If Patchy/Mikhail knew who they were and was going to end up fighting them, why the hell did he not shoot to kill? He purposely wounds Sayid then stitches him back up, then lets Locke roam around at will and sits down to talk to Sayid and Kate without any kind of back-up weapon nearby? Seriously, wtf? To add to that, Klugh doesn't attack Kate with a gun or weapon of any kind? Locke playing chess while a suspected Other is lying on the floor tied up in the next room? Why is nearly everything in this paragraph a question that will most probably never be answered?

The promo on ABC's page shows
Spoiler:
Mikhail revealing that the Others have no need for Sayid or Kate, and possibly no more need for Locke. So why in the blue fuck would he even contemplate keeping them alive? Why not just shoot them both and drag Locke away?

Why would the failsafe for a "Hostile invasion" require you to sit and beat a game of chess? Oh yeah, that's right 'cos when those Hostiles come running out the jungle you can tell 'em to chill for a sec while you beat the comp at chess. Or when those hostiles have taken over and have you bound or gagged, you can shuffle over to the comp, beat a game of chess, and go through an annoying "press 1 if you are lying in pain.." system to get the place to explode.

I'll admit the chess game was pretty dumb, but i'm pretty sure Patchy's motive was to become the next Ethan, and earn their trust enough to infiltrate the survivors.

I thought it was pretty cool that the others dont have anything to do with Darma. Makes things a little more interesting now.

Wait. How did you come to that conclusion?

The Russian guy lied to Sayid and Kate about that. He actually is a member of Dharma.

Rewatch it, he admits he is one of the 'others' and on the video the head of darma clearly states that there are 'hostels'.

Im going to take a stab in the dark and say I think the 'others' are a reglious group, that are working against Darma cause. If anyone has read Sam Bournes 'The Righteous Men' you will understand what im getting at.

About tonight's episode:

TOTALLY called all the shit that happened in the flashback. I LOVE the nod from Claire to Jack's Dad "So it's true?" as though the writers/producers are implying the the rumors among fans was right about Claire and Jack being related.

Also - holy hell, I loved the bit when Locke just throws the Russian across the perimeter and we see blood spurt out of his fucking ears. Awesome awesome. That made the episode for me.

Looks like Kate and Co. won't hesitate to go into the living quarters next week. Excited.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

About time.

Spoiler:
Honestly, all the conflicts these first chunk of episodes have been nothing but filler (I'm half convinced that the entire Charlie dying subplot is a writer device to add content, and in the end it won't be meaningful towards any conclusive outcomes). This conflict finally seems like the first chance we really get to see some potentially large hostile encounters.

At least I know next week shouldn't be missed.

I haven't seen any previews of next weeks episode. I would predict there will be an episode where it fills in the blanks of Jack being taken to the Others barracks.

Edit:- I have just seen a preview of next weeks episode and I'm so excited about it - looks like everything points to Jack being a scumbag.

I would predict that he is playing along with conforming so that he can do some damage once he has gained their trust. However, it could be many things. For all we know, he could have been hypnotised.

This preview here is pretty exciting..

Yeh I was thinking the same, and its doubtful John is part of darma, he pretty much in the blue as everyone else, if you remember back in the days of the hatch when the doors dropped on him.

Episode didnt progress the story at all, but it was very entertaining (I knew patchy would get fried, and i enjoyed it too), wish added a bit more suspense to Kate climbing over.
Next weeks looks like a must see!

My dad seems to think John is hiding something, with what Patchy was about to say about him, and how John didn't hesitate to kill him. I'm not sure what i think about that. Also, i wonder what he had planned for the C4.

I don't think John was part of the Dharma Initiative. If that came up when he first found the button, i might've believed it, cause he was so eager to push it and everything, maybe he was doing something he was supposed to do (take over in the event that the current button pusher became incapacitated). But after his first encounter with the Pearl, and how he stopped pushing the button, that implies that he didn't know anything about the station, and what it could really do.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well. I think that was definitely the episode of the SEASON. (Edit follows)

Locke's DAD is on the island. WAIT until Sawyer finds out ahahahhaha this is a MINT episode. It leaves me aching for more - something I've missed for a long, long time.

