anyone notice her flying an old Viper-Model?

I'm all pumped for next season... Sadly, it'll be a long night till then...

Additional Spam:
Oh, and by the way, does anybody know if and when there'll be an OST for Season 3?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

In the original BSG series there was that "ship of light," I can't remember much about it, I think it was a team sent from the future to help the Galatica? And the (male in that series) Starbuck crashed on a planet and was left behind, but via the help of the ship of light bore some super-smart child who was sent to the Galactica and was a key character in the shitty spin-off show.

Here, in Prez Laura's last vision, there were those 5 guys in all white sitting in a circle looking at them. Starbuck is left supposedly dead on a planet and comes back to help everyone.

Wouldn't surprise me if this new development is a play on the "team of light" thing from the original BSG. I'll have to re-learn what they were about on Wikipedia later.

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Lights Hmm, not quite as I remembered.

I'm also curious about what they're going to find if/when they reach Earth. The point above about the Final Five being resurrected on Earth is an interesting one, but then... Where would Starbuck have gotten her Viper?

Anyway, I think one of 4 things could happen when they reach Earth:

Scenario A: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where the 13th Colony has settled and grown to a population of a few million, somewhere on the planet. They [presumably] have the same type of technologies as the other 12 colonies, maybe even more advanced.

Scenario B: They find an 'Alternate Universe' Earth, where there is no human life. Presumably, the 13th Colony has either died off, or left clues to their possible 'new location'. [Not very likely, in my eyes, but still a possibility if they do continue past the fourth season.]

Scenario C: They find Earth, exactly as it is today--poplulated with 6-7 billion people, but they still hold the beliefs of the original colonies: the Gods, and such.

Scenario D: They find OUR Earth, exactly as it is in real life--by people who have no idea what the '13th Colony' is, and would freak out when a bunch of humans and human-robots suddenly dropped out of the sky.

Just a few points to ponder. I personally like Scenario D, but that would set up the entire series for a cliffhanger ending, assuming that season 4 is indeed the last.

About the S3 soundtrack, it's slotted for Summer 2007. No exact date yet, that I know of. [If you're wondering, the cover of 'All Along the Watchtower' WILL be on it.]

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Scenario D has already been done (with the horrific Galactica 1980). Trust me, you don't want that scenario, nor do you want Starbuck to have had some superintelligent baby come back to annoy the hell out the Galatica crew.

I had forgotten about the ship of light and the advanced beings who helped the humans in the original series. They were ok there, because they represented one possible route for the humans to find Earth, but to introduce them in the new series in the 4th (and probably last) season seems like deus ex machina. Unfortunately, though, that does seem a very logical conclusion to the cliffhanger, since I highly doubt that Chief Tyrol, Tigh, etc. are Cylons.

Damn you nuttyturnip!!! When I read Sousuke's scenario D; I hit a wall as if I reached a buried memory of a traumatic event. Then you had to go and say it didn't you? Galactica '80!!! I had purged that television travesty from my mind and you've reawakened it- DAMN YOU!!!!

I don't know if it's just me, but... they kept panning to one woman in the 'audience' during the trial. When they gave the verdict, they had one particularly good shot:
Spoiler:

Anyway, when I saw that, I did a double take, and actually had to rewind, and pause on the frame for a few seconds. Why? She looks a lot like Deanna, #3.

Or maybe it is just me.

That's the woman who begged Baltar to bless her baby in the previous episode, so any resemblance to Deanna wasn't intentional. They just wanted to show that Baltar's supporters were in the crowd too.

*bump*

I just wanted to say I watched Battlestar Galactica: Razor last night. Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen / Major Shaw is incredibly hot. I miss BSG so much, it almost makes me cry when I think of how Season 4 will be the last, and it's not airing until March next year.

That is all.

I don't feel like making a thread just for Season 4 since the whole BSG story just continues anyway. Maybe a mod can rename this thread to just "Battlestar Galactica Discussion" or something. Anyway, this text is just filler for the upcoming spoiler [from tonight's episode].

Spoiler:
Whooo! Cally is dead! I was almost considering another possible epic hugeness if Cally actually killed Galen and then resurrected... oh well. She also came up in crazytalk about her being the last cylon. Oh well, she's spaced out now, so the season just got that much more awesome. I guess she was "major death" that was mentioned that would happen in the first 4 episodes.

Also, Tory moves up past No. 3 in my Hottest Cylon Model list. Now that she's killed, she's even hotter.

I guess the only lame thing from this episode was no Baltar. Weak. There should always be one Baltar moment of hugeness.

I'll probably watch it again tonight, at least the end, just to see the preview for next week; but I like this live stream idea. Will definitely do again next week.
