Leaving the computer on.......
Is that a bad thing to do? I try to turn it off when I go to sleep, but lately I've been either downloading something overnight or doing some 34-hour conversion that I don't want to interrupt........
Is it a bad thing to leave it on, or does it really matter? In case you need this info, processor is 3.06 GHz and RAM is 4 GB of like the second or third fastest RAM available. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
no,is normal.I did on my pc too.is working 24 hours.is like that since 5 years
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
It's not dangerous to leave your PC on - just make sure you clean it from the inside on a frequent base (removing dust).
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Will do. Thank you guys.

Unless of course you're worried about your electricity bill, then not really. I've switched my PC off like 20 times in the last year, either for upgrades, cleaning, moving it or something.
Wikipedia says constant starting / stopping of your hard drives is worse off for their health than if they were left either on or off all the time, too ![]() I was speaking idiomatically. |

On grounds of power consumption, leaving it turned off when not used is a superior alternative. Ditto for preservation of Hard Disk and associated DVD/CD burners.

I always turn off the PC when not in use. Though, I have been using BitTorrent more with this PC, up to 15 hours occasionally. That said, I always feel weird leaving it on too long since I want this PC to last a life time...

I'm afraid to turn my off.. I used to turn PC's off whenever I was done with them. One day when I turned my computer on, the power supply blew up and trashed my computer. ~_~........... When I bought a new one, I never turned it off.

Isn't leaving the computer on all the time bad for the fans? They'd die a lot sooner... that, and you get more dust inside because they are always sucking air in.
Also, in some older computers, windows seem to run slower the longer you leave the computer on... so you'd have to either restart or turn it off. That's the case for my 5-6 year old desktop running Win ME, anyways. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Constantly turning it on and off within seconds of each interval is not good. Turning it off after it being on for sixteen hours is fine.
I use to keep mine on all the time too, but lately been having it off more. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Record uptime of 2000/XP: > month The problem is not "the older computer", but rather the garbage software that shouldn't have earned microshit a penny. I've left my pc on for 3 years straight (according to the os disk's smart) and it's running fine, aside from the video card being unstable when it gets hot due to poor cooling (only an issue in the summer), and the sound crackling (known creative problem).