This episode really made my night. I love the stunt Ben pulled on Locke and Sawyer with the submarine. I couldn't stop laughing when Locke apologizes to Jack and BOOM goodbye submarine~

Wow. Floored.

Somehow a pharmaceutical spam post seems oddly fitting after tonight's episode.

This was definitely one of my favorite episodes this season, and ranks pretty high overall. It helps to make up for Locke's last lame flashback about living on that hippy commune. I was a little sketchy on why Locke went to confront his father, who he already knows doesn't give a damn about him, rather than just telling the police everything after the son turned up dead, but the ending more than made up for that.

The writers and producers of this show ought to let this episode serve as an example. Jack is boring. Kate is boring. There isn't chemistry between they're characters or acting and their stories have been exhausted. They weren't too thrilling in the first place. Locke is interesting. His motives certainly stand apart from everyone else. Ben is interesting. Clearly untrustworthy to everyone, yet he still works with manipulating people regardless.

Jack and Kate's scenes completely bogged down everything great about this episode. Ben and Locke's scenes were as good as this show has ever been. There was a real air of mystery behind what each character knows and the standoff of their dialog instead of the usual frustration of characters just not communicating to stretch out whatever storyline.

They've already given half the season practically to Jack, Kate, and Sawyer. Let's shelve that triangle for awhile, how bout it, and stick with these two for a bit.

Oh, and let Charlie fall into some quicksand or something already.

Probs the best episode this season.

Spoiler:
I had to replay locke getting thrown out the window over again, that was insane, reminds me of SPL with donnie yen, thats the last thing you expect

Spoiler:
I think next episode is gonna get soppy, Locke will do alot of crying, and the dad will do alot of begging, Ben will just cap the bastard

Since that Jack flashback (which was the worst episode of Lost ever), the show's just got better and better. That episode was just wow! I can't wait to see what happens next week (not said that in a while).

Seems like the creators have finally discovered what makes the show great again. The past few episodes have been good ever since the worst ever episode with the Jack flashbacks.
I've not said this for a while, but I can't wait for next week.

Spoiler:
How does Danielle come into all of this? Kate, Sayid and Locke know that she is in the compound, but the Others don't. Now that she has seen her daughter, and knows that she is alive and well, there is no telling what she could do.

That was definitely the first good episode in a while, but I totally saw both surprises coming, ie, Locke getting pushed out the window and his dad being on the island. I knew he would be going out the window as soon as he entered the apartment and it was lined with windows. Dead giveaway.

And somehow, I think because I've been watching the show for so long, I just figured his dad would be on the island. As soon as Ben asked for "the man from Talahasee" I knew it. It has sort of lost it's knack for surprising the audience because all the surprises are presented exactly as they always have been, so it makes them very predictable.

Other than that, it was by far the best episode of the season. The show hasn't been this good in a LONG time. Anybody have a link to next week's preview?

This [as already stated by others] is probably the best episode yet this season. Anyone else think though... That Locke's father on the island is just another trick? Smoky, maybe?

Back in the first season Jack kept seeing his father, but when he found his casket, there was no body in it. Just a thought.

Next week's teaser can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX5MRZmsTCg

[There's two versions of it, but the differences are so subtle that I had to watch both in sync to tell.]

[edit] Damn, someone beat me to it. xD

Wow, Locke's dad is on the island, I wouldn't have fucking guessed.

This episode was okay, but I kind of don't understand the hype about it. There have been better episodes. Sure, the flashback was kinda good and there were some more or less exciting moments, but overall, I noticed Jack is becoming an even bigger asshole than he's already been, that Danielle still hasn't seen a fucking haircutter and Sayid still hasn't laughed for four fucking episodes. New episode, old stuff.
