I don't think we're fighting, I think we're agreeing that the return of the Whale is a necessity.

Funny that it's mentioned. That "fisherman" logo was one of my all-time favorite NHL logos. It beats the pants off of most anything presented by the other teams. I don't know why fans demanded the return of their shitty, old, Long Island logo. "Oooooh, a peninsula! It's a-comin' to get me! I'm shaking!"

The only logos that compare in awesomeness are the Oiler's alternate logo, the Washington Capitals and the old, Vancouver Canucks "Star Wars Skate".

The one hockey logo I never understood was the Quebec Nordiques. What was that thing even supposed to be?

It's either a crappy, lowercase "n" with a hockey stick pasted to its side, or it's some post-modern, reductionism-movement rendition of a hunched-over forward racing with the puck.

It's a shame the Nordiques were sold off to Colorado. Had they stayed in Quebec, their jerseys would've been updated the following year, to what I think it a pretty awesome design. (Not as cool as the Gorton's fisherman, though.)

Spoiler:

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

As shitty as the Nords' crest was, the rest of the jersey looked really awesome.

I will accept this. Just not at the expense of my PITTSBURGH Penguins.

The Penguins are staying in Pittsburgh, finally and officially (even if it hasn't been confirmed), and will spend two more seasons in the Civic Arena while they await the building of a new arena.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Detroit's at Nashville tonight as part one of a home and home series. After one period, tempers are already flaring up between both teams, and it's tied 1-1. Looks like it'll be an interesting couple games.

I'm also switching over to the Buffalo/Pittsburgh (glad to hear they're staying) game during stoppages.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Watch out Eastern Conference: the Pittsburgh Penguins are a team to worry about. After squeaking past the Sabres last night in the shootout, they easily beat the Devils, moving within 4 points of the division lead with 12 games to play (including one more against the Devils). Realistically, the Penguins could move up to second in the conference, should they supplant the Devils and maintain their lead over the Southeast leader. (Of course, they could always land in first, but I'm not gonna hope for greed. Home ice advantage would be a sweet deal for the Penguins though.)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Fucking Christ, Dope. Couldn't your team have just beaten NYR in regulation? Think of it as a personal goddamn favour for a team that just went from 6 to 8 back.

How ya doing, buddy?

A bitch, eh?

I know how you feel...it's like that in the NW division daily. You could say it every night... "Please god I don't care who wins...as long as it isn't a 3-point game..." Sure enough, it would be some stupid overtime or shootout win for whoever.

Although, lately, the 'Nucks have been able to pull away... 27-5-5 since Christmas...

Anyhow, g'luck to the Bruins...I'd love to see them get in. Probably my favourite team from the East (other than Carolina).

For anyone who follows the West, what the hell is going on with the Flames? Sweet vindication for Canuck fans everywhere... I read somewhere that the Flames haven't beaten a playoff team on the road since November...ouch. The way Colorado is playing, that eigth spot is up for grabs again when a week ago it seemed the eight playoff teams were set.

So I pretty much gave up on the Gamingforce Fantasy Hockey League once I realized there was no playoffs. Whine. At least I'm in the final four and looking good for the finals in my other hockey league.

Anyway, there's two weeks left to the season and the Penguins are playing 8 games of 9 that have some manner of playoff importance to someone. They just need to keep getting points (preferably by winning) and they should be able to get that home-ice they would like to get. April 5 against the hosting Senators will probably determine whether the Penguins are in the bottom 4 or the top 4 of the East. Of course, if the Devils keep losing (and April 3 they play the Senators...who to root for?), they'll end up with the division lead and they'll be top 3 no matter what.

Optimistically, they could still conceivably land in the #1 seed in the East, but let's shoot for 4th first.

Now 28-5-5 after that shut out win last night against the Predators! I was hoping for more intense match to be brought on by the top team in the west, but they were only held to 13 shots in the last two periods. With that win, the Canucks are only 4 points behind the Predators for top dog in the west, and it was Luongo's 4th shutout this season. Seems kind of low though, I thought he had more.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Todd Bertuzzi's finally playing again, making his debut with Detroit tonight against Columbus. Hopefully Detroit will pull out a win here to keep pace with Nashville or possibly pass them up tonight.

Lots of other games tonight, but it seems none others are on TV here. It's a shame, there's a few I'd really like to watch.

An aside: when will those crippled Canadian cities receive NHL teams again? I've looked at the most recently available financial figures for the league, but I'm unsure what sort of profit is needed to expand the league.

Also, my Wisconsin needs a REAL professional hockey team. Gimme. NOW.

The Lightning played very well tonight, and its encouraging since it was against the Devils (even though they were missing some key players). We're now only 2 points back in the Southeast division with 1 game up on leading Atlanta, additionally, we also play our final game of the season in Atlanta. Should be a very interesting finish to the season.

One rumor is that future expansion will include at least one Canadian team.

If the Penguins win tonight they clinch a playoff spot for the first time in 4 years. It is most excellent to be thinking about playoff hockey once again.

And the Pens could possibly end up winning the division by the end of the season. I cant even remember the last time they won a division title. I am also enjoying the fact that ill never have to hear the words "rebuilding" for quite sometime.

Well, we won't take the division lead tonight, probably. The Devils are playing the Islanders, sans Rick DiPietro.

The Canucks clinched a playoff berth tonight, with a 3-0 win over the Avalanche. Since they've earned a spot, I wonder if they'll play Sabourin for the majority of the remaining games, and rest Luongo so he's fresh come playoff time.

This is the clubs' 46th win this season, tying the season record for wins by the Canucks (acheived when Pat Quinn was coach.)
