Metal Gear Solid Movie Announced

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryId=20&cs=1

Michael De Luca (Producer for many films like Dark City, Ghost Rider, Zathura, Blow, Thirteen Days, Blade II, etc etc etc) and Hideo Kojima will produce the production with Sony.

Let the speculation begin! Who should direct? Write? Star? Write the score? Should it be an adaptation of MGS or another game in the series or a completely new story?

For a director, I don't know, I guess Christopher Nolan, this seems right up his alley. Or maybe Brian Singer. To write it, well at least someone who is a good scriptwriter, of course the end result will probably be changed greatly by the director and producers. For the star, I definitely think that Hugh Jackman should be Snake. He's bad ass, a good actor, and no stranger to action roles. Plus he definitely looks the part.

Either way, in the right hands, this has the potential to become the best video game adaptation, of course that is not saying much.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I would actually LOVE for David Hayter to write and star as Snake. He voiced him already and he's proven himself a good writer with the first X-Men movie.

I, oh wow... This movie is going to be a trainwreck.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Definitely gotta keep Solid Snake in the starrin' role. Don't want a new character taking the spot (looking at you RE), ain't Metal Gear without Solid Snake.

As for actors (assuming adaption of game), I think Sean Bean (got the accent, and look, he can pull off that mullet) would be perfect for Liquid Snake. Though, I don't think he'd make a very good Solid Snake, so we'd have to ignore the twins aspect to make that work. But at the same time, that is essential element to the MGS world and therefore cannot be ignored.

Also, I think Robert Loggia would make a good Colonel Cambell too. Though he'd have to dye the gray/white.

Anyway, those are the only two off the top of my head.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if HGW is on for the soundtrack. Though, it'd be awesome if they could get Hans Zimmer instead (ahhh, be so good).

Sean Bean as Liquid? Brilliant! They could even probably get away with just splicing in his Trevelyan performance.
Apparently Kojima wants Viggo Mortensen for the star role- no qualms there.

Oh god this is going to be the most asinine movie ever (as if anyone expected anything else). Nothing short of a complete and total storyline overhaul could save this movie from turning into an utter abomination. There's simply too much shit to compress into a 1.5hr movie (hell, there's too much to fit into a 6 hour game without cramming it in) and really, what's there isn't good enough to work with in the first place.

I would rather see a Norihiko Hibino-composed soundtrack, but the score will probably be done by HGW which is a shame since he's way, way too grandiose to be taken seriously and every arrangement of the MGS theme I hear sounds worse than the last (hell, I'll take the version from Ape Escape 3 over anything from MGS2 or 3).

I believe that they should write a new and completely different story. It hasn't worked in the past with game-to-movie adaptations (cue Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne etc... Hey, at least Uwe Boll isn't handling it!), but in my honest opinion, Metal Gear The Movie needs it so that fans and movie-goers can enjoy it and not be able to predict what may happen. The plot twists were always the element in which the Metal Gear Solid series excelled in so I'd like to see them translate into the screen.

Plus, it'll allow for the script to fit into a 2hr or so movie.

As for actors, I'm completely lost about who would make a good Snake. I thought about Daniel Craig (the new Bond) as Liquid... but NO.

Hopefully we'll hear more news on this film!

Sean Bean looks so much like snake, but I agree doent fit the bill some how.

Does anyone remember this, its probably about 5 years old, but some of the cast ideas are spot on. But maybe slightly out of the budget range for this movie lol

Russell Crowe is a definate no for me.

lol yeah I remember that. Too much egos for one little movie. :P

I actually think Hugh Jackman could be a decent Snake. Of course I just hope they don't get star crazy and hire a bunch of people cause of their names. Tom Cruise as Solid Snake just doesn't cut it for me.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Shame he's not the right age for it. He was one of the best parts of Terminator.

Sean Bean as Liquid is a brilliant idea though.

I have a feeling that if Kojima plays a big enough role in deciding who the actors are, he might get Kurt Russell to play Snake. I mean shit, he WAS the inspiration for Solid Snake, and with Snake being an old man in MGS4, I'm sure anything is possible, story-wise.

Awesome, I hope it's not going to be an epic failure like some people here think. Since this is semi-"new" news I'm guessing a year before we get to hear anything more about this movie.
Is anyone hoping we'll get a Raiden in this movie? I do, I like him. And I wanna see more of Rose too because I don't think she'll be in "Guns of the Patriots".

How ya doing, buddy?

Depending on the length of the actual movie, I think it could turn out pretty ok. The theme is cinematically inspired and would probably do well, with some adjustments, on the big screen. Considering MGS2 was practically a movie(come on! quit the cut scenes and bring on the action!) it should be fairly easy to make a decent enough flick out of this concept.

Colonel Cambell? Hmmm...

This is gonna be a trainwreck. I can say that easily. There has yet to be a good VGM-based movie. It's an impossibility =( Even though Kojima seems to have his foot in the circle on this, I'm uneasy.

That Biehn/Snake picture is too awesome for words.

I would find it odd if any MGS game was adapted into a film, as I'm sure there are more cutscenes than actual gameplay. It's an exaggeration, I know, but you get my meaning.

I wouldn't want a flat-out adaptation of MGS. What I think could work is to combine some of the original Metal Gear and MGS. Put Outer Heaven in Alaska because the snow and cold visuals would work for the atmosphere of the film. Either keep the Big Boss plot twist and don't bring in Colonel Campbell, or make him the villain from the beginning. Say he went rogue with the other 'former' Fox-Hound members and keep Snake as a current Fox-Hound operative. Make it his first or second mission, or something. I'd keep the Rex design, but I wouldn't mind a redesign if it didn't suck. Keep the Gray Fox story, but include the ninja and have the revelation halfway into the movie or something.

Directors -- Maybe Doug Liman, because I was impressed by The Bourne Identity. J.J. Abrams is a possibility since he made Mission: Impossible 3 worth watching unlike the first two. Anybody but Boll, Bay, Woo, or Tony Scott please.

Writers -- Hell, ME if I had any say in this, but in seriousness, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of Alias fame.

Film score -- Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, or even Harry Gregson-Williams.

Cast -- I'll jump on the Hugh Jackman as Snake bandwagon. He's definitely suited to the role. If this were 1989 or something Kurt Russell and Michael Biehn would be at the top of my list. Viggo doesn't have the anti-hero quality, IMO.

Roy Campbell: Gene Hackman
Big Boss: Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, or maybe Brian Cox.
Otacon: Colin Hanks or Jake Gyllenhaal
Liquid Snake: Hackman in a dual-role? Sean Bean wasn't a bad choice, either. Maybe Daniel Craig?
Sniper Wolf: Insert random hot blonde starlet here.

I'm at a loss for other characters.
