Just a general question about PS2 Greatest Hits titles while on the subject but has anybody else experienced problems playing them on their PS2, preferbly the older models? See, the rental store had the GH version of God Of War and that was giving me nothing but "Disc Read Error" all the time unless I went through some ritual of constantly opening and closing the tray for 45 minutes to an hour to which the game would work....sometimes. So for this reason I picked up a new copy today but I'm getting the same bloody error message and problem. My other games and DVDs work fine though...
Well most of the time, Greatest Hits games are just the same as the regular version, except in different packaging, so I doubt the problem lies in GH games themselves. But for the record, I have an older PS2 (probably the oldest model), and quite a few GH games, and I never have problems with them. The only things I ever have problems with is DVDs on occasion.

your ps2 "laser" or "disk drive" is giving up (sorry I don't know the exact technical word)

I have the first model of the ps2 (got it at launch) and about 2 years ago it started to do the same thing. At first it was only one or two game that wouldn't work, but after some reset the game would play... 2 month later any game I was trying to play was giving me a disk error...I called sony and they repaired it for free (well I had to pay the S&H but that's all) to know that my ps2 was 5 years old and they still repaired it for free, you might try to call them and see what they can do. If they charge you, I think now you better just buy another one...

HEY GUYS YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT I BOUGHT

HAHA YES VIDEOGAMES.

I picked through EB's deep, scary 50% off bins of games. Really, big bins. Big bins of games. First time I've EVER SEEN a copy of Guilty Gear Isuka around here. EVER. I know it's fairly crappy (why am I pressing buttons to turn around even when I'm just facing one opponent oh my), but still. Same goes for the magic rarity of Puyo Pop Fever, Atari did a shithouse job distributing that back in 2003. NOW THEY'RE MINE. Pinball nerd couldn't resist picking up those two pinball games. Ultimate Pro is pretty good, just a port of the really old PC releases (Big Race and all that).

'Pinball' on PS2 (which is actually called 'Play It Pinball', they were just too lazy to put that on the cover. It's also called 'American Arcade' in Japan, true story) is horrible. I might try and return it today, because even for $4 it was a rip. It takes like TWO MINUTES to load each table, and they're as basic as you can get so I don't understand this wonder. Also yes I rebought Beyond Good and Evil. I'll actually play it this time! =)

Wario Ware's okay. I had a lot of fun playing through the stuff, and the guy who explains the forms is THE BEST buuuuut. Buuuut. I dunno, I don't feel the urge to play through the games again like I did with previous Wario Ware's. And the bonus games you unlock are pretty bland this time.

I hope this isn't the case. I mean I can put in any game or DVD aside from God Of War GSv and it'll work fine.

I guess I'll have to just look into that then and hope for the best.

Yeah, that's what I had to do too. Sometimes it's just certain scenes, but other times it's entire episodes (the worst part is that one of my favorite episodes of ER is one of the ones that won't work in my PS2). No matter how many times it has happened though, I could never see any effect on the system's ability to play PS2 games.

Yeah, So I was gonna do that Best Buy DKR + FFVIA + free $10 gift card deal, but that failed since they didn't stock them. I snuck onto one of their computers and they had 24 of each in stock, but they weren't on the floor or in the back (after telling an employee they should've had them out).

I couldn't leave empty-handed, of course, so I finally got Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (for $25 after redeeming some Reward Zone points). I'm loving it as I get my idiot on. I can't wait to play this with some friends and possibly take some pictures/videos of us losing our dignity. I've been playing it for the last hour. <3

Then I swung over to EB Games and got Trace Memory, Touch Detective, and (I couldn't resist) Diddy Kong Racing DS. I played a little of it and it's pretty fun. I haven't touched the other two yet though, but they're games I've been meaning to play as well. So, yeah, it's officially on like Diddy Kong now. I guess I'll make an effort to make this week's session actually happen...

Unfortunately, they didn't have any Final Fantasy VI Advance copies available, so I'll have to wait a bit for that. Works for me I guess as it gives me a few more days to finish up some other gaming. I'll try again later this week.

So I did that deal free $10 gift card deal, but I did it with two copies of DKR. Bsically, I bought my own copy with my own money, and I bought my sister's copy with her own money, and just reaped the benefits myself.

Also, since I was looking for some more EyeToy games to go with my last purchase, I figured I would check Target again. The only thing I could find was EyeToy: Play 2 with the camera for $12. So now I have two Eyetoys only though only one is needed to play the games. Yeah.

Woot! New games! Some decent, some questionable.

The Tower SP (GBA) - Don't ask. Seriously.

Final Fantasy VI Advance (GBA) - I've always wanted to play this one and actually beat it. I still have to get the fifth one. I should be enjoying this one.

Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS) - How is this game rare? T_T I see it everywhere I go, I just decided to pick it up now of all times.

How ya doing, buddy?

My order of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey Of The Cursed King arrived today. I've played a little over 3 hours and have been enjoying it a lot, fights are a little too frequent for my liking, but other than that I have no complaints.

Lumines for PSP. It's awesome. All of the reviews are right when they say it's a must have if you own a PSP. I've probably played it for about 2 hours, and it seems pretty hard (I can only get to level 12 in challenge mode, and my points record is 22 something thousand points), but I'm looking forward to getting better at it. And the music in it rules.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Maybe it was just sold out, then, since it's easy to find. I wonder if they're still ahving toruble locating a copy.

I know we're having trouble getting copies in our store. In fact, I don't think I've seen another copy come in since the game was released. We got so few to begin with, and if we've received another shipment of the game, it was also a meager supply.

Maybe it was only rare in Maryland. ;_; nutty had to travel a ways to find me my copy. Even now, I don't see the game in store shelves. Meh...

In game retrieval news, Ar Tonelico came in today. Good stuff.

Well, that's where I got the impression.

This game is too fucking short though. :|

I've seen copies of Squeak Squad (with the price sticker listing it as 'Geek' Squad, true story) in an import shop around here. Maybe we got America's supply. All three copies!

And all Kirby games are really short.

There's like, half a dozen or so at my Walmart and they haven't moved in ages. EB's got some too.

If it's that hard to find though I might have to bother just buying it. Hmm. Good to know.

I missed my bus after work today, so I went into EB Games to kill some time, found some cheap used games, and bought them. It seems to be the only way I buy games anymore.

First, I saw Wild Arms 3 for $7. I've never played a Wild Arms game before, but I liked the music from the series in BSC, so I decided I'd give this a shot.

Then while leafing through a bargain bin, I saw buried in the bottom Space Channel 5 Special Edition for the PS2, which is Space Channel 5 and Part 2 together. This was only $9. Grabbed it.

Then I noticed a sticker on the case of SC5 that said "Buy 1 Get 1 Free". I asked the cashier, and he said it was a promo that ended quite a while ago, but since they forgot to take the sticker off, he'd honor the buy 1 get 1 free deal... but I had to find another game with a sticker on it that fit into the deal. So I searched the whole store. The only other game with that sticker in the store was Trigger Man. Looks like shit, but it was a free game, so I took it. Of course, the first review I looked up online for this Trigger Man says that the game's bad, and not to take it even if you find it for free.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I really like Squeak Squad. It's on my to-buy list. I love games which use the top screen of the DS for gameplay, like it's meant to.

I'd go as far as saying it's the second best Kirby game, sitting of course under Superstar. Almost all Kirby games are shorter but I find them to be high quality, so I'm not fussy.
